Reliable estimation of compressive as well as tensile in-situ stresses is critical in the design and analysis of underground structures and openings in rocks. Kaiser effect technique, which uses acoustic emission from rock specimens under cyclic load, is well established for the estimation of in-situ compressive stresses. This paper investigates the Kaiser effect on marble specimens under cyclic uniaxial compressive as well as cyclic uniaxial tensile conditions. The tensile behavior was studied by means of Brazilian tests. Each specimen was tested by applying the load in four loading cycles having magnitudes of 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the peak stress. The experimental results confirm the presence of Kaiser effect in marble specimens under both compressive and tensile loading conditions. Kaiser effect was found to be more dominant in the first two loading cycles and started disappearing as the applied stress approached the peak stress, where felicity effect became dominant instead. This behavior was observed to be consistent under both compressive and tensile loading conditions and can be applied for the estimation of in-situ rock stresses as a function of peak rock stress. At a micromechanical level, Kaiser effect is evident when the pre-existing stress is smaller than the crack damage stress and ambiguous when pre-existing stress exceeds the crack damage stress. Upon reaching the crack damage stress, the cracks begin to propagate and coalesce in an unstable manner. Hence acoustic emission observations through Kaiser effect analysis can help to estimate the crack damage stresses reliably thereby improving the efficiency of design parameters.
The peculiar motion of the observer, if not (or only imperfectly) accounted for, is bound to induce a well-defined clustering signal in the distribution of galaxies. This spurious signal is related to the Kaiser rocket effect. We examined the amplitude of this effect and discuss possible implications for analysis and interpretation of future cosmological surveys. We found that it can in principle bias very significantly the inference of cosmological parameters, especially for primordial non-Gaussianity.

This study is damage evaluation for CNG fuel tank during the burst test through the analysis of acoustic emission signals. Kaiser effect until the pressure 420 bar appears, but More than 420 bar by the creep effect appears significantly damaged vessels, and 480 bar pressure, the Kaiser effect of the rising phase was missing. Resonant transducer at 540 bar than 480 bar decreased activity such as energy and count Continually, but increased wideband transducer. In addition, through the rise time or frequency analysis of composite pressure vessels in order to observe the damage mechanisms wideband transducer is more effective than resonant transducer.
The thermo-acoustic emission (AE) technique has been applied for nondestructive characterization of composite laminates subjected to cryogenic cooling. Thermo-AE events during heating and cooling cycles showed a Kaiser effect. An analysis of the thermo-AE behavior obtained during the 1st heating period suggested a method for determining the stress-free temperature of the composite laminates. Three different thermo-AE types classified by a short-time Fourier transform of AE signals enabled to offer a nondestructive estimation of the cryogenic damages of the composites, in that the different thermo-AE types corresponded to secondary microfracturing in the matrix contacting between crack surfaces and some abrasive contact between broken fiber ends during thermal load cycles.
This paper described analysis of acoustic emission parameter for the damage evaluation of type II vehicle fuel tank during fracture test. The observation of Kaiser effect, Felicity effect and creep effect is the means of damage evaluation method. It is possible to evaluate tank damage by the ratio of hit of over 60 dB and total hit. Damage mechanism of pressure tank can be estimated by analysis of average rise time, average amplitude.
In this paper, we implemented an Ultra-Wideband radar system using Stripmap Synthetic Apertrure Radar algorithm to recognize objects inside a box. Different window functions such as Hanning, Hamming, Kaiser, and Taylor functions to improve image recognition performance are applied and implemented to radar system. The Ultra-Wideband radar system with 3.1~4.8 GHz broadband and UWB antenna were implemented to recognize the conductor plate located inside 1m3 box. To obtain the image, we use the propagation data in the time domain according to the 1m movement distance and use the Range Doppler algorithm. The effect of different window functions to improve the recognition performance of the image are analyzed. From the compared results, we confirmed that the Kaiser window function can obtain a relatively good image.

This study was carried out to measure the mechanical properties and the acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of the carbon fiber reinforced composites of several types of the stacking sequence. AE signals were detected during the tensile tests. The number of ringdown counts, total ringdown counts were plotted together with the load-displacement curves. The tensile load-displacement behavior of specimen is compared and discussed based on the measured AE properties in relation to the failure mechanism. With the increase of load, AE signals increased. This showed that failure had being propagated by matrix deformation and cracking, delamination, fiber debonding and breakage. Felicity ratio has been obtained by observation of ;the Kaiser effect according to the variation of load ratio. The reloading tests showed that the felicity ratio decreased obviously when the load ratio or damage increased. These AE characteristics are hopeful to be employed as the criteria to evaluate the failure processes of composites.
High Performance Fiber-reinforced Cement Composite (HPFRCC) shows the multiple crack and damage tolerance capacity due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. For practical application, it is needed to investigate the fractural behavior of HPFRCC and understand the micro-mechanism of cement matrix with reinforcing fiber. This study is devoted to the investigation of the AE signals in HPFRCC under monotonic and cyclic uniaxial compressive loading, and total four series were tested. The major experimental parameters include the type and volume fraction of fiber (PE, PVA, SC), the hybrid type and loading pattern. The test results showed that the damage progress by compressive behavior of the HPFRCC is a characteristic for the hybrid fiber type and volume fraction. It is found from acoustic emission (AE) parameter value, that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the amplitude as compared with the first compressive load cycle. Also, the AE Kaiser effect existed in HPFRCC specimens up to 80% of its ultimate strength. These observations suggested that the AE Kaiser effect has good potential to be used as a new tool to monitor the loading history of HPFRCC.
Acoustic emission is n burst of microseismic waves generated by microscopic failure due to deformation in materials. The study on the detection of initiation and propagation of microcracks from acoustic emission measurement is very important for the evaluation of the stability of underground rock structures by the nondestructive letting method. In this study, acoustic emission was measured under uniaxial stiffness loading test used to obtain the complete stress-strain curves of marble and concrete used as reinforced materials of rock structures. The analysis of acoustic emission parameters and source location were performed to discuss the characteristics of the deformation and failure behavior of rock and concrete. And acoustic emission was measured under cyclic loading test to verify the Kaiser effect associated with the damage of materials, in situ stress of rock, and stress history of concrete structure.

An investigation on nondestructive evaluation of thermal stress-nduced damage in the composite laminates (3mm in thickness and $[+45_6/-45_6]_s$ lay-up angles) has been performed using the thermo-acoustic emission technique. Reduction of thermo-AE events due to repetitive thermal load cycles showed a Kaiser effect. An analysis of the thermo-AE behavior determined the stress free temperature of composite laminates. Fiber fracture and matrix cracks were observed using the optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and ultrasonic C-sean. Short-Time Fourier Transform of thermo-AE signals offered the time-frequency characteristics which might classily the thermo-AE as three different types to estimate the damage processes of the composites.
