Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between oral health professionals' knowledge, attitude, and practice with regard to infectious waste management and to identify related factors influencing it. Methods: The study comprised of 219 oral health professionals from select dental clinics and public health centers recruited between August 25, 2016 and September 5, 2016, who agreed to participate in the study with full understanding of the study objectives. A self-reported questionnaire was administered, which consisted of 22 items on knowledge of infectious waste management, 9 items on attitude, and 16 items on practice. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analyses. Results: The age, knowledge, and clinical attitude of oral health professionals significantly correlated with waste management practice. Specifically, infectious waste management practice improved with increasing age, a greater level of knowledge, and a more positive clinical attitude. Additionally, the standardized regression coefficient demonstrated that, of these three factors, clinical attitude more strongly correlated with effective waste management practice, followed by age and level of knowledge. Conclusions: These results indicated that oral health professionals had a low level of knowledge regarding infectious waste management, and a more positive clinical attitude resulted in better practices. Therefore, the development of detailed and active education guidelines and strategies are needed to enhance the attitude, knowledge, and practice of oral health professionals with regard to infectious waste management.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess knowledge, attitude, correct metered dose inhaler (MDI) use and compliance with self management among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: The participants of this study consisted of 109 COPD patients who were outpatients in C and K hospital located in G city from March 1 to September 30th, 2010. Data were measured using self-administered questionnaires and observational checklist. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program that included mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Sheffe test, and Pearson's correlation. Results: There were significant relationships between knowledge and attitude (r=.33, $p$ <.001), between knowledge and correct MDI use (r=.37, $p$ <.001), and between knowledge and self-management compliance (r=.28, $p$=.003). There was significant relationship between attitude and self-management compliance (r=.33. $p$ <.001). In contrast, attitude was not significantly related to correct MDI use. Conclusion: The study showed that COPD knowledge and attitude of patients were related compliance in managing their disease. Therefore, strategies need to be utilized in education programs which would improve knowledge and subsequently improve attitude and compliance.
This study was carried out to investigate fast food consumption patterns, nutrition knowledge, dietary attitude of middle and high school students in Busan. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 562 students from April 8 to April 22 in 2006. The results are summarized as follows. Convenience to eat is the best motive for visiting fast food restaurants. Nutrition knowledge scores of middle school male students were lower than those of the other groups. The more nutrition knowledge female students have, the lower fast food consumption became. There was no significant difference in nutrition knowledge and fast food consumption in male students. There was a significantly positive correlation between education levels of their parents and dietary attitude of the subjects(p<0.01). Pocket money showed a significantly negative correlation with dietary attitude and with fast food use frequency(p<0.05). There was a significantly positive correlation between nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude of the subjects. The use frequency of fast food showed a negative correlation with dietary attitude(p<0.01) and nutrition knowledge(p<0.05) of the subjects. Therefore, proper nutrition education is required to improve their nutritional status and dietary attitude.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the knowledge and attitude about organ donation and organ transplantation among the organ donation candidates. Methods: The subjects were 91 candidates who are enrolled in organ transplantation center in general hospitals for organ donation or transplantation. The knowledge and attitude instruments about organ donation and transplantation by Matten, et al. (1991) were utilized. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 14.0: descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score of knowledge was relatively low ($9.61{\pm}3.47$, out of 21.0). The mean score of attitude was relatively high ($4.24{\pm}0.97$, of max score 5). There was significant difference (p<.05) in knowledge according to academic career, registered period as a candidate, the intention to participate in an organ donation education. There was significant difference (p<.05) in attitude according to occupation, family's consent, and recommendation to family. The relationship between knowledge and attitude was not stylistically significant (r=.043, p=.683). Conclusion: These findings suggest that nurses should develop educational programs to increase knowledge and positive attitude toward the organ donation and transplantation.

This is a quasi-experimental study with one-group pretest-posttest design to investigate the effect of dementia club activities on college life satisfaction, dementia knowledge, and dementia attitude in nursing students. The subjects were 26 nursing students who participated in club activities for more than three hours per a week. The college life satisfaction was measured using School Life Satisfaction Scale and dementia knowledge was measuring using Questionnaire for Awareness of Dementia used in dementia prevalence survey. Dementia Attitude Scale (DAS) was used to measure dementia attitude. The tests were performed before and after club activity, and collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. The results showed that the scores of college life satisfaction (t=-2.38, p= .025), dementia knowledge (t=-5.56, p< .001), dementia attitude social comfort that evaluate emotion, behavior, and awareness about dementia (t=-4.50, p< .001), dementia attitude dementia knowledge (t=-2.59, p= .016), and dementia attitude total score (t=-4.20, p< .001) increased statistically significantly after club activity. It is concluded, based on the results, that the club activities in college improve college life satisfaction, dementia knowledge, and dementia attitude thus provide contribute to caring for patients with dementia. The replication studies with larger random samples, however, are necessary to confirm the findings obtained from this study.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the knowledge, attitude, and preventive health behavior of cancer in middle-aged men and to provide data for education program regarding cancer prevention. Methods: This study was a descriptive research using a questionnaire, which included 20 items for knowledge, 10 items for attitude, and 18 items for preventive health behavior of cancer. Data were collected from 140 middle-aged men. Descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used with SPSS/WIN 18.0 to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for knowledge of cancer was 11.58 (range 0~20), for attitude, 37.52 (range 5~50), and for preventive health behavior of cancer, 58.85 (range 18~90). Preventive health behavior of cancer showed a significantly positive correlation with knowledge (r=.27, p=.001) and attitude (r=.31, p<.001) toward cancer. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, knowledge and attitude toward cancer were significant factors affecting preventive health behavior of cancer. Those variables explained 12.5% of cancer preventive behavior. Conclusion: In order to develop a cancer prevention education program for middle-aged men, accurate knowledge and improving attitude should be considered. Furthermore, it is necessary to do further study with a larger random sample according to lifespan.
The purpose of this survey was to study nutrition knowledge dietary attitude purpose value of meal and monthly food expenditure in the house wives. The survey was conducted from September 1 to October 20 in 1998. The results were summarized as follows. Nutrition knowledge of the 30s and 40s group were higher than that of the other group. Dietary attitude of the 20s group was lower than that of the other wives. House wives tended to choose food for the pleasure of its taste and intake of nutrients. There was a significant positive correlation between nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude. The diet-ary attitude and nutrition knowledge were significant positive correlations with food diversity. There was negative correlation between age and nutrition knowledge.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine tuberculosis-related knowledge, attitude and preventive behaviors of middle school students and to investigate socio-demographic and health-related factors. Methods: 198 male and 188 female middle school students in M city were recruited for the survey. Independent sample t-test, One-way ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}^{\prime}s$ test and Pearson's correlation were performed to examine factors associated with tuberculosis-related knowledge, attitude and preventive behaviors. Results: The percentage of correct answers to questions testing tuberculosis-related knowledge was very low, 33%. The mean scores of attitude and preventive behaviors were 3.02 and 2.90 out of 4 (highest score), respectively. Middle school students who had experiences of health education or tuberculosis-related education showed significantly higher scores than their counterparts in all factors - knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors. Parental education, academic achievement, smoking, sleeping time, infectious disease education, and source of tuberculosis information were associated with knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors. Knowledge about tuberculosis had a positive correlation with attitude and preventive behaviors. Conclusion: The level of tuberculosis-related knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors was very low among middle school students. In addition, school health education was highly related to a higher level of knowledge, attitude, and preventive behaviors regarding tuberculosis. Therefore, to intensify students' preventive behaviors against tuberculosis and other infection diseases, sustainable school health education should be provided for middle school students who are at risk of developing tuberculosis.
The purpose of this study is to measure the home helpers' knowledge about facts on aging and attitude toward the elderly in Korea, and to find out the variables that may influence their attitude. Four hundred and thirty eight home helpers working in a home help agency were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge about aging and Yoon (1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 59.1%, which was lower than nurses' level (65.0%) and social workers' level (65.3%). And the paid home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 61.2%, which was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' level (57.0%). (2) Using 5 points scale, mean of home helpers' attitude toward the elderly was 2.56 (51.2%), which was different from nurses' attitude (40.6%) and social workers' attitude (62.0%). And the paid home helpers' attitude toward the elderly's action (29.9%) was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' attitude (32.6%). (3) Using multiple regression analysis, the home helpers' levels of knowledge about aging was the most significant predictor to explain the home helpers' attitude toward the elderly. The other variables that are also statistically significant predictors of the home helpers' attitude were sex, voluntary experience for the elderly, age, city size, and personal experience with the elderly. Especially the significant predictors to explain the paid home helpers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging and city size. On the other hand, the significant predictors to explain the unpaid home helpers' attitude were sex and age. Based on the research results, implications for practice and future research are discussed, and education methods for making home helpers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also suggested.
The objectives of this study were; (1)to determine if socio-demographic variables influence energy conservation attitude, energy conservation knowledge, energy conservation behavior of consumer, (2) to determine if energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge influence energy conservation behavior of consumer, (3) to examine the causal relationships among variables which influence energy conservation behavior of consumer. The model for this study included following variables; (1) socio-demographic variables, which are the independent variables; (2) energy conservation behavior of consumer, which is a dependent variable; (3) energy conservation attitude of consumer, which is an intervening variable ;(4) energy conservation knowledge of consumer, which is an intervening variable. The data used in this study included 502 homemakers living in Seoul. Statistics used for data analysis were ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation and Path Analysis. The major findings were follows; (1) Energy conservation attitude and energy conservation behavior difference significantly according to the level of family income among socio-demographic variables such a age, educational level and family income. Energy conservation knowledge differenced significantly educational level, and family income. Energy conservation knowledge difference significantly educational level. (2) Energy conservation behavior differed significantly according to energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge. (3) Energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge had positive effects on energy conservation behavior directly and indirectly. (4) Family income had negative effects on energy conservation behavior directly and indirectly through energy conservation attitude. Education had positive effect on energy conservation behavior indirectly through energy conservation knowledge.
