  • This article is about a new law of railroad industry has come into effect in 2004 and that left the railroad company operated under the private system. Accordingly, it has to encounter a variety of managers on the railroad safety part too. Incheon Airport Railroad that was, from Incheon International Airport to Kimpo Airport, opened to traffic on the 23th March, 2007 as the first private railroad company in Korea. This railroad company is working hard to be a safe and convenient airport railroad. There is not operated an effective emergency response that the railroad company and the emergency response personnel without standard operation procedure, recently. The original emergency manual and the emergency procedure of the synthesized railroad safety development business. I am proposing to establish the emergency response scenario according to the different situations that the train operator.

Railroad Surface Defect Segmentation Using a Modified Fully Convolutional Network

  • This research aims to develop a deep learning-based method that automatically detects and segments the defects on railroad surfaces to reduce the cost of visual inspection of the railroad. We developed our segmentation model by modifying a fully convolutional network model [1], a well-known segmentation model used for machine learning, to detect and segment railroad surface defects. The data used in this research are images of the railroad surface with one or more defect regions. Railroad images were cropped to a suitable size, considering the long height and relatively narrow width of the images. They were also normalized based on the variance and mean of the data images. Using these images, the suggested model was trained to segment the defect regions. The proposed method showed promising results in the segmentation of defects. We consider that the proposed method can facilitate decision-making about railroad maintenance, and potentially be applied for other analyses.

  • 최근 실내공기질에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 실내공기질을 쾌적하게 유지하기 위한 다양한 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 기존에는 미세먼지와 부유미생물 등이 가장 중요한 오염물질이었으나, 최근에는 이산화탄소가 크게 각광받고 있다. 이산화탄소는 그 자체가 환기의 지표이기도 하지만, 최근의 저탄소 녹색성장 기조에 따라 환기에 의한 냉난방 에너지 비용을 절감하는 방안에 대한 관심도 크게 높아지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 제올라이트를 이용하여 실내공간의 이산화탄소를 제어하는 방안에 대하여 기술하였다. 소형 lab-scale의 이산화탄소 흡착성능 평가시스템을 제작하고, 이를 이용하여 제올라이트의 이산화탄소의 흡착성능을 알아보았다. 또한, 본 시스템의 실용화를 위해서는 이산화탄소가 흡착한 제올라이트의 재생이 필요한데, 이를 위하여 다양한 온도와 압력 등의 조건 하에서 이산화탄소의 탈착성능을 TSA/PSA를 이용하여 알아보았다. 흡착실험을 통하여 제올라이트를 이용한 실내공간용 이산화탄소의 저감 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나, 탈착실험 결과 2~5회 정도 열탈착 시킨 후에는 이산화탄소의 흡착 성능이 현저하게 감소하여, 이를 개선하기 위한 방안의 개발이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

  • Recently, the Korean government has been making efforts to achieve 'creative economy' based on science and technology. As part of these efforts, it has been promoted specific policies for innovation and performance enhancement of national R&D projects. They contains commercialization of research outcomes, technology transfer, technology based startup and support small and medium-sized businesses. The railroad transportation industry is a representative in the field of SOC and has own characteristics different from other industry areas. Especially, industry and market of railroad transportation are directly related to planning and implementation of government SOC policies. So in order to promoting commercialization of railroad transportation projects, it is very important to ensure consistency between government policies and R&D projects. In this paper, we investigate barriers of successful commercialization with typical researchers in the area of railroad transportation, and suggest problems and improvements of policy-based commercialization by giving specific examples.

  • In this study, on-line measuring system were developed to verify performances and characteristics of electric braking system that is used in KTX(Korea Train eXpress) synthetically and efficiently Because KTX is commercial vehicle, effective measurement and evaluation of measuring signals were performed beyond the range of change for equipment components. KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) described about running-braking measuring program, running-braking backup program and running-braking analysis program that were developed using a software called LabVIEW in this paper. Also, we analyzed the characteristics comparing experimental values with design values about braking distance, braking time, negative acceleration and braking effort in rheostatic braking and regenerative braking. In result, main performances and characteristics for electric braking system in KTX were verified.

  • In the earth structures of railways, large coarse granular materials are widely used as fill materials. However, experimental studies that consider the dynamic properties of these coarse granular materials have rarely been carried out in Korea due to the lack of a large scale test apparatus in this country. In this study, large scale cyclic triaxial tests were carried out for materials such as reinforced roadbed (subballast, graded crushed stone), transition zone gravel, and the upper subgrade of a railway. These specimens were prepared according to certain conditions (dry unit weight, grain size distribution, and so on) specified in the Korea railroad design standard. Based on these large triaxial test results, normalized shear modulus and damping ratio curves according to small strain level are suggested. A model and coefficients for each material are also proposed.

  • The railroad is one of the most popular means of transport. However, railroad agencies are managing the railroad information and provide its service respectively. That is, because of managing the different information and its type, the user will not receive the correct and integrated information. Thus, it is needed to employ methods for converting the various types of railroad information into the unified railroad information. In this study, we investigated how to (semi-)automatically convert railroad information in each agencies to standard railroad information. Railroad passengers can use the railroad information service at a time, at a glance and in one place. In addition, we believe that there can be provided the opportunity to create an new service, which will dramatically develop a railroad information service through these systematic and integrated railroad information management.

  • This study presents a AC electric railway system analysis using PSCAD/EMTDC for circuit analysis and fault studies. This PSCAD/EMTDC model includes feeder, contact line, rails. Scott-transformer. Auto-transformer and so on. This model is based on four-port network which is an extension of two-port network theory. In order to verify the proposed model, fault studies of a test system are performed.

  • 변압기는 판토그래프를 이용하여 가선으로부터 전력을 공급받아 전력변환장치, 견인전동기 등의 각종 장치에 필요한 전원을 공급해주는 중요한 역할을 한다. 또한 전장품에서 가장 무겁고 부피가 큰 변압기는 차량의 주행 속도에 큰 영향을 미치고 변압기를 설치할 수 있는 공간상의 제약이 따르므로 소형, 경량화가 매우 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 변압기의 오일온도와 외함온도의 변화를 확인하기 위해 차량에 취부된 변압기에 온도 센서를 부착하였다. 또한 한국형 고속전철이 운행하는 동안 변압기의 온도가 기준 온도를 넘어갈 경우 차량의 치명적인 고장을 일으킬 수 있으므로 차량 내에 상시 계측시스템을 설치하여 변압기의 온도를 실시간으로 감시하고 측정하였다. 이를 통해서 변압기의 온도 변화와 열적 특성을 분석할 수 있었다.

  • This study presents wrong hand calculations for fault analysis at field on the real AC railway system. Hence, we correctly revised the hand calculations. We propose AC railway system model by using EMTDC. Fault studies are performed. We also compare revised hand calculations with EMTDC simulation to verify the proposed model made by EMTDC. So, we can confirm that the model made by using EMTDC is correctly designed.
