The Effect of Compression Ratio on Combustion and Performance Characteristics of Direct Injection Spark Ignition Hydrogen Fueled Engine. (직접분사식 스파크점화 수소기관의 연소 및 성능특성에 미치는 압축비의 영향)

  • As fundamental step to find the suitable compression ratio of hydrogen fueled engine, performance and combustion characteristics of that engine were analyzed. Qualitative characteristics of the hydrogen fueled engine were similar to that of the gasoline engine, and it was also found that knock limit compression ratio of the hydrogen fueled engine was higher than that of the gasoline engine.

  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is used to reduce NOx emission, to improve fuel economy, and to suppress knock since it offers the benefits of the inlet charge dilution. The effects of EGR was investigated on the performance and emission to reduce exhaust thermal load with a single cylinder liquid-phase LPG injection engine, in a wide range of EGR rate, engine conditions and LPG proportions. As EGR rate was increased, NOx was reduced while HC was increased. Pumping loss reduction by EGR improved bsfc and increased EGR lowered exhaust gas temperature. And, LPG proportions were made a difference on the performance and emission characteristics.

Flame Propagation Characteristics in a Heavy Duty Liquid Phase LPG Injection SI Engine by Flame Visualization (대형 액상 LPG 분사식 SI 엔진에서 화염 가시화를 이용한 희박영역에서의 화염 전파특성 연구)

  • Combustion and flame propagation characteristics of the liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) engine were investigated in a single cylinder optical engine. Lean bum operation is needed to reduce thermal stress of exhaust manifold and engine knock in a heavy duty LPG engine. An LPLI system has advantages on lean operation. Optimized engine design parameters such as swirl, injection timing and piston geometry can improve lean bum performance with LPLI system. In this study, the effects of piston geometry along with injection timing and swirl ratio on flame propagation characteristics were investigated. A series of bottom-view flame images were taken from direct visualization using an W intensified high-speed CCD camera. Concepts of flame area speed, In addition to flame propagation patterns and thermodynamic heat release analysis, was introduced to analyze the flame propagation characteristics. The results show the correlation between the flame propagation characteristics, which is related to engine performance of lean region, and engine design parameters such as swirl ratio, piston geometry and injection timing. Stronger swirl resulted in foster flame propagation under open valve injection. The flame speed was significantly affected by injection timing under open valve injection conditions; supposedly due to the charge stratification. Piston geometry affected flame propagation through squish effects.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest implications for mathematics teaching and learning when using AI-based educational platforms that support personalized mathematics learning. To this end, we selected five platforms(Knock-knock! Math Expedition, knowre, Khan Academy, MATHia, CENTURY) and analyzed how the AI-based educational platforms for mathematics reflect the three elements(PLP, PLN, PLE) to support personalized learning. The results of this study showed that although the characteristics of PLP, PLN, and PLE implemented on each platform varied, they were designed to form PLEs that allow learners to make their autonomous decisions about learning based on PLP and PLN. The significance of this study can be found in that it has improved the understanding and practicability of personalized mathematics learning with the AI-based educational platforms.

  • The combustion and exhaust emissions characteristics of a liquefied petroleum gas-di-methyl ether compression ignition engine with a variable valve timing device were investigated under various liquefied petroleum gas injection timing conditions. Liquefied petroleum gas was used as the main fuel and was injected directly into the combustion chamber. Di-methyl ether was used as an ignition promoter and was injected into the intake port. Different liquefied petroleum gas injection timings were tested to verify the effects of the mixture homogeneity on the combustion and exhaust emission characteristics of the liquefied petroleum gas-di-methyl ether compression ignition engine. The average charge temperature was calculated to analyze the emission formation. The ringing intensity was used for analysis of knock characteristics. The combustion and exhaust emission characteristics differed significantly depending on the liquefied petroleum gas injection and intake valve open timings. The CO emission increased as the intake valve open and liquefied petroleum gas injection timings were retarded. However, the particulate matter emission decreased and the nitrogen oxide emission increased as the intake valve open timing was retarded in the diffusion combustion regime. Finally, the combustion efficiency decreased as the intake valve open and liquefied petroleum gas injection timings were retarded.

  • As advantages of LPG-DI engine, LPG is directly injected into combustion chamber during compression stroke to reduce compression temperature, prevent knock and spontaneous combustion, and adjust engine output using the amount of directly injected fuel, thereby reducing pumping loss caused by throttle valve. Stratified charge can be supplied nearby spark plugs to allow for overall lean combustion, which improves thermal efficiency and can cope with problems regarding emission regulations. In addition, it is characterized by free designing of intake manifold. Despite the fact that LPG-DI has many advantages as described above, there is lack of detailed investigation and study on spray characteristics, combustion flame characteristics, and ignition probability. In this study, a visualization experiment system that consists of visualization combustion chamber, air supply control system, emission control system, LPG fuel supply system, electronic control system and image data acquisition system was designed and manufactured. For supply of stratified charge in the combustion chamber, alignment of injector and spark plugs was made linear.

  • Natural gas is a promising alternative fuel to meet strict engine emission regulations in many countries. Natural gas engines can operate at lean burn and stoichiometric burn conditions with different combustion and emission characteristics. In this paper, the fuel economy, emissions, misfire, knock and cycle-to-cycle variations in indicated mean effective pressure of lean burn natural gas engines are highlighted. Stoichiometric burn natural gas engines are briefly reviewed. To keep the output power and torque of natural gas engines comparable to that of gasoline engines, high boosting pressure should be used. High activity catalyst for methane oxidation and lean deNOx system or three way catalyst with precisely control strategies should be developed to meet stringent emission standards.

  • To find performance and knock limit for compression ratio in hydrogen fueled engine, the variable compression ratio hydrogen fueled engine which was able to vary compression ratio during firing was manufactured and estimated. The characteristics of the variable compression ratio hydrogen fueled engine were as follows : 1) compression ratio variation by moving of cylinder head, 2) OHC which can be realized low S/V ratio, short flame propagation distance and unvariable configuration of combustion chamber for compression ratio variation, 3) direct injection of hydrogen gas to restrict back fire.

  • Bauhaus, founded in Weimar, Germany in 1919, represented Modernism which is proven in the field of art as well as architecture. Furthermore, in design field, Bauhaus is the essential historical event whose influence continues in contemporary design. Bauhaus furniture is simple and austere and has linear shapes which are suitable for mass production. Bauhaus developed functional furniture design such as knock-down and pre-fabricated furniture. In terms of finishes, Bauhaus furniture epitomizes the influence of De Stijl which used either achromatic colors and three primary colors or natural finishes of wood. Bauhaus contributed to furniture design field as below. 1. Success in mass-produced furniture through standardization and pre-fabrication 2.   • Hoe beak village (Donggu manseokdong, Akasaki Village) is the oldest slums in Incheon. Recently, 'Mixed residential environment improvement project' is being promoted as Aboriginal entire resettlement goals in place of 'new building reconstruction and redevelopment projects' knock down everything this hoe beak village existed already. Resident representatives meeting configuration goes, but still do business magazine in the right direction. Therefore, in this study, the proposed architectural solutions to meet the demand of residents on the research problems, performed in a manner that the local improved hoe Buri village residential environment improvement projects and analyze the current situation and characteristics. In this study, the following improvements are presented. Prepare guidelines and maintain design guidelines for maintaining the identity of the village, Improve continuous landscape of the village, Construction of mixed-use sanitation facilities, Using a mini-lot and Vacant for Ssamzie Park Development, Units of housing types for Shared housing and co-operation are proposed.
