  • Isotianil is a novel fungicide which induces systemic acquired resistance in plants. It has excellent preventive effects as low dosages against rice blast which is one of the most serious diseases in rice. The Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of Isotianil in republic of korea was set to 0.1 mg/kg in rice, so it is necessary to determine levels of Isotianil residues in agricultural commodities for controlling food safety. Therefore, The purpose of this study was to develop analytical method for the determination of isotiical residues in agricultural commodities using GC-NPD/MSD. Isotianil was extracted with acetonitrile from apple, chinese cabbage, hulled rice, mandarin, pepper, and soybean. The extract was diluted with saline water, and then dichloromethane partition was followed to recover this fungcide from the aqueous phase. A solid phase extraction with Florisil cartridge was additionally employed for final clean up. Isotianil was analyzed and quantitated by GC-NPD and confirmed by GC-MSD. Average recovery of Isotianil ranged from 70.0 to 103.9% in six representative agricultural commodities with relative standard deviations less than 10%, and limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.05 mg/kg.

  • This study was carried out to compare the quality characteristics including aroma compounds and pattern of M. Biceps femoris from Korean native black pigs (70kg, 6 months, KNP) and modern genotype pigs (103kg, 6 months, Landrace×Yorkshire, MGP) during vacuum-storage at 2±0.2℃ for 12 days. KNP had high contents of crude protein and ash, but low content of moisture as compared to MGP (p<0.05). KNP showed lower pH and higher cooking loss than MGP (p<0.05) during storage. CIE a* and b* values of KNP significantly higher during storage as compared to those of MGP (p<0.05). TBARS value of KNP significantly increased after 8 days as compared to that of MGP (p<0.05). Shear force value of KNP was higher than that of MGP until 8 days (p<0.05). Volatiles by SPME-GS/MS was slightly different between KNP and MGP, but aroma pattern by electronic nose was not different. Therefore, KNP had redder and darker color, higher cooking loss and harder texture than MGP. The sensory quality of KNP was better than those of MGP (p<0.05), although aroma characteristics by instruments were not different between KNP and MGP.

  • This study was carried out to develop an accurate and rapid analysis method to measure the contents of iodide and chloride in infant formula using an ion selectivity electrode. The infant formula SRM 1846 (Standard Reference Material 1846, NIST, USA) was used as a CRM (Certified reference material). Samples were dissolved in water with 3% acetic acid and filtered through filter paper and adjusted to pH 7.0 with 0.1N NaOH. At pH 7.0, the iodide content of the CRM was $1.04{\pm}0.03\;mg/kg$ compared to the specification of $1.11{\pm}0.1\;mg/kg$ of CRM, and the recovery was $93.7{\pm}2.7%$. The chloride content was $5114.3{\pm}240\;mg/kg$ compared to the specification of $4,920{\pm}300mg/kg$ of CRM, and the recovery was $103.9{\pm}4.9%$. Ion selectivity electrodes could be successful1y used to determine the concentration of iodide and chloride ions in infant formula by a simple and rapid pretreatment of sample matrixes.

  • The seasonal variations of chemical composition of jujuba leaf were studied by analyzing general composition, amino acid composition, fatty acid composition, mineral, phenol, condensed tannin, flavonoid contents. Fresh jujuba leaf contained 4.42~6.31% protein and 4.31~5.71% fat on wet basis. Jujuba leaf was rich in aspartic acid, glutamic acid and leucine, but methionine was a limiting amino acid. Four kinds of free sugar, i.e. glucose, fructose, sucrose and maltose were found in jujuba leaf. The contents of fructose and glucose increased during growth, while the contents of disaccharides, sucrose and maltose, decreased. The main fatty acids of the leaf were palmitic acid, linoleic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid. Jujuba leaf was rich in K, Na and Ca, however, the amounts of Fe, Mn and Cu were low. The contents of Ca and Na increased during growth but the content of Mg decreased. The content of total phenolic compound was 0.83~0.89% and the content of condensed tannin was 0.40~0.45%. Two major flavonoids such as rutin and isoquercitrin were detected and their contents were 103.8~125.2mg/kg and 26.2~40.0mg/kg, respectively.
