A STUDAY ON THE ROOT CANAL MORPHOLOGY OF HUMAN MANDIBULAR SECOND MOLAR WITH TRANSPARENT SPECIMENS (투명표본(透明標本)에 의(依)한 하악제2구치(下顎第二臼齒)의 근관형태(根管形態)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Fifty two human mandibular second molars were chosen to study the anatomy of the root canal. The experimental teeth were injected with china ink, decalcified, cleared and used in study, in vitro, to determine the number of root, the number of root canals, canals per root, frequency and location of transverse anastomoses, frequency and location of lateral canals and frequency of the apical deltas. The results were as follows; 1. Most of the teeth showed three canals, but 19.2% of the teeth were found to have two canals and 9.6% of them four canals. 2. In so far as observing two canals per root, 80.8% of the teeth were found to have two canals in mesial root and 9.6% of them in distal canal. 3. In roots with, two canals, the seperated apical foramen appeared in 59.5% in mesial side and 40.0% in distal side, and the common apical foramen appeared in 40.5% in mesial side and 60.0% in distal side. 4. Of the two root canals in one root, 36.2% of the canals were found to have transverse anastomoses and were usually located in the apical third of the root. 5. 23.1% of 52 teeth were found to have lateral canals, and ramifications were mainly located in the apical third of the root.

The Analysis of the Transportation Process of Mokpo Port (목포항 운송과정의 분석)

  • Korean economic and industrial structure has been seperated into some areas with the trend of the change to the bloc system of international economy: the Gyeongin including the capital area, the Middle-West, the South-West, the South-East, and the Eastern sea areas. Mokpo port has played a major role as the central one of the South-West area and the entrance of Yeong-san river of Jeonnam province gate. Some studies has been done on the Mokpo port, but there is no research of the analytical approach about it. In this paper, we analyze the data of 1994's on the domestic and oceangoing piers in the Mokpo port and simulate the transportation process of it through a queueing model. The results of the simulation are summarized as follows: The average arrival interval of the domestic vessel is 6.034 hours. The average service time and the berth utility rate are 24.056 hours and over 100%, respectively. The average arrival interval of the oceangoing vessel is 34.48 hours. The average service time and the berth utility rate are 120.04 hours and the 34.91%, respectively. The proposal to improving of the Mokpo port as follows: It is desirable to extend the capacity of domestic pier to about 50% for the optimal utility rate of 70% and in the case of oceangoing pier to be increase 65% of the vessel capacity for the optimal utility rate of 70%.

  • Worldwide, the building energy simulation becomes inevitable step for predicting the energy consumption in building. In simulation process, the expertise is required for the accurate analysis results. In Korea, however, most of user use the inconsistent data with Korea circumstance. In this step, we need to construct the standard input data matched building in Korea. In this study, electricity consumption of apartments in Daejeon is analyzed. The yearly data of a apartment complexes of 2009 are analyzed as monthly, daily(week and weekend), timely, and completion year. With this result, we are able to predict the demand pattern of electricity in a house and make the schedule by demand pattern. The results of this study are followed. The averaged amount of electricity consumption in winter is higher than summer because of the high capacity of heating equipment. All of the house has electric base load from 0.26kWh to 0.5kWh. The average of the electricity consumption of month is shown as 326.7kWh. A week is seperated as 4 part such as week, weekend, Saturday and Sunday. During week, the average of timely electricity consumption is shown as 0.442kWh. The Saturday consumption is 0.453kWh. The Sunday is 0.461kWh.

  • Two types of immunoloigcal probes, anti-ABBP Abs, have been developed. The purified ABBP from ABA-C1-BSA-sepharose 4B column was identified by PAGE and appeared in one band of about 56KD, as well as showed a specific binding ability and a high affinity for ABA (Kd2.0$\times$10-9 mol/L). Unexpectedly, the existence of rRNA with a length of around 300 nucleotides could be found, when the ABBP was digested with proteinase K and identified by eletrophorsis on an agarose gel (1%). As a result, about 120 cDNA clones coding maize 17s RNA and only one cDNA clone coding ABBP (24cDNA) were obtained from 200,000 seperated phage plaques by the anti-ABBP pAbs. 24cDNA had 1075bp and contained an open reading frame coding 254 amino acids. The anti-idiotypic Ab raised against an ABA MAb showed the ability of either mimicking ABA or competing with ABA. The localization of ABBPs in plant cell was investigated.

  • This study is to analysis the characteristics of electric power consumption of apartments complex in Korea. This study shows the pattern of electric power consumption and correlation of each apartment complex's completion year monthly and timely. With this result, we are able to predict the demand pattern of electricity in a house and make the schedule by demand pattern. It is expected this data is used as reference of electric consumption of Daejeon area to operate the simulation tools to predict the building energy. The yearly data of 10 apartment complexes of 2010 are analyzed. The results of this study are followed. The averaged amount of electricity consumption in winter is higher as summer because of the high capacity of heating equipment. All of the house has electric base load from 0.26kWh to 0.5kWh. The average of the electricity consumption of month is shown as 310.2kWh. A week is seperated, as 4 part such as week, weekend, Saturday and Sunday. During week, the average of timely electricity consumption is shown as 0.426kWh. The Saturday consumption is 0.437kWh. The Sunday is 0.445kWh. The peak electricity consumption in summer and winter is measured. The peak consumption on summer season is 1.389kW on 22th August 64% higher than winter season 0.887kW on 3rd January.

Effects of Bombycis corpus on Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats (Streptozotocin으로 유발된 당뇨쥐에 대한 백강잠(白?蠶)의 혈당 및 당대사 효소활성에 관한 효과)

  • Objective : This study was undertaken to investigate how Bombycis corpus (BC) effects the development and progress of complications occurring in Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Methods : Laboratory rats were seperated into three groups; normal, rats with DM and treated with BC, and rats with DM and not treated. In this study DM was experimentally induced through injection of streptozotocin. The BC treated group was given BC extract p.o. for 15 days. Then, The activities of glucose phosphatic enzymes and polyol pathway channels were observed. Results : The blood glucose level greatly increased in the DM groups after injection of streptoztocin, but it significantly decreased in the BC treated group. Significantly enhanced levels of serum insulin levels were seen in the BC treated group, while supressed levels were seen in the untreated DM group. Weight was recovered by the BC treated group, matching the normal group. Decreased enzyme activity of aldose reductase, sorbitol dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphatase were seen in BC treated diabetic rats. Increased enzyme activity, of the glucokinase and hexokinase were seen in BC treated diabetic rats. Conclusions : This study suggests that BC normalized the blood glucose and serum insulin levels destablized by DM. Because increased activity of glucose phosphatic enzymes, glucokinase and hexokinase, and decreased glucose-6-phosphatase activity, and suppression of polyol pathway enzymes, aldose reductase and sorbitol dehydrogenase, were all seen, these observations suggest that BC suppresses blood glucose levels and prevents complications due to DM.

  • We analyzed the research type and statistical methods in Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology for describing the trends of Oriental medicine research. The data for the analysis of trends in Oriental medicine research was taken from a total 808 articles published in Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology from 2004 to 2006. We surveyed the number of authors, the institutes involved in each study, and used languages in each study. Also we seperated by epidemiological study design, the studies into categories and statistical methods into 13 categories. Results showed that descriptive statistics was used in 125(14.4%) papers. Also t-test, analysis of variance, multiple comparison, chi-square test, and non-parametric test were used in 338(38.9%), 147(16.9%), 81(9.3%), 27(3.1%), 23(2.6%) papers, respectively. And 62(7.1%) papers of the involved papers didn't use statistical methods. To improve the quality of Oriental medicine related articles, we have to use proper statistical methods with consultation of statistician or other experts before accepting a manuscript are needed.

  • In this research we proceeded experiments to find the basis which make it possible to explain the physical and pathological process of Sasang constitutional medicine, in the way substituting hematopoietic-immune system(essence of life, blood, Ki and mental faculties : 精血氣神) Under these suppositions, the essence of life(精) is the multipotent stem cell which has the possibility to be specialized to any cell, the Ki(氣), blood(血) and mental faculties(神) are inferred that they are formed from specialized the essence of life(精), the blood(血) is the red blood cells and etc. that appears as the result of the genesis of circulation system. The Ki(氣) is from specialized basic immunity, the mental faculties(神) means long-term memories or combined immunity. Cytokines can act as specilaizing, growing factors and particiate in extremly combined procedure being controlled by both positive and negative specializing signals. Blood gathering was carried out in the morning and on empty stomach. The plasma was seperated and Erythropoietin, Stem cell factor, Granulocyte-colony stimulaing factor, Tumor necrosis factor, interlukin-3, Interleukin-6 were measured with ELISA kit. According to the result of post analysis by Duncan, each constitution is different in SCF(stem cell factor), IL-6(interleukin-6), EPO(erythropoietin). The value of Stem cell factor is high in order of Soumin(少陰人), Soyangin(少陽人), and Taeumin(太陰人), The value of interleukin-6 is high in Taeumin, Soumin, and Soyangin. Erythropoietin is high in order of Soumin, Soyangin, and Taeumin.

  • To establish the effective ways to prevent bovine mastitis, the study has been performed to investigate the attributable factors causing down-regulation of immune responses in mammary gland of non-lactating cows. Lymphocytes from peripheral blood and mammary gland secretions(MGS) were obtained from normal healthy cows and mastitic cows, respectively. Lymphoblastogenesis were investigated carefully by adding different concentrations of supernatants collected from pure-cultures of neutrophils seperated from peripheral blood and MGS, respectively. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. Lymphoblastogenesis activity stimulated by Con A, PWM and PHA were significantly reduced in MGS from mastitic cows. 2. Supernatants collected from pure-culture of neutrophils separated both from peripheral blood and MGS showed inhibitory effect on mitogenic lymphoblastogenesis. 3. Supernatants from mammary gland neutrophils have shown 7 times more inhibitory activity than those from peripheral blood and this inhibitory effect was increased in proportion to increasing concentrations of supernatants when those were added to lymphoblast cells in culture.

Intracorporeal reduction of condylar fracture using both pedicled condylar and seperated ramal fragments after vertical ramal osteotomy

  • The aim of this study is to introduce a surgical technique that can maintain blood supply to prevent condylar resorption in the extracorporeal reduction of condylar fracture. Neither the medial pterygoid muscle on the ramal bone nor the lateral pterygoid muscle on the condylar fragment was detached after vertical ramal osteotomy. Thus, reduction was performed in the intracorporeal state. Therefore, blood supply was expected to be maintained to the fragments of both the condylar and ramal bones. On postoperative radiographs, the anatomical outline of the fractured condyle was well restored, and the occlusion was stable. In the unilateral case, there were no signs of mandibular condylar resorption until postoperative 3 weeks. In the 2 bilateral cases, condylar displacements with plate fractures and screw loosening were observed at postoperative 1 month or 5 months, but radiodensity at the displaced fracture site increased during the follow-up period. Finally, complete remodeling of the condylar fragments with restored anatomic appearance was observed on 8-month or 2-year follow-up radiographs. All cases exhibited good healing aspects with no signs or symptoms of mandibular condylar dysfunction during the postoperative remodeling period after intracorporeal reduction of condylar fracture.
