PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to suggest a basis for setting appropriate safety goals specifically related to the threshold zone luminance in a vehicular traffic tunnel. METHODS : In the test, drivers were divided into two groups. One group consisted of all drivers (average drivers) group with an age ratio of drivers holding domestic driver's license and driver group by age to produce threshold zone luminance in the tunnel. The threshold zone luminance produced as a result was used to analyze how it affects the safety level of each driver group and provide a basis for setting an appropriate safety criterion that can be used to determine threshold zone luminance. We used test equipment, test conditions, and ananalysis of threshold zone luminance identical to that reported by ChoandJung(2014) but the values of adaptation luminance in our analys is were expanded to range from100 to $10,000cd/m^2$. RESULTS : Adaptation luminance and threshold zone luminance are found to be related by a quadratic function. The threshold zone luminance needed by older drivers to ensure a certain safety level is significantly higher than that for drivers of other age brackets when adaptation luminance increases. 56% of older drivers are at an increased risk of an accident at the same luminance for which the safety level of average drivers is 75%. The safety level that can be achieved for older drivers increases to above 60% when threshold zone luminance level is set with the goal of attaining a safety level of more than 85% for average drivers. The safety level that can be attained for average drivers is above 90% when the threshold zone luminance is high enough to ensure over 75% in the safety level of older drivers. Results of this study are applicable to highways and others whose designed speed is 100 km/h. CONCLUSIONS : Threshold zone luminance determined on the basis of drivers having average visual ability is of limited value as a performance standard for ensuring the safety of older drivers. Hence, safety level for older drivers should be considered separately from safety levels for drivers with an average ability to avoid risk. Upward adjustment of older drivers' safety level in the process of determining appropriate threshold zone luminance in a vehicular traffic tunnel may bring both tangible and intangible benefit as a result of reducing accidents. However, there is an associated dollar cost arising from installing and operating lights. As a result, the economic impact of these trade-offs should also be considered.

To dynamically and chemically understand how filaments, dense cores, and stars form under different environments, we are conducting a systematic mapping survey of nearby molecular clouds using the TRAO 14 m telescope with high ($N_2H^+$ 1-0, $HCO^+$ 1-0, SO 32-21, and $NH_2D$ v=1-0) and low ($^{13}CO$ 1-0, $C^{18}O$ 1-0) density tracers. The goals of this survey are to obtain the velocity distribution of low dense filaments and their dense cores for the study of their origin of the formation, to understand whether the dense cores form from any radial accretion or inward motions toward dense cores from their surrounding filaments, and to study the chemical differentiation of the filaments and the dense cores. Until Feb. 2017, the real OTF observation time is 460 hours. We have almost completed mapping observation with four molecular lines ($^{13}CO$ 1-0, $C^{18}O$ 1-0, $N_2H^+$ 1-0, and $HCO^+$ 1-0) on the five regions of molecular clouds (L1251 of Cepheus, Perseus west, Polaris south, BISTRO region of Serpense, California, and Orion B). The maps of a total area of $7.38deg^2$ for both $^{13}CO$ and $C^{18}O$ lines and $2.19deg^2$ for both $N_2H^+$ and $HCO^+$ lines were obtained. All OTF data were regridded to a cell size of 22 by 22 arcseconds. The $^{13}CO$ and $C^{18}O$ data show the RMS noise level of about 0.22 K and $N_2H^+$ and $HCO^+$ data show about 0.14 K at the velocity resolution of 0.06 km/s. Additional observations will be made on some regions that have not reached the noise level for analysis. We are refining the process for a massive amount of data and the data reduction and analysis are underway. This presentation introduces the overall progress from observations to data processing and the initial analysis results to date.
Temporal (seasonal) and spatial distributions and variations of various physico-chemical factors (salinity, temperature, pH, DO, COD, SPM, POC, silicate, DIP, DIN) in surface and bottom waters were studied in the coastal environment with typical macro-tidal range and monsoonal weather condition, Gyeonggi Bay, west coast of Korea. Spacial distribution patterns of these factors were generally similar to each other, and appeared to be inversely related to the distribution pattern of salinity, suggesting that water quality of the study area was primarily controlled by the physical mixing process of Han-River freshwater with nearby coastal seawater. During flooding season, silicate- and nitrogen-rich Han River water directly flowed into offshore as far as $20\sim30\;km$ from the river mouth, probably causing serious environmental problems such as eutrophication and unusual and/or noxious algal bloom, etc. Except the surface water during summer flooding season, high concentrations of nutrients appeared generally in dry season, whereas low values in spring, possibly because of the occurrence of spring phytoplankton bloom. On the other hand, nutrient flux through the estuary seems to be primarily depending on river discharge, sewage discharge and agricultural activities, especially during the rainy season. Also, nutrients in this coastal waters are considered to be supplied from the sediments of tidal-flats, which developed extensively around the Han-River mouth, especially during fall and winter of dry and low discharge seasons, possibly due to the stirring of tidal flat sediments with highly enriched pore-water nutrients by storm. And also, COD and DIN concentrations in the study area consistently increased during the last 20 years, probably because of agricultural activities and increasing discharge of industrial and domestic wastes.
The purpose of this study lies in examining how knowledge management was applied to PMI(Post Merger Integration) in bank merger. Individuals and organizations in Korea have experienced a lot of changes since the 1997 foreign exchange crisis. In such a situation, individuals came to think the only thing to rely on was personal knowledge. Since organizations had to lay off workers in order of their birth year, not based on whether or not individuals had the knowledge necessary for the organizations, they needed to have such a system that could use their explicit knowledge and even outside knowledge or customers' knowledge as IT developed by changing individuals' tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge as needed in order to continue to maintain their competitiveness and for their own development. Thus, each firm started to pitch for the introduction of knowledge management. Individuals started to store their own experience and knowledge in their homepages or blogs. It was Woori Bank, the merged bank of Hanil Bank and Commercial Bank of Korea, that introduced the knowledge management system and Shared Service Center, in which knowledge creation is available, for the first time in the banking business. Its previous name was Hanbit Bank. Hanbit Bank wanted to construct an advanced bank system, bringing in their chief information officer(CIO) from a foreign bank and introducing an IT software used in Spanish banks to adjust all banking processes to it. However, they could not help giving up the plan in the middle of the road since there was a great difference between Spain and Korea in the financial system and more than 30% of software package had to be changed. In this situation, PMI was delayed, and customer inconvenience continued, which made the integration of organizational cultures slow down. As a breakthrough in this situation, knowledge management was introduced. To integrate knowledge of two organizations in the process of PMI is an important job for all merger candidates. This study aims at presenting the successful results from using knowledge management as a means to PMI ahead of other financial institutions so they can apply them to their organizations. PMI was not achieved properly after the two banks had been merged as Hanbit, but entering the era of Woori Bank, workers were integrated under one standard organization following the organizational and knowledge integration, and knowledge management was introduced for an efficient sharing of knowledge among members. A great number of mergers have occurred up to now, but Woori Bank is the first case that used knowledge management as a means to both PMI and competitiveness enhancement. Probably it was an appropriate time when Woori Bank introduced knowledge management as it was organized. Since Hanil Bank and Commercial Bank of Korea had not introduced knowledge management until then, it could use knowledge management as a means to PMI. Using knowledge management, it could create a new organizational culture and increase competitiveness in the banking industry.

This study has specified terminology for mountain ridgeline, and organized the present condition of Korean mountain ridgeline and empirical management measures of Beakdudeagan and Jeongmeak. Moreover, based on previously published paper maps, mountain map, and numerical maps, this study has used GIS to reorganize Jeongmaek of Korea, including Hanbukjeongmaek, Hannamjeongmaek, and Gumbukjoengmaek. To ensure accuracy, DEM, Shaded Relief Image, gradient, curvature, and aspect have been analyzed from recent numerical maps. On extraction process, this study analyzes more specifically the results, previous Beakdudaegan is modified and new Jeongmaeks have been extracted. Moreover, for analyzing natural environment of surrounding of major mountain ridgeline, ecological zoning grade of mountain ridgeline is analyzed. With the analyzed result, domestic and foreign mountain ridgeline management policy is suggested, and environmental impact assessment method for major mountain ridgeline development is also suggested. In this study, Baekdudaegan and its Jeongmaek are organized and analyzed. With the results, this study suggested political linkage of mountain ridgelines and guidelines for environmental impact assessment of ridgeline development.
Volcanic eruptions alone may lead to serious natural disasters, but the associated release of water from a caldera lake may be equally damaging. There is both historical and geological evidence of the past eruptions of Mt. Baekdusan, and the volcano, which has not erupted for over 100 years, has recently shown signs of reawakening. Action is required if we are to limit the social, political, cultural, and economic damage of any future eruption. This study aims to identify the area that would be inundated following a volcanic flood from the Cheon-Ji caldera lake that lies within Mt. Baekdusan. A scenario-based numerical analysis was performed to generate a flood hydrograph, and the parameters required were selected following a consideration of historical records from other volcanoes. The amount of water at the outer rim as a function of time was used as an upper boundary condition for the downstream routing process for a period of 10 days. Data from the USGS were used to generate a DEM with a resolution of 100 m, and remotely sensed satellite data from the moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) were used to show land cover and use. The simulation was generated using the software FLO-2D and was superposed on the remotely sensed map. The results show that the inundation area would cover about 80% of the urban area near Erdaobaihezhen assuming a 10 m/hr collapse rate, and 98% of the area would be flooded assuming a 100 m/hr collapse rate.
The Origin-Destination(OD) matrix is very important in describing transport movements in a region. The OD matrix can be estimated using traffic counts on links in the transport network and other available information. This information on the travel is often contained in a target OD matrix and traffic counts in links. To estimate an OD matrix from traffic counts, they are the major input data which obviously affects the accuracy of the OD matrix estimated, Generally, the quality of an estimated OD matrix depends much on the reliability of the input data, and the number and locations of traffic counting points in the network. Any Process regarding the traffic counts such as the amount and their location has to be carefully studied. The objective of this study is to select of the optimal location of traffic counting points for the OD matrix estimation. The model was tested in nationwide network. The network consists of 224 zones, 3,125 nodes and 6,725 links except to inner city road links. The OD matrix applied for selection of traffic counting points was estimated to 3-constrained entropy maximizing model. The results of this study follow that : the selected alternative to the best optimal counting points of six alternatives is the alternative using common links of OD matrix and vehicle-km and traffic density(13.0% of 6,725 links), however the worst alternative is alternative of all available traffic counting points(44.9% of 6,725 links) in the network. Finally, it should be concluded that the accuracy of reproduced OD matrix using traffic counts related much to the number of traffic counting points and locations.
The objective of this study is to describe the short-range forecast system of the Korea Air Force (KAF) and to verificate its performace in 2009 summer. The KAF weather prediction model system, based on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model (i.e., the KAF-WRF), is configured with a parent domain overs East Asia and two nested domains with the finest horizontal grid size of 2 km. Each domain covers the Korean peninsula and South Korea, respectively. The model is integrated for 84 hour 4 times a day with the initial and boundary conditions from National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) data. A quantitative verification system is constructed for the East Asia and Korean peninsula domains. Verification variables for the East Asia domain are 500 hPa temperature, wind and geopotential height fields, and the skill score is calculated using the difference between the analysis data from the NCEP GFS model and the forecast data of the KAF-WRF model results. Accuracy of precipitation for the Korean penisula domain is examined using the contingency table that is made of the KAF-WRF model results and the KMA (Korea Meteorological Administraion) AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data. Using the verification system, the operational model and parallel model with updated version of the WRF model and improved physics process are quantitatively evaluated for the 2009 summer. Over the East Aisa region, the parallel experimental model shows the better performance than the operation model. Errors of the experimental model in 500 hPa geopotential height near the Tibetan plateau are smaller than errors in the operational model. Over the Korean peninsula, verification of precipitation prediction skills shows that the performance of the operational model is better than that of the experimental one in simulating light precipitation. However, performance of experimental one is generally better than that of operational one, in prediction.

Acid-resistant poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membranes connected with ethylene and ether groups were prepared via a thermal crosslinking reaction by varying the ratio of PVA to ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE). The crosslinked membranes were characterized using FT-IR and swelling tests, respectively. Pervaporation behaviors with the PVA membranes were investigated for aqueous TFEA (2,2,2-trifluoroethanol) as a function of EGDE content and operating temperature. The pervaporation properties far MA (methacrylic acid)/water mixture were also carried out with the optimized PVA membrane. The PVA membranes prepared with EGDE showed more excellent acid-resistance than those crosslinked with gluaraldehyde. The membranes showed high permeation fluxes of 0.1 and $0.3\;km^2h$ and high separation factors of 100 and 900 in the $96\;wt\%$ TFEA and MA aqueous fred mixtures at high temperature above $80^{\circ}C$, respectively. These confirmed theses membranes could be used in esterification membrane reactor process for the production of 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmetacrylate (TFEMA).

In this study, to replace the 'J-slot joint', a joint device between a disposal canister and an emplacement jig in Deep Borehole Disposal process, a novel joint device was designed and tested. The novel joint device was composed of a wedge on top of a disposal canister and a hook box at the end of a winch system. The designed joint device had merits in that it can recombine an emplaced canister freely without the replacement of the joint component. Moreover, it can be applied to various emplacement jigs such as drill pipes, wire-lines, and coiled tubing. To demonstrate the designed joint device, the joint device (${\Phi}110mm$, H 148 mm), a twin canister string (${\Phi}140mm$, H 1,105 mm), and a water tube (${\Phi}150mm$, H 1,500 mm) as a borehole model were manufactured at 1/3 scale. As deployment muds, Na-type bentonite (MX-80) and Ca-type (GJ II) bentonite muds were prepared at solid contents of 7wt% and 28wt%, respectively. The manufactured joint device showed good performance in pure water and viscous muds, with an operation speed of $10m{\cdot}min^{-1}$. It was concluded that the newly developed joint device can be used for the emplacement and retrieval of a deep disposal canister, below 3~5 km, in the future.
