기술혁신을 위한 외부지식 탐색 전략 : 소기업 vs 중기업 (External Knowledge Search Strategy and Technological Innovation : Small vs Medium Firms)

  • 본 연구는 소기업과 중기업의 서로 다른 외부지식 탐색 전략이 기술혁신에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 특히 우리나라의 소기업과 중기업을 비교하는 연구가 없었기 때문에, 본 연구에서는 2010년 "한국기술혁신조사" 자료를 활용하여 분석을 하였다. 그 결과, 먼저 소기업의 경우에는 기업 내에 보유하고 있는 자원과 역량이 매우 부족하므로 다양한 원천으로부터 외부 탐색의 폭을 넓히는 전략(external search breadth)이 기술혁신을 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 중기업의 경우에는 외부 지식을 공급하는 주체와의 보다 장기적이고 긴밀한 관계를 추구하는 전략(external search depth)이 기술혁신을 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 기존에 하나의 그룹으로 묶어 분석했던 중소기업의 혁신활동을 보다 세분화하여 소기업과 중기업의 관점에서 보아야 한다는 점을 강조한다. 또한 더 나아가 벤처기업을 포함한 신생기업들이 소기업 단계에서는 지식의 다양성을 추구하는 전략이 효과적이며, 점차 성장해 가며 중기업 단계에 들어서면 특화된 지식에 보다 집중하는 전략이 효과적일 것이라는 것을 시사한다.

  • Owing to the current economic downturn, one of the most important goals of the organizations who are actively involved in Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) is the cost efficiency. We focus on supplier firm's domain understanding to make the cost efficiency; therefore, we examine how the disadvantages from lower domain knowledges affect outsourcing performance moderated by outsourcing ratio and knowledge change environments. That is, if clients can endure disadvantage from service providers' lower domain knowledge, they can achieve cost efficiency by choosing lower domain knowledge suppliers with less expensive cost. To examine performance gap depending on the environments, we applied 'A Learning Model of IT Outsourcing' which is suggested by previous literature. As a result, we suggest five strategies for clients to contract with suppliers which have lower domain knowledge: (1) Prepare the strategy to endure disadvantages from the early stage. (2) Make the strategy depending on outsourcing ratio. (3) Knowledge transfer between organizations is important. (4) Make a short-term contract if they do not have good environments for organizational learning. (5) Client's knowledge change environments are more important than those of supplier's. Finally, we offer various implications for clients and suppliers in IT outsourcing.

인적자본은 언제 기업의 혁신성과를 향상시킬 수 있는가?: 국제화 경험의 조절효과를 중심으로 (When Does Human Capital Facilitate the Corporate Innovation Performance?: The Moderating Effect of International Experience)

  • Purpose - This study investigates the relationship between firm-specific, general human capital and corporate innovation performance. Also, we examine when this relationship is more salient. Design/methodology/approach - We collected 1,195 survey data related to a sample of corporate innovation performance and human capital from 1) Korea Research for Vocational Education and Training and 2) NICE information service in Korea. In order to examine the corporate innovation performance, we use the ordered logit model. Findings - First, we find robust supports for our hypothesis that firm-specific and general human capital increase corporate innovation performance. Second, the effect of general human capital on corporate innovation performance is stronger when this relationship is combined with the firm international experience. Research implications or Originality - By integrating the human capital theory and corporate innovation literature, we propose that firm-specific and general human capital are the important determinant of innovation performance. The firm-specific human capital may increase innovation efficiencies. Also, retaining higher-quality general human capital is considered as an important innovation strategy since firms with higher-quality general human capital make greater innovation performance. Further, we show that the firm international experience is the crucial boundary condition. As a firm's experience in internationalization increases, firms can enhance the opportunities to develop new products by combining the skills and knowledge derived from general human capital with the experience gained through internationalization.

지식기반서비스 산업 기업연구소 인정제도 도입을 위한 업종선정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Selection of Service Business for Introduction of R&D Center Accreditation System for Knowledge Based Service Firm)

  • 제조업 중심으로 성장해온 우리나라의 산업은 개도국의 추격, 선진국의 견제 등으로 인한 기술경쟁의 심화 때문에 고용창출과 성장잠재력의 둔화가 발생하고 있는 상황이다. 주요 선진국은 이미 고부가 지식기반서비스업 중심의 산업구조 변화를 통해 산업 경쟁력을 확보하여 경제 성장을 지속하고 있으며, 우리 정부도 지식기반서비스 산업 선진화를 위한 관련 산업 육성, R&D 활성화 등 다양한 정책을 제시하고 있다. 정부는 현재 민간 부문의 R&D 활성화를 위한 방안으로서 지식기반서비스 산업에 대한 기업연구소 인정제도 도입을 추진하고 있지만, 연구소 인정을 위한 업종의 범위와 요건이 아직까지 제조업을 중심으로 설정되어 있어 지원 범위 및 요건에 대한 수정이 필요한 상황이다. 기존 기업연구소 인정제도는 지원 대상의 선정에 있어 기업의 '연구개발활동' 여부를 기준으로 제도를 운영해 왔으나, 서비스 분야는 연구개발활동과 영업활동과의 구분이 모호하여 연구개발활동 여부를 기준으로 할 경우 지원 대상의 범위가 지나치게 확대될 가능성이 있다. 따라서 주요 서비스 업종을 선정하고 선정된 업종을 중심으로 제도를 운영하는 것이 현실적이며, 이를 위해서는 주요 업종 선정을 위한 기준 및 논리의 확보가 필요하다. 주요 업종의 선정에 있어서 우리나라의 산업구조와 서비스업의 현황을 고려하여야 한다. 제조업 의존도가 높은 국내 산업 구조와 서비스업의 취약한 경쟁력을 감안했을 때 제조업과 서비스업의 동반 성장 및 서비스업의 고부가가치화를 중요 기준으로 고려할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 지식기반서비스 분야 기업연구소 인정제도 도입을 위한 업종의 범위 및 요건 설정 기준에 관한 연구를 수행한다. 범위의 설정을 위해 개별 서비스 업종에 대하여 생산유발계수 및 부가가치유발계수를 도출하여 경제적 파급효과를 분석하고, 업종별로 연구개발활동 및 자원투입역량을 분석함으로써 서비스산업을 유형화 하였다. 분석결과를 바탕으로 지식기반서비스 산업 기업연구소 인정을 위한 대상 업종 선정방안을 제시하였으며, 기업연구소 인정제도 도입을 위한 인적 물적 요건에 관한 개선 방안을 함께 제시하였다.

e-비즈니스의 유통기업 성장성 및 수익성 기여 효과분석 (The Effect of E-Business on Firm's Growth and Profitability in the Distribution Industry)

  • Purpose - This research aims to examine the effect of e-business adoption on firm's growth and profitability in the distribution industry. The value added from the distribution industry acts as the cost of other industries. As the distribution industry develops, its stage becomes shorter and the distribution margin becomes smaller. Therefore, e-business is expected to have a different effect on the distribution industry than other industries. Research design, data and methodology - The previous research generally used e-business adoption as an independent variable and firm's performance as a dependent variable. This study elaborated the model using a dynamic panel model that includes the performance variable of the previous year as an independent variable. By employing system GMM (Generalized Method of Moments), the endogeneity problem in the dynamic panel model can be solved. For the analysis, I extracted the distribution companies as the raw data in the National Statistical Office's Business Activity Survey over the period 2006 to 2012. Results - The growth rate of firms adopting e-business was 0.299%p higher than that of the non-adopter. However, only ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), KMS (Knowledge Management System) and SCM (Supply Chain Management) contributed positively to the growth rate. In the case of profitability, it was 0.04%p higher than the distribution companies that did not adopt e-business. ERP and LMS (Learning Management System) improve profitability, while SCM reduces profitability. Consequently, while ERP improves both growth and profitability, SCM improves growth but reduces profitability. In addition, KMS improves firm's growth only, and LMS does only profitability, showing that each e-business has a differentiated effect. Conclusions - Since the distribution industry has different characteristics from manufacturing and other service industries, the introduction of e-business may not guarantee the growth and profitability of distribution companies. Careful introduction considering the characteristics of the distribution industry is required. In particular, it is necessary to select an e-business meeting the characteristics and needs of a distribution company, and thereafter, it is required for the company's own efforts to internalize it within the system.

  • All Korean professional engineer′s great joy Is to welcome the Japanese professional engineers and relevant guests to the 1987 Japan-Korea Professional Engineers Joint Convention organized by the Korean Professional Engineers Association. As there exists an effort of blood, sweat and tear behind a succeeded theatrical stage, so an exquisite devotion with drawing up a master plan, investigation, supervision and etc by engineering firms is soaked through every part of huge construction projects and large unit factory buildings. It is over 14 years that the Engineering Service Promotion Law has been enacted by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In the meantime, the domestic engineering (engineering service) have reached a remarkable higher level while the number of engineering firms participating in overseas market has gradually been increasing. From a small scale of under water investigation to a large scale planning of atomic reactor or petrochemical plant, engineering service business can be said "The Software of Total Industry." Engineering service is what is called a higher business which offers specialized engineering know-how and experience. Engineering service compaines offer Its specialized knowledge and experience to government, industry and commerce. Whether the task is to modernize plant equipment, to design a building or to manage construction, an engineering company will develop and implement the most appropriate and cost effective solution. Clients use the engineering service of firm knowing that the engineer′s professional judgement is not influenced or biased by other commercial affiliations. While benefiting from the diverse experience that professional engineers can apply to a specific problem, government and industry also reduce the need for permanent in-house engineering staff. Engineering firms may be specialized or multi-disciplinary.

지식경영을 활용한 기업인수 후 합병후 통합(PMI) : 한일은행과 상업은행의 합병 사례를 중심으로 (PMI Using Knowledge Management Viewed from Merger of Hanil Bank and Commercial Bank of Korea)

  • The purpose of this study lies in examining how knowledge management was applied to PMI(Post Merger Integration) in bank merger. Individuals and organizations in Korea have experienced a lot of changes since the 1997 foreign exchange crisis. In such a situation, individuals came to think the only thing to rely on was personal knowledge. Since organizations had to lay off workers in order of their birth year, not based on whether or not individuals had the knowledge necessary for the organizations, they needed to have such a system that could use their explicit knowledge and even outside knowledge or customers' knowledge as IT developed by changing individuals' tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge as needed in order to continue to maintain their competitiveness and for their own development. Thus, each firm started to pitch for the introduction of knowledge management. Individuals started to store their own experience and knowledge in their homepages or blogs. It was Woori Bank, the merged bank of Hanil Bank and Commercial Bank of Korea, that introduced the knowledge management system and Shared Service Center, in which knowledge creation is available, for the first time in the banking business. Its previous name was Hanbit Bank. Hanbit Bank wanted to construct an advanced bank system, bringing in their chief information officer(CIO) from a foreign bank and introducing an IT software used in Spanish banks to adjust all banking processes to it. However, they could not help giving up the plan in the middle of the road since there was a great difference between Spain and Korea in the financial system and more than 30% of software package had to be changed. In this situation, PMI was delayed, and customer inconvenience continued, which made the integration of organizational cultures slow down. As a breakthrough in this situation, knowledge management was introduced. To integrate knowledge of two organizations in the process of PMI is an important job for all merger candidates. This study aims at presenting the successful results from using knowledge management as a means to PMI ahead of other financial institutions so they can apply them to their organizations. PMI was not achieved properly after the two banks had been merged as Hanbit, but entering the era of Woori Bank, workers were integrated under one standard organization following the organizational and knowledge integration, and knowledge management was introduced for an efficient sharing of knowledge among members. A great number of mergers have occurred up to now, but Woori Bank is the first case that used knowledge management as a means to both PMI and competitiveness enhancement. Probably it was an appropriate time when Woori Bank introduced knowledge management as it was organized. Since Hanil Bank and Commercial Bank of Korea had not introduced knowledge management until then, it could use knowledge management as a means to PMI. Using knowledge management, it could create a new organizational culture and increase competitiveness in the banking industry.

창업보육서비스에 따른 입주기업의 창업보육센터 의존도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Startups' Dependence on Business Incubation Centers)

  • 창업보육센터는 창업을 준비하는 예비창업자 및 신규 창업자에게 사업을 영위하는데 필요한 자원 및 서비스를 제공하고, 사업을 수행하는 과정에서 발생되는 다양한 문제의 해결에 도움을 주고 있다. 그러나 이러한 지원은 상황에 따라 기업의 자생력을 높이기보다는 창업보육센터에 대한 의존도를 높이는 경향이 있다. 본 연구는 창업보육서비스를 제공형태에 따라 인프라 지원, 네트워크 연계 지원, 직접 지원으로 분류한 후에 이들 서비스의 제공이 입주기업의 창업보육센터 의존도에 미치는 영향관계를 살펴보고, 아울러 입주기간에 따른 조절효과를 살펴보았다. 연구결과 세 가지 보육서비스 모두 의존도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었으며, 입주기간에 따른 조절효과는 기간이 늘어날수록 네트워크 연계 지원서비스에 정의 효과가 있는 반면 직접 지원서비스는 부의 효과가 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 이러한 결과는 입주기간이 늘어감에 따라 직접 지원서비스의 경우에는 입주기업이 센터의 자원을 흡수하여 기업의 역량으로 만들어 가지만, 네트워크 연계 지원서비스는 기업의 센터에 대한 의존도를 높이고 있다는 것을 보여준다. 따라서 신생기업이 자생력을 갖기 위해서는 보육서비스를 보육기간에 따라 차별적으로 제공해야 한다는 시사점을 제시하고 있다.

ISO 9001:2009 품질경영원리의 실행에 관한 연구 (A Study on ISO 9001:2009 Quality Management Principles Implementation)

  • In this era of globally competitive world market, many business firms have been using ISO 9000 quality management system, whose principles are leadership, customer focus, people involvement, etc., which are expected and desired to be attained for the various long/short term goals of the business firms. This paper studies whether and how those principles are implemented in the areas of service, manufacturing, etc., and researches the regression relations between business firm's performance and those principles. Using hypothesis testing, we found and showed results which can be referenced for the higher performance of business firms and those can be added to the pool of knowledge about the ISO principles implementation in service and manufacturing industries.

  • The company cannot optimize its computing environment just with individual solutions such as ERP(enterprise resource planning), SCM(supply chain management), CRM(customer relationship management), and KM(knowledge management). EAI(enterprise application integration) has emerged as an alternative that can optimize computing environment of the company through integrating such solutions and systems of distributed computing and mainframe environment. This paper reports the case study of Deakyo Co. in successfully implementing EAI. It describes project goal, project organization, project plan, the implemented EAI configuration and its features, the EAI effectiveness to the firm, and the critical success factors of the EAI project. This case study is thought to be useful as a practical guideline in carrying out EAI project of the company and to provide significant basis for constructing the theoretical framework of EAI project methodology.
