Initiating Knowledge Management in Colleges and Universities: A template

  • Knowledge Management (KM) is a collaborative and integrated approach adopted at various levels to ensure that an organization's knowledge assets are best utilized to increase organizational performance. While KM has been adopted in a large number of sectors and organizations, colleges and universities, and the higher education sector in general, is yet to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by KM. Also, while past research has sought to highlight the importance of implementing KM in higher education, there is a lack of a single, clear template for KM implementation that universities leaders and administrators can adopt. The contribution of the paper is a practical, actionable, step-by-step plan, as well as a diagrammatic, theoretical framework for initiating KM successfully in colleges and universities.

Determination of Suitable Kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) Cultivars for Pickle Preparation

  • This study was designed to determine the best cultivar of kohlrabi for making pickles among KM-1 (Worldcol), KM-2 (Bejo), KM-3 (Takii), and KM-4 (Monsanto) cultivars. The initial pH of pickles was different in all cultivars; however, they all had a pH in the range of 3.81~3.86 after 28 days of storage. The pickles made from KM-4 had the lowest acidity, while there was no significant difference in acidity among the KM-1, KM-2, and KM-3 pickles. The salinity of all kohlrabi pickles was consistent during the storage period. The changes of color values were accelerated in the following order: KM-4>KM-1>KM-2>KM-3. Though kohlrabi pickles were non-fermented, the change in reducing sugar contents was similar to that of a fermented pickle. The highest value of reducing sugar content was found in pickles made with KM-4. In all cases, the firmness of the pickle decreased as time of storage increased. On the initial day, KM-4 pickle showed the highest firmness with 807.4 g. KM-4 also showed the highest firmness on the 28th day of storage with 602.3 g. In sensory evaluation, the KM-4 pickle exhibited the highest texture (hardness) among the pickles. The pickle made with the KM-4 cultivar showed relatively higher firmness of texture than other cultivars, suggesting that KM-4 could be utilized in other kinds of processed foods, in addition to being pickled.

  • Today, knowledge is considered the most strategically important resource. As research in knowledge management advances, it ought to review and categorize the already published literatures on knowledge management in the area of business strategy, accounting/finance, human resource management and management information technology. To identify the knowledge management research trend, we analyze 168 articles published in prominent academic journal during last two decades. This paper develops three stages model for knowledge management research: observation, initiation and evolution stage. Also, we classify the given researches according to the three criteria of contents, related academic area and applied research method.

국내 한의약공공보건사업 최근 연구 분석 (The Analysis of the Recent Research of Korean Medicine Public Health Promotion Programs in Korea)

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to analyze the recent research of Korean Medicine(KM) public health promotion programs in Korea. Method : We searched the study using Korean Medicine Information System, Research Information Service System and Korean Studies Information Service. We analyzed studies by research content, publication year and type of journal. Results : Analysis by research contents, it was divided into survey research, policy research, development research and evaluation research. Analysis by publication year, little research had been conducted from 1990 until 2000 and most of the research was done since 2000. Analysis by type of journal, 53% of studies published by journals related with KM. Conclusion : Development and evaluation research of KM public health promotion programs should be actively conducted. It is also need to establish the foundation in which KM public health promotion programs would be expanded not only KM field but also in other fields.

한국산 겨우살이 유산균 발효 추출물의 독성 및 면역증강 효과 (In vivo Toxicity and Immunoadjuvant Activity of Korean Mistletoe (Viscum album coloratum) Extract Fermented with Lactobacillus)

  • Lactobacillus casei KCTC 2180 및 Lact. plantarum KCTC 3103으로 발효된 한국산 겨우살이 추출물인 FKM-110의 렉틴 성분의 함량 변화, 독성 및 면역증강 효과를 검토하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 두 가지 유산균을 이용하여 KM-110을 1-3일간 발효시킨 결과, 렉틴 성분은 발효 전에 비하여 53-71% 정도의 함량을 나타냄으로서 감소되는 경향을 보였다. 마우스에 대한 시료의 독성시험을 위하여 각 시료를 피하 주사하고 $LD_{50}$ 값을 측정한 결과, KM-110은 50-100 mg/kg인 반면 유산균으로 발효된 겨우살이 추출물인 FKM-110은 150-200 mg/kg인 결과를 보임으로 발효에 의하여 in vivo 독성효과는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 각 시료를 macrphage에 직접 자극하여 염증성 cytokine인 IL-$1{\beta}$ 및 TNF-${\alpha}$의 생산능력을 조사한 결과, FKM-110이 KM-110에 비하여 낮은 cytokine의 생산양식을 나타냈다. 그러나 FKM-110의 항원 KLH에 대한 면역증가 효과를 항체 생산능으로 조사한 결과, KM-110과 차이 없이 항원 단독 투여군에 비하여 높은 역가의 항체가 생산되었다. 따라서 겨우살이 추출물을 유산균으로 발효시킨 결과, in vivo 독성은 감소하였으나 면역증강 활성은 KM-110과 동일하게 유지되는 결과를 얻었다. 따라서 겨우살이의 면역증강 활성에 관여하는 성분으로 렉틴 이외에 물질이 관여할 수 있음을 강하게 시사하였다.

제조 디젤엔진 오일과 상업용 디젤엔진 오일의 실차시험 연구 (The Study on Field Test of the New Formulated and Commercial Diesel Engine Oils)

  • A diesel engine oil formulated in KRICT and a commercial diesel engine oil (API CG-4) were tested by car and their Kinematic Viscosity, TAN, TBN, metal content, additive depletion, anti-wear property and IR analysis were analyzed. From the research, both of the tested oils had almost the same properties f3r the change of TAN and TBN, but the change of Kinematic Viscosity of formulated oil was slightly higher than that of commercial oil. The iron content in the commercial oil increased rapidly from 7000 km while that of the formulated oil was still low. These results were confirmed by the anti-wear test with a 4-ball wear test machine for the each samples. Also, for the commercial oil, the depletion factor of the Zn-DTP which was added as an anti-wear property did not change any more after 7000 km. But, that of the formulated oil changed continuously to 8000 km, which means that the ability to prevent wear of the sliding pairs exists for the formulated oil. From the analysis results of oil properties obtained by field test, it was found that the commercial oil could be used only within 7000 km, but the formulated oil could be used more than 8000 km without severe wear of the sliding parts in the diesel engine.

마늘 Oleoresin의 제조 및 저장안정성에 관한 연구 (Preparation and Keeping Quality of Garlic Oleoresin)

  • 마늘의 이용성 증진에 관한 기초자료를 얻고자 마늘로부터 oleoresin을 제조하고, 아울러 저장안정성 시험을 실시하였다. 물, 인산, 마늘 extract 및 poly sorbate를 혼합하고 antifoam agent인 KM-72을 가하여 거품의 생성을 방지한다. 여기에 lecithin을 첨가한 후 온도를 $50{\sim}55^{\circ}C$에서 7분간 유지한 다음, 다시 온도를 $25^{\circ}C$ 이하로 냉각하고, 최종적으로 TBHQ 및 마늘 정유물을 혼합하여 마늘 oleoresin을 제조하였다. 마늘 oleoresin 제조를 위한 적정 조성은 정유물 1.0%, extract 10.5%, poly sorbate 10.0%, KM-72 0.01%, lecithin 18.0%, TBHQ 0.05%, 인산용액 0.15% 및 물 60.0% 였다. 저장 60일 동안 thiosulfinate과 pyruvate 함량 및 관능검사를 기준으로 마늘 oleoresin의 품질을 판정할 때 $55^{\circ}C$ 저장 처리구의 품질저하는 거의 일어나지 않았으나 $25^{\circ}C$ 저장의 경우는 크게 일어났다.

Analysis of the 6-gingerol Content in Zingiber spp. and their Commercial Foods using HPLC

  • The content analysis of 6-gingerol, which is an active compound, in Zingiber spp. (Z. officinale and Z. mioga) and their commercial foods (ginger teas and powders) was conducted using high-performance liquid chromatography. A reverse phase system was used, with a gradient solvent system of water and acetonitrile. The 6-gingerol content was highest in the methanol extract of Z. officinale root (17.09 mg/g extract) and ginger powder B (15.92 mg/g extract). The results demonstrated that this method was simple and reliable for the quality control of Zingiber commercial foods.

Antioxidant Potentials and Quantification of Flavonoids in Mung Bean (Vigna radiata L.) Seeds

  • Mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) is an increasingly important human food source, as well as a new functional agent, mainly due to its potent antioxidant activity. This study was conducted to determine antioxidant activity of fractions from mung bean seeds by measuring DPPH radical scavenging activity and to quantify the flavonoids by means of HPLC analysis. Vitexin and isovitexin were present in both ethanol and water extracts in highest amount. Flavonoids, vitexin and isovitexin were quantified from 195 germplasms of mung beans and their concentrations varied by 4.7 fold. Especially, the breeding line KM99004-4B-2 (Suwon28/KM94004), which has grown in Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extension Services, showed the highest amount (15.88 mg/g) of total flavonoids. The vitexin portion was averaged $70.73{\pm}1.38\%$. High positive correlation $(r=0.96^{***})$ between vitexin and isovitexin contents showed. However, the flavonoid content showed very low correlation with the 24 growth and ecological characteristics. Seed coats of mung beans had the highest flavonoid amount, showing $50\~70$ times more than cotyledons. Flavonoid contents in the seed, the cotyledon, and the seed coat were decreased as the seed imbibition time increased.

The Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles(ELVs) in Taiwan

  • 대만의 국토면적은 36,006 km$^2$ 이고 2003년 현재 인구는 대략 22,535,000명 으로써, 인구밀도는 625명/km$^2$ 에 달한다. 대만 경제는 1970년 이래로 꾸준히 발전하여 국민총생산이 2004년에는 1981년의 493%까지 증가하였다. 또한, 자동차 보유대수에 있어서도 1981년에 821,862대에서 2004년에 6,389,186대까지 증가하기에 이르렀고, 모터싸이클은 1981년 4,591,547대에서 2004년 12,793,950대로 늘어났다. 이들로부터 발생하는 폐자동차 및 폐모터싸이클의 리싸이클링은 폐기물처리법에 의거 관리를 받고 있으며, 일차적으로 이의 생산자 혹은 수입업자가 최종 처리까지 책임을 지도록 하고 있다. 또한 이들은 일정한 비율의 부담금을 예치하도록 법으로 정하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 대만에서의 폐자동차 및 폐모터싸이클의 처리현황과 특히 향후 이를 관리하게 될 EPA-RMFC의 계획과 처리방향에 대하여 고찰하고자 한다.
