  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of social network service on the collaborative learning. Four groups were categorized depending on the use of different types of the social network services - Kakao Talk, Facebook, both Kakao Talk and Facebook, and unused group. A preliminary test revealed that there was no difference in mobile efficacy, career decision making self-efficacy, course interest among the four groups. In the post test, the groups that used either Kakao Talk group or the group that used both Kakao Talk and Facebook retained significantly higher average score in team collaboration scale than Facebook group and unused group. The analysis of the messages in Facebook exhibited that the group used both Kakao Talk and Facebook generated larger number of messages, read, replies, clicks of "good" than the groups used only Facebook. These results strongly support the statistical significance.

  • This research is to investigate the impact of informal communication of smart-phone user while at work on performance. To do this, we proposed the research model including informal offline communication represented by tea time and informal online communication typified by Kakao talk derived from water-cooler effect. The results of this empirical study is summarized as followings. First, Kakao talk with insiders has a positive effect on performance only in male group, and Kakao talk with outsiders has a negative effect on performance in both male and female group. Secondly, tea time has a positive effect on performance in group with high task interdependence, whereas Kakao talk with insiders has a positive effect on performance in group with low task interdependence. The findings have significant implications for policy development to regulate the wise smart-phone use in organization.

  • Social media have become ubiquitous owing to the well established smart mobile environment and have expanded offline relationship into online relationship. This study investigates the decisive factors for using the popular social media in Korea, KakaoStory, by analyzing its usage patterns and motives. Beside simple reasons, such as the increased awareness and serviceability due to the popular use of KakaoTalk, our research also showed that KakaoStory was used to improve the relationship within a closed group of people they already recognize offline. In addition, fashion consciousness related to collective inclination of Koreans also affected the popular usage of KakaoStory in Korea.

  • This paper attempts to investigate Korean youth Not in Education, Employment and Training (NEET) and how daily activities and community participation may influence their positive emotions and job search desire. First, we conducted a focus group interview with 16 NEETs who participated in the Kakao NEET Company project. The project allowed participants to experience employment by founding a virtual company in which each participant selected a daily activity to perform as part of the company's operations. Second, the interview responses were categorized and assigned emotional values using the card sorting technique and multi-dimensional analysis (MDS). A total of 11 emotional values were derived through this process. Finally, a social network analysis was conducted in order to measure the density of relations among the emotional values. Results suggest that immersion, confidence, belongingness were the three highest values evaluated by participants. Furthermore, network diagrams imply that the stronger participants perceived social support and belongingness with others, the stronger their responsibility grew, further leading them to establish steady goals. In particular, the high eigenvector score for "desire for job" suggests that emotional values are sequentially connected to the immersion-social support-responsibility-goal-job desire. This sequence suggests that digital services that are developed with the aim to enhance social values such as the Kakao NEET Project may engender motivation and confidence in youth NEETs. The overall results suggest that a systematic approach to policymaking should be considered in order to provide fundamental solutions and expand opportunities for social participation and emotional comfort, as social isolation due to low self-esteem has been reported as one of the reasons for NEETs' failure in the labor market.

  • Theoretically, it is known that common beliefs and/or common knowledge cannot be attained in asynchronously distributed multiagent environments, however, it show that some propositions with deadlines can be attained as common beliefs among a set of fully trusted agents even when they communicate to each other asynchronously. Generally, in the multiagent environment, the attainment of common beliefs is approached as a problem of communication, and for the common beliefs paradox that the common beliefs is not attained on a system without communication time restriction is applied to loose coarser granularity and it prove that forming common beliefs is possible by relaxing necessary requirements through the KakaoTalk chatting model. I also experimented with the reasoning function that confirms the common beliefs by inquiring about the common belief generated by implementing the inference function in each agent of the KakaoTalk chatting model. Through utilizing metalogic programming, a formalization of the presentation and reasoning of common beliefs has been achieved, and the group chatting model of KakaoTalk was adopted in experiments to show that common beliefs can be formed among distributed agents using asynchronous communication.

Furthermore, the radical advancement of artificial intelligence(AI) presents the huge potential to innovate almost all the industrial and economic activities. Given these technological developments, the goal of this paper is to investigate AI's impact on the platform service innovation as well as its influence on the business performance. For the goal, this paper presents the review of the types of service innovation, the nature of platform services, and technological characteristics of leading AI technologies, such as chatbot and recommendation system. As an empirical study, this paper performs a multiple case study of Kakao Group which is the leading mobile platform service with the most advanced AI in Korea. To understand the role and effect of AI on Kakao platform service, this study investigated three cases, including chatbot agent of Kakao Bank, Smart Call service of Kakao Taxi, and music recommendation system of Kakao Mellon. The analysis results of the case study show that AI initiated innovations in platform service concepts, service delivery, and customer interface, all of which lead to a significant decrease in the transaction costs and the personalization of services. Finally, for the successful development of AI, this research emphasizes the significance of the accumulation of customer and operational data, the AI human capital, and the design of R&D organization.

  • The change of social media market toward multimedia environment makes users select social media according to preference factor's gratification and this also causes competition among various social medias. So this study focused on competition among social media from the perspective of users' gratification while considering multimedia environment of social media market. The widely known Niche theory is used to confirm competitions among media in an environment with limited resource. According to research result, (1) Facebook and Kakao Talk mostly satisfies users' expectations; (2) Facebook and Kakao Talk form leading group and Blog, Youtube and Twitter form chasing group in this competition; (3) Kakao Talk greatly satisfies users' various expectations. The research result implies that, for social media to have competitive advantage in the market, it is better to provide convenience and real-time responsiveness in mobile environment and to improve service so that users could more easily utilize network.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of learners' academic achievement and learner interaction through project - based learning. In the case of interaction, we focused on the field of learning, that is, the learner's communication style in various technical environments. The subjects of this study were 80 learners who took a 3-hour elective English language learning course at a university in Korea. This study is to investigate the effect of learner interaction through KakaoTalk and LMS (Learning Management System). As a result of the study, it was found that there was a significant difference between learner interaction by project - based learning and communication type and kakao talk utilization group and LMS (Learning Management System) group. 1) The results of the kakao talk utilization group were significant in both the learner interaction and the learner's academic achievement according to the project - based learning and communication type. For current digital native learners, Kakao Talk is the result of the fact that it is the optimal environment for problem solving, communication, and uploading and sharing of educational activities.

  • A new communication revolution such as social networking service (SNS) has been transforming the way of interaction between people in both of individual level and organizational level. Recently many people have switched to closed type SNS such as Naver Band and Kakao group due to the several reasons. The purpose of this study is to investigate the usage motivation and satisfaction of SNS based on use and gratifications perspectives. Based on prior studies on use and gratifications of Internet-related media and SNS, information motivation, relationship motivation, pleasure/entertainment motivation, self-expression motivation, work motivation were identified as usage motivation of SNS. This empirical study explores how these motivations vary between open type SNS(facebook and twitter) and closed type SNS(band and kakao group). This study contributes to provide the base of activation strategies and practical implications for companies using SNS as a marketing tool.
