  • This study aimed to investigate the actual smoking status, knowledge of oral health related to smoking, and attitude toward smoking cessation in 161 health students of the University in Jeonnam. This was done to examine the role of smoking cessation guidance as health care professionals after graduation. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 18.0. The significance level was α=0.05. Of those surveyed, 33.3% had previously smoked, and 30.4% were current smokers. The high school period had the highest smoking rate, at 59.2%. A daily smoking rate of 20 or more cigarettes was the highest at 30.4%. Of the respondents, 68.3% had received smoking cessation, while 10.6% said that they were encouraged by others to quit, such as friends. As a result of a correlation analysis between major satisfaction, smoking-related oral health knowledge, and attitudes toward smoking cessation, major satisfaction showed a negative correlation(r=-.394, -.337*) with smoking-related oral health knowledge and attitude towards smoking cessation. Smoking-related oral health knowledge showed a positive correlation(r=.546**) with attitude towards smoking cessation. As a result of a regression analysis, the knowledge of oral health related to smoking was the primary variable that affected the attitude towards smoking cessation(t=6.799, p<0.001). Based on these results, it is suggested that education on smoking cessation and the risk of smoking is delivered so that health care workers can be better prepared and educated for their future roles.

  • Background: This study was conducted to determine knowledge, attitudes and practices about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination of students studying in various faculties of Erciyes University. Materials and Methods: The study was performed among the first and fourth grade students of Medicine, Theology, Education and Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) faculties of Erciyes University. It was aimed to reach 1,073 students and 718 were evaluated. A questionnaire consisting of 48 questions related to the socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitude and practices about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination was administered to the students. The chi-square test and logistic regression were used for the statistical analyses. Results: Of the students, 78.3% were aware of cervical cancer, while 36.1% of them were aware of the HPV vaccine. The percentage hearing about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination was significantly higher among the students of the medical faculty than the others and among fourth grade students comparing with the first grade. The marital status and the presence of a health worker in the family had no significant impact on the knowledge level of the students. The acceptability of the HPV vaccination was low among all students. Conclusions: The knowledge levels of the university students about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination are inadequate. This deficiency is more pronounced among the non-medical students and there is no significant increase during the faculty years. Non-medical students must be provided with information about important public health issues by elective courses. HPV vaccination could provide many benefits for men and women by decreasing the morbidity and mortality of cervical, anal, and penile cancers.

  • In order to enhance the national competitiveness of the korean knowledge economy it is necessary to establish new, cooperative industrial relations. In the past mass production economy the technological innovations generally substitute the real assets for the labour so that the interest conflict between employers and employees was inherent and the resistance of the labourers to innovations was unavoidable. In the knowledge economy, however, the real assets and the labour are complementary to each other and the investments in skills and education bring increasing returns. These are the most important reasons for the common interest of employers and employees in improved skills and advanced education. In the knowledge economy, therefore, establishing and maintaining the cooperative industrial relations is a necessary condition to maximize the value creation, where in Korea the 'Tripartite Commission' can and has to play a active role.

  • This study discusses how to protect foreign knowledge workers from disasters conceptually. While their prestigious social and economic status, the knowledge workers can become vulnerable to disasters due to their nomadic lifestyle and voluntary isolation from communities where they reside temporarily. This study introduced and discussed strengths and weaknesses of various types of disaster communication networks and found the Small World Network (SWN) and the use of structural holes would be an appropriate strategy for the protection of knowledge workers. The use of mediators for disaster communication would be a strategic intervention from public and private organizations since that addresses voluntary isolation issue without restructuring existing disaster communication network.

  • This study was a quasi-experimental research of a non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design for analyzing the effects of fire safety education on care worker trainees. The subjects of the study were care worker trainees of the S Care Worker Institution: 57 trainees with 28 in the experimental group, and 29 in the control group. The research period was from May 21 to June 14, 2018 and the experiments focusing on fire safety education were performed once per week for a total of four times over the research period. The data were then analyzed using a ${\chi}^2-test$ and t-test. The results showed that fire safety education is an effective source of education for increasing the knowledge on fire safety, attitudes towards fire safety, perceived behavioral control on fire safety, behavioral intention on fire safety, and fire safety behavior in addition to being incredibly useful in practicing fire safety behaviors throughout their daily lives. On the other hand, the subjective norms on fire safety did not show any significant differences. Therefore, this paper suggests a follow-up study that should focus on analyzing the effects of the subjective norms on fire safety.
