This Study estimates the mean annual pricipitation of Korea. Precipitation data observed at the 60 Korea Meteorological Service stations during 84-year period(1905-1988) are used. Missing or unobserved values are estimated using regression analysis with principal componets, and the annual precipitation means obtatined by arithmetic, Thiessen and isobyetal methods are compared.
Effects of tungsten (W) on the precipitation kinetics of secondary phases and the associated resistance to pitting corrosion of 25%Cr duplex stainless steels were investigated through microstructural and electrochemical noise analyses. With the partial substitution of W for Mo in duplex stainless steel, the potential and current noises of the alloy were significantly decreased in chloride solution due to retardation of the ${\sigma}$ phase precipitation. The preferential precipitation of the $\chi$ phase in the W-containing alloy during the early period of aging contributed to retarding the precipitation of the $\sigma$ phase by depleting W and Mo along grain boundaries. In addition, the retardation of the nucleation and growth of the $\sigma$ phase in the W-containing alloy appears to be attributed to the inherently low diffusivity of W compared with that of Mo.

The behavior of oxygen precipitation was investigated in radial direction using Si wafers with different vacancy-related defects generation area. The behavior of oxygen precipitation in radial direction is strongly dependent on the size of vacancy rich area which is related with crystal growth condition. Oxygen precipitation rate is more enhanced in vacancy rich area than that of interstitial rich area. And anomalous oxygen precipitation is generated in the marginal bands of vacancy and interstial area. In V/I boundary, however, oxygen precipitation is suppressed to nearly perfect.

Stochastic weather generators are commonly used to simulate time series of daily weather, especially precipitation amount. Recently, a generalized linear model (GLM) has been proposed as a convenient approach to fitting these weather generators. In this paper, a stochastic weather generator is considered to model the time series of daily precipitation at Seoul in South Korea. As a covariate, global temperature is introduced to relate long-term temporal scale predictor to short-term temporal predictands. One of the limitations of stochastic weather generators is a marked tendency to underestimate the observed interannual variance of monthly, seasonal, or annual total precipitation. To reduce this phenomenon, we incorporate time series of seasonal total precipitation in the GLM weather generator as covariates. It is veri ed that the addition of these covariates does not distort the performance of the weather generator in other respects.
The impacts of climate change on soil moisture in sub - Arctic watershed simulated by using the hydrologic model. A range of arbitrary changes in temperature and precipitation are applied to the runoff model to study the sensitivity of soil moisture due to potential changes in precipitation and temperature. The sensitivity analysis indicates that changes in precipitation are always amplified in soil moisture with the amplification factor for flow. The change in precipitation has effect on the soil moisture in the catchment. The percentage change in soil moisture levels can be greater than the percentage change in precipitation. Compared to precipitation, temperature increases or decreases alone have impacts on the soil moisture. These results show the potential for climate change to bring about soil moisture that may require a significant planning response. They are also indicative of the fact that hydrological impacts affecting water supply may be important in consider-ing the cost and benefits of potential climate change.

The main objective of this study, "Spatial Downscaling of Precipitation from GCMs for Assessing Climate Change over Han River and Imjin River Watersheds", is to carry out over Han River and Imjin River watersheds. To this end, a statistical regression method with MOS (Model Output Statistics) corrections at every downscaling step was developed and applied for downscaling the spatially-coarse Global Climate Model Projections (GCMPs) from CCSM3 and CSIRO with respect to precipitation into 0.1 degree (about 11 km) spatial grid over study regions. The spatially archived hydro-climate data sets such as Willmott, GsMap and APHRODITE datasets were used for MOS corrections by means of monthly climatology between observations and downscaled values. Precipitation values downscaled in this study were validated against ground observations and then future climate simulation results on precipitation were evaluated for the projections.
This study determined appropriate threshold level (cumulative period and percentage) of precipitation for drought management in dam basin. The 5 dam basins were selected, the daily dam storage level and daily precipitation data were collected. MAP (Mean Areal Precipitation was calculated by using Thiessen polygon method, and MAP were converted to accumulated values for 6 cumulative periods (30-, 60-, 90-, 180-, 270-, and 360-day). The correlation coefficient and ratio of variation coefficient between storage level and MAP for 6 cumulative periods were used to determine the appropriate cumulative period. Correlation of cumulative precipitation below 90-day was low, and that of 270-day was high. Correlation was high when the past precipitation during the flood period was included within the cumulative period. The ratio of variation coefficient was higher for the shorter cumulative period and lower for the longer in all dam, and that of 270-day precipitation was closed to 1.0 in every month. ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics) analysis with TLWSA (Threshold Line of Water Supply Adjustment) was used to determine the percentage of precipitation shortages. It is showed that the percentage of 270-day cumulative precipitation on Boryung dam and other 4-dam were less than 90% and 80% as threshold level respectively, when the storage was below the attention level. The relationship between storage and percentage of dam outflow and precipitation were analyzed to evaluate the impact of artificial dam operations on drought analysis, and the magnitude of dam outflow caused uncertainty in the analysis between precipitation and storage data. It is concluded that threshold level should be considered for dam drought analysis using based on precipitation.

Cloud seeding has not been used now to regulate water supplies in Korea and this results in losses to economy. The fastest experiments on precipitation enhancement in the world show that there are real possibilities to increase precipitation by 10-20%. Investigations of economic losses due to the lack of routine cloud seeding experiments in Korea have shown that they exceed about 100 million US dollars In 1999. Recommendations on cloud seeding activities including works on precipitation augmentation and prevention of heavy rains are presented. Spatial and temporal necessity to carry out this or that work is discussed.

The extreme 2017 spring drought affected a large portion of central and western South Korea, and was one of the most climatologically driest spring seasons over the 1961-2016 period of record. This drought was characterized by exceptionally low precipitation, with total precipitation from January to June being 50% lower than the mean normal precipitation (1981-2010) over most of western South Korea. In this study, for the quantitative drought impact analysis, the widely-used Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and the statistical drought frequency are compared with observed meteorological characteristics and anomalies. According to the drought frequency analysis of monthly cumulative precipitation during January and May in 2017, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, and Jeollanam-do areas showed more than drought frequency over 100 years. Gyeongsangnam-do area showed more than drought frequency over 200 years based on annual precipitation in 2017. The South Korean government (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC)) have been operating a government-level drought monitoring system since 2016. Results from this study can be used to improve the drought monitoring applications of future drought events, as well as drought planning and preparedness in South Korea.

The selective sulphide precipitation of copper from sulphate solution containing nickel and cobalt was studied with adding $Na_{2}S$ solution. Precipitation efficiency of copper increased with raising pH of solution and increasing the amount of $Na_{2}S$ added and lowing its concentration. The increase in reaction time and temperature also improved the precipitation of copper. However, attempts to selectively precipitate copper met with limited success because of co-precipitation of nickel and cobalt. With adding $20\%$$Na_{2}S$, 3 times equivalent of Cu, at pH 1.0 of solution, $25^{\circ}C$ and 30 minutes of reaction time, precipitation efficiencies of copper, nickel and cobalt were $94.1\%$, $4.3\%$ and $4.5\%$ respectively.
