This study proposes a Natural Language Query Framework (NLQF) for the semantic web. It supports an intelligent inference at a semantic level. Most of previous researches focused on the knowledge representation on the semantic web. However, to revitalize the intelligent e-business on the semantic web, there is a need for semantic level inference to the web information. To satisfy the need, we will review the knowledge/resource representation on the semantic web such as RDF, Ontology and Conceptual Graph (CG), and then discuss about the natural language (NL) inference. The result of this research could support a natural interface for the semantic web. Furthermore, we expect that the NLQF can be used in the semantic web-based business communications.

This paper presents a method to select contingency ranking considering voltage security problems in power systems. Direct method which needs not the detailed knowledge of the post contingency voltage at each bus is used. Based on system operator's experience and knowledge, the membership functions for the MVAR mismatch and allowable voltage violation are justified describing linguistic representation with heuristic rules. Rule base is used for the computation of severity index for each contingency by fuzzy inference. Contingency ranking harmful to the system is formed by the index for security evaluation. Compared with 1P-1Q iteration, this algorithm using direct method and fuzzy inference shows higher computation speed and almost the same accuracy. The proposed method is applied to model system and KEPCO pratical system which consists of 311 buses and 609 lines to show its effectiveness.
Virtual reality (VR) simulators have been extended to transfer knowledge and education, and demands for exhibition systems for science education and cultural experiences has also increased. Existing VR simulators, which are based on the dynamics equations of motion, cannot easily be adapted to changes in simulation contents. In order to effectively transfer knowledge and maintain interests through educational applications, an experiential system that has multi-sensory effects as well as motion effects is required. In this study, we designed and implemented a motion generation that is tailored to experiential exhibition systems and multi-sensory VR effects. Both the sense of motion which is generated from the movement of the viewpoint of the visual image, and motion effects which are constructed in advance, are applied to motion simulation. Motion effects which occur during interaction between the user and the exhibition system can be easily added. Various sensory cues that are appropriate to the exhibition system are also considered.
In this study, we will employ a multi-agent for the search and extraction of data in a distributed environment. We will use an Integrator Agent in the proposed model on the Hierarchical Clustering and Association Rule Discovery(HCARD). The HCARD will address the inadequacy of other data mining tools in processing performance and efficiency when use for knowledge discovery. The Integrator Agent was developed based on CORBA architecture for search and extraction of data from heterogeneous servers in the distributed environment. Our experiment shows that the HCARD generated essential association rules which can be practically explained for decision making purposes. Shorter processing time had been noted in computing for clusters using the HCARD and implying ideal processing period than computing the rules without HCARD.

This paper makes a trial to build the model of car-following in the state of starting to stable driving on the basic of driver's knowledge that is easily characterized by linguistical cognition. There are three main steps in building the model. Firstly, each driver's rule of three testees is studied in linguistical experssion by the interview and questionary surveys that are repeated once a day for ten days. Secondly, quantification of the linguistical expression is investigated by driving experiments that includes the questionary survey to the testee in the test vehicle, and the membership functions of variables of rule are obtained. Thirdly, implicaton and composition of fuzzy inference is made by Max-Min Methods and defuzzification by gravity method. It can be said that the proposed model of car-following based on driver's knowledge is practically allpicable to the estimation of drivering of car-following on trunk roads in urban area.
This paper presents an approach to feeder reconfiguration in order to achieve an efficient operation of distribution systems utilizing knowledge base. The optimal feeder reconfiguration in this study eliminates various abnormal states which will create feeder overloads and feeder constraint problems. and will also accomplish minimum power loss of the distribution systems under normal operating condition by means of branch exchanges to change the status of sectionalizing switches with experiences of the experts. For an effective implementation of feeder reconfiguration, a best-first tree searching strategy based on heuristics is employed to evaluate the various alternatives of load transfer. The heuristic exchange of branches results in reduction of the search space as a means of implementing the best-first searching strategy.

In 2010, Sebe et al. proposed an efficient and lightweight mixnet scheme for remote voting systems. The scheme based on a cryptographic secure hash function, does not require complex and costly zero-knowledge proofs of their correct mixing operations, thus they claimed that their scheme is simple and efficient. In this paper, we propose more efficient and fast mixnet scheme than Sebe et al.'s scheme under the same assumption.

One of the most frequent uses of Internet is data gathering. Data can be about many themes but perhaps one of the most demanded fields is the tourist information. Normally, databases that support these systems are maintained manually. However, there is other approach, that is, to extract data automatically, for instance, from textual public information existing in the Web. This approach consists of extracting data from textual sources(public or not) and to serve them totally or partially to the user in the form that he/she wants. The obtained data can maintain automatically databases that support different systems as WAP mobile telephones, or commercial systems accessed by Natural Language Interfaces and others. This process has three main actors. The first is the information itself that is present in a particular context. The second is the information supplier (extracting data from the existing information) and the third is the user or information searcher. This added value chain reuse and give value to existing data even in the case that these data were not tough for the last use by the use of the described technology. The main advantage of this approach is that it makes independent the information source from the information user. This means that the original information belongs to a particular context, not necessarily the context of the user. This paper will describe the application based on this approach developed by the authors in the FLEX EXPRIT IV n$^{\circ}$EP29158 in the Work-package "Knowledge Extraction & Data mining"where the information captured from digital newspapers is extracted and reused in tourist information context.
A successful, computer-aided design support system can help a process designer focus on making effective design decisions, not merely tedious routine calculations. Such a system is essential to enhance quality of design in terms of economics, environmental benignity, reliability, robustness, and operability. Such a statement is even more accepted when applied to conceptual design problems, where gross design specifications are given while a combinatorial number of design alternatives exists. This paper presents an agent-based approach as a systematic and efficient way to design a design support system for the synthesis of conceptual chemical processes. An agent-based approach allows us to handle design knowledge as an object and thus greatly improve the modularity and reusability of that knowledge. Such modularity and reusability lead to the increased productivity in the development of a design support system and the increased ease in the relaxation of design decisions and the generation of design alternatives, both of which functions are critically important in dealing with the complexity and uncertainty of conceptual design problems.
The purpose of this study is to propose a facility layout design algorithm based on artificial intelligence concept, and then to develop a computer program which is more practical than any other conventional facility layout design systems. The algorithm is composed of five step layout procedures; knowledge and data input, knowledge interpretation, priority determination, inference of layout design, and evaluation, In the step of priority determination, the algorithm is divided into single row and multi row layout problem. In the step of inference of layout design, alternatives are generated by constraints-directed reasoning and depth first search method based on artificial intelligence concept. Alternatives are evaluated by the moving cost and relationship value by interactive man-machine interface in the step of evaluation. As a case study, analytical considerations over conventional programs such as CRAFT and CORELAP was investigated and compared with algorithm propsed in this study. The proposed algorithm in this study will give useful practical tool for layout planner. The computer progran was written in C language for IBM PC-AT.
