  • This paper presents a design of the reticle stage for lithography using VCM(Voice Coil Motor) and kinematic analysis. The stage has three axes for X,Y,${\theta}_z$, those actuated by three VCM's individually. The reticle stage has cross coupled relations between X,Y,${\theta}_z$ axes, and the closed solution of the forward/inverse kinematics were solved to get an accurate reference position. The reticle stage for lithography was designed for reaching both high accuracy and long stroke, which was $0.1{\mu}m$ (X,Y)/ $1{\mu}rad({\theta}_z)$ accuracies and relatively long strokes about 2mm (X,Y) and 2 degrees(${\theta}_z$). Also this research presents a rotational compensation algorithm for the precision gap sensor for the stage. Simulation results show the overall performance of the whole algorithm and the improvement quantity of the rotational compensation algorithm.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the kinematics between the double collar-tie and double underhook Thai Boxing clinching positions. Ten amateur mixed martial arts athletes executed six knee strikes for both clinching positions with their dominant limb directed towards a target. A standard two-dimensional video motion analysis was conducted, and the results showed a statistical significant difference at the hip joint angle and the angular acceleration of the knee and ankle. Within both clinching positions, there was a statistically significant correlation between the hip and knee joint angles, hip and knee angular velocities, and hip angular acceleration. Between both clinching positions, there was a statistically significant correlation at the knee joint angle, knee angular velocity, and hip angular acceleration. This study demonstrates the importance of the hip and knee joint movements in both clinching positions, which implies the applications of strength training and flexibility at these joints for sports performance and injury prevention. It is suggested that future studies analyzing the non-dominant leg are warranted to fully understand the Thai Boxing clinch.

  • Slope stability analysis of the right abutment of a railway bridge proposed at about 350 m above the ground level, crossing a river and connecting two huge hillocks in the Himalayas, India is presented in this paper. The site is located in a highly active seismic zone. The rock slopes are intensely jointed and the joint spacing and orientation are varying at different locations. Static slope stability of the rock slope is studied using equivalent continuum approach through the most commonly used commercial numerical tools like FLAC and SLOPE/W of GEOSTUDIO. The factor of safety for the slope under static conditions was 1.88 and it was reduced by 46% with the application of earthquake loads in pseudo-static analysis. The results obtained from the slope stability analyses confirmed the global stability of the slope. However, it is very likely that there could be possibility of wedge failures at some of the pier locations. This paper also presents the results from kinematics of right abutment slope for the wedge failure analysis based on stereographic projections. Based on the kinematics, it is recommended to flatten the slope from 50o to 43o to avoid wedge failures at all pier locations.

  • This study proposes a new approach to Control and trajectory generation of a 8 DOF human robot arm with computational complexity and singularity problem. To deal with such problems, analytical methods for a redundant robot arm have been researched to enhance the performance of research, we propose an analytical kinematics algorithm for a 8 DOF bipped dual robot arm. Using this algorithm, it is possible to generate a trajectory passing through the singular points and intuitively move the elbow without regarding to the end-effector pose. Performance of the proposed algorithm was verified by simulation test with various conditions. It has been verified that the trajectory planning using this algorithm.

  • To avoid radiation exposure from repeated x-rays taken during orthopedic surgery, an x-ray permeable teleoperated Stewart platform for orthopedic fracture surgery was developed. This system is composed of a user interface device and a teleoperated operational robot, both of which use a Stewart platform mechanism. The links of the operational robot are made from an x-ray permeable material, polycarbonate, to minimize the interference. The forward and inverse kinematics algorithm applied and the structural reliability were both verified through an analysis using commercial engineering software. To monitor the operating status in real time and stop the device during an emergency, a monitoring software was developed. The performance of the x-ray permeable teleoperated Steward platform was validated experimentally.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between the concept of heat and that of temperature for elementary students. Eight multiple choice type questions with explanation of reasons for selection were developed based on previous researches and the analysis of science curriculum for elementary students. The students of 9, 10, 11 years(n=292) were selected from two elementary schools in Taegu City. The responses of students' multiple choice and their explanations were analysed in each items χ² test used for the relationships between types of heat and temperature conceptions Half of elementary student could discriminate the two terms of heat and temperature, majority of them thought that heat is likely to be hot and temperature is the quantity of heat, which is not based on scientific conception. Elementary students thinkings about heat could be classified with material type of heat and molecular kinematics type. Material type of heat were more popular than with molecular kinematics type, although the latter is increased. Majority of students answered correctly in qualitative questions of mixing of hot and cold water, but about only one third of them answers in quantitative questions. Subtraction of cold temperature from hot temperature was the most popular explanation, even though one-quarter of students summed up the two temperature in quantitative situation of mixing hot and cold waters. Those who thought heat as the molecular kinetic responded more correctly in most difficult questions than those who as the material. Therefore, we concluded that the types of heat conceptions affected the concept formation of temperature.

  • Objective: This study examined differences in joint kinematics and movement variability of lower extremity between adolescent athletes with and without lateral ankle sprain (LAS) history during drop vertical jump. Method: Fourteen adolescent athletes with LAS history and 14 controls participated in this study. The independent variable was group while dependent variables were 3D joint kinematics and movement variability of hip, knee, and ankle joint. Ensemble curve analyses were conducted to identify differences in movement strategies between two groups. Results: The LAS group showed that greater eversion during jump phase compared with the control group. Additionally, less movement variability was found in the LAS group during the pre-landing and jump phases in ankle and hip joints compared with the control group. Conclusion: The LAS group may adapt the environmental constraints by reducing the movement variability in ankle and hip joints. However, training programs focusing on recovery of ankle function should be emphasized after LAS because excessive pronation for prevention of LAS during the jump phase may result in reduced performance.
