  • In this study, the physico chemical characteristic of MSW and sludge in west area of Kangwondo was investigated for database, managing the waste and waste treatment facility. The sampling sites were selected as 6 different MSW generation area and 2 sludge generation area. it is necessary to measure the characteristics of MSW to build the data-base. The year of 2000, 197.4ton/day of MSW which was generated in this area. This MSW was composed of 26.6% food wastes, 24.2% of papers, 22.8% of plastics & vinyls, 9.6% of textiles, 3.80% of wood, 2.8% of rubbers & leathers and others, respectively. Most of MSW are composed of food, paper and plastic waste and combustible waste is more than 89%. The generation of papers and vinyls are almost same for different seasons For 3-components of MSW, moisture is 40.2%, combustible component is 52.1% and ash is 7.7% and for 3-components of sludge, moisture is 83.3%, combustible component is 7.7% and ash is 9%. The chemical element has the high order of carbon(51.6%), oxygen(38.6%), hydrogen(7%) on the dry basis of wastes. And the high heating value of MSW is 4989.4 Kcal/kg sludge is 4428.04 Kcal/kg and low heating value of the MSW which is measured by calorimeter is 2032.88kcal/kg. From the leaching test of wastes, there is no heavy metals.

  • Let A be a $C^*$-algebra and $A^**$ its enveloping von Neumann algebra. Pedersen and Akemann developed four concepts of lower semicontinuity for elements of $A^**$. Later, Brown suggested using only three classes: strongly lsc, middle lsc, and weakly lsc. In this paper, we generalize the concept of weak semicontinuity [1, 3] to the case of unbounded operators affiliated with $A^**$. Also we consider the generalized version of the conditions of the Brown's theorem [3, Proposition 2.2 & 3.27] for unbounded operators.

  • An analytical method is presented for predicting the effect of a local deviation in the form of a concentrated mass along a radial line on the free bending vibration characteristics of a nearly axisymmetric circular plate. The approach is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the expression of local deviation of the concentrated radial mass as the variation of heaviside unit step function. The effects of the concentrated mass on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the plate are predicted with a proposed nondimensional mass parameter.

  • In recent days, climatic change cause abnormal weather all over the world and we have a great loss of life and property every year. In Korea, we suffer from landslide problem because large regions of Korea Peninsula are composed of mountain. In order to detect rapidly and to take follow-up measures of disaster, the remote sensing is being used actively as conventional field survey has many restrictions in accessibility because of more time and man power requirement. In additions interferometric SAR is one of the techniques that have our attention because it can provide many kinds of accurate surface information without restriction of atmospheric and ground conditions by using L-band. In this study, we aimed to monitor the displacement of mountain area in Kangwondo and this results will be used for detecting landslide. Also we build the web system for detecting and analyzing the landslide.

  • This study was carried out to provide basic data for establishment of Natural Ecology Center through vegetation research in Nodong valley, Pyungchanggun of Kangwondo. The vascular plants consisted of total 178 taxa such as 56 families, 121 genera, 152 species, 24 varieties and two forms. In the study area, we found some plants designated as protect plants by the Ministry of Environment such as Dryopteris crassirhizoma and Rodgersia podophylla that is a vulnerable species and Iris odaesanensis that is an endemic species. Communities by characteristic in species composition of Nodong valley forest were classified into Quercus mongolica - Acer pseudosieboldianum community as a natural forest community and Larix leptolepis and Pinus koraiensis community as artificial forest. The Quercus mongolica-Acer pseudosieboldianum community was further classified as Pinus densiflora subcommunity and Acer mono subcommunity. A protection program will be needed for Iris odaesanensis classified as an endemic species to make a Natural Ecology Center.

  • This research was conducted on the conservation area of Baekdudaegan, Kangwondo under the purpose of evaluating bio-diversity according to the changes of spatial scale, using GIS data and spatial filtering method. The diversity index was calculated based on the information of species of The $5^{th}$ forest type map using Shannon-weaver index (H'), evenness index ($E_i$) and richness index ($R_i$). The diversity index was analyzed and compared according to the changes of 12 spatial scales from Kernel size $3{\times}3$ to $73{\times}73$ and basin unit. As for H' and $R_i$, spatial scale increased as diversity index decreased, while $E_i$ decreases gradually. H' and $R_i$ was highest; each 1.1 and 0.6, when the Kernel size was $73{\times}73$, while $E_i$ was 0.2, the lowest. When you look at according to the basin unit, for large basin unit, 'YeongDong' region shows higher diversity index than 'YeongSeo' region. For middle basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' region, and for small basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' and 'Gangneung Ohbongdaem' region shows high diversity index. When you look at the relationship between diversity index and Geographic factors, H' shows positive relation to curvature and sunshine factor while shows negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. Also $E_i$ was similar to the relationship between H' and Geographic factor. Meanwhile, $R_i$ shows positive relationship to curvature and sunshine factor, while negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. macro unit diversity index evaluation was possible through the GIS data and spatial filtering, and it can be a good source for local biosphere conservation policy making.

  • The diagenetic history of the carbonate rocks of the Mungok Formation near Machari area, Kangwondo, was investigated based on textural, isotopic, and chemical data. Paragenetic relationship among diagenetic minerals, coupled with their distinct geochemical contents, shows that the Mungok Formation have undergone several stages of diagenetic events: 1) shallow marine, 2) meteoric, 3) shallow to intermediate burial, and 4) deep burial diagenesis. Shallow marine diagenesis includes fibrous calcite cementation, micritization, and framboidal pyritization, and meteoric diagenesis involved dissolution and recrystallization of unstable allochems (both aragonite and HMC), syntaxial overgrowth on echinoderm fragments, and equant calcite cementation. During shallow to intermediate burial, idiotopic dolomite and chert formed, and xenotopic dolomitization took place before stylolitization of the rocks. After the rocks were deeply buried, saddle dolomitization, second stage of silicification, and dedolomitization occurred.
