There are many data mining techniques such as association rule, decision tree, neural network analysis, clustering, genetic algorithm, bayesian network, memory-based reasoning, etc. We analyze 2003 Gyeongnam social indicator survey data using k-means clustering technique for environmental information. Clustering is the process of grouping the data into clusters so that objects within a cluster have high similarity in comparison to one another. In this paper, we used k-means clustering of several clustering techniques. The k-means clustering is classified as a partitional clustering method. We can apply k-means clustering outputs to environmental preservation and environmental improvement.
The techniques to recycle and reuse plastics attract public attention. These public attraction and needs result in improving the recycling technique. However, the identification technique for black plastic wastes still have big problem that the spectrum extracted from near infrared radiation spectroscopy is not clear and is contaminated by noise. To overcome this problem, we apply Raman spectroscopy to extract a clear spectrum of plastic material. In addition, to improve the classification ability of fuzzy Radial Basis Function Neural Networks, we apply supervised learning based clustering method instead of unsupervised clustering method. The conditional fuzzy C-Means clustering method, which is a kind of supervised learning based clustering algorithms, is used to determine the location of radial basis functions. The conditional fuzzy C-Means clustering analyzes the data distribution over input space under the supervision of auxiliary information. The auxiliary information is defined by using k Nearest Neighbor approach.
As the size of data increases, it becomes important to identify properties by analyzing big data. In this paper, we propose a k-Means based efficient clustering technique, called MCSKMeans (Multi centroid set k-Means), using distributed parallel processing framework MapReduce. A problem with the k-Means algorithm is that the accuracy of clustering depends on initial centroids created randomly. To alleviate this problem, the MCSK-Means algorithm reduces the dependency of initial centroids using sets consisting of k centroids. In addition, we apply the agglomerative hierarchical clustering technique for creating k centroids from centroids in m centroid sets which are the results of the clustering phase. In this paper, we implemented our MCSK-Means based on the MapReduce framework for processing big data efficiently.
Collaborative filtering technique is a major method of recommender systems and has been successfully implemented and serviced in real commercial online systems. However, this technique has several inherent drawbacks, such as data sparsity, cold-start, and scalability problem. Clustering-based collaborative filtering has been studied in order to handle scalability problem. This study suggests a collaborative filtering system which utilizes genetic algorithms to improve shortcomings of K-means algorithm, one of the widely used clustering techniques. Moreover, different from the previous studies that have targeted for optimized clustering results, the proposed method targets the optimization of performance of the collaborative filtering system using the clustering results, which practically can enhance the system performance.

This paper introduces a mixture of background subtraction technique and K-Means clustering algorithm for removing shadows from video sequences. Lighting conditions cause an issue with segmentation. The proposed method can successfully eradicate artifacts associated with lighting changes such as highlight and reflection, and cast shadows of moving object from segmentation. In this paper, K-Means clustering algorithm is applied to the foreground, which is initially fragmented by background subtraction technique. The estimated shadow region is then superimposed on the background to eliminate the effects that cause redundancy in object detection. Simulation results depict that the proposed approach is capable of removing shadows and reflections from moving objects with an accuracy of more than 95% in every cases considered.

Aggressive driving is a major cause of car accidents. Previous studies have mainly analyzed young driver's aggressive driving tendency, yet they were only done through pure clustering or classification technique of machine learning. However, since elderly people have different driving habits due to their fragile physical conditions, it is necessary to develop a new method such as enhancing the characteristics of driving data to properly analyze aggressive driving of elderly drivers. In this study, acceleration data collected from a smartphone of a driving vehicle is analyzed by a newly proposed ECA(Enhanced Clustering method for Acceleration data) technique, coupled with a conventional clustering technique (K-means Clustering, Expectation-maximization algorithm). ECA selects high-intensity data among the data of the cluster group detected through K-means and EM in all of the subjects' data and models the characteristic data through the scaled value. Using this method, the aggressive driving data of all youth and elderly experiment participants were collected, unlike the pure clustering method. We further found that the K-means clustering has higher detection efficiency than EM method. Also, the results of K-means clustering demonstrate that a young driver has a driving strength 1.29 times higher than that of an elderly driver. In conclusion, the proposed method of our research is able to detect aggressive driving maneuvers from data of the elderly having low operating intensity. The proposed method is able to construct a customized safe driving system for the elderly driver. In the future, it will be possible to detect abnormal driving conditions and to use the collected data for early warning to drivers.

Data clustering determines a group of patterns using similarity measure in a dataset and is one of the most important and difficult technique in data mining. Clustering can be formally considered as a particular kind of NP-hard grouping problem. K-means algorithm which is popular and efficient, is sensitive for initialization and has the possibility to be stuck in local optimum because of hill climbing clustering method. This method is also not computationally feasible in practice, especially for large datasets and large number of clusters. Therefore, we need a robust and efficient clustering algorithm to find the global optimum (not local optimum) especially when much data is collected from many IoT (Internet of Things) devices in these days. The objective of this paper is to propose new Hybrid Simulated Annealing (HSA) which is combined simulated annealing with K-means for non-hierarchical clustering of big data. Simulated annealing (SA) is useful for diversified search in large search space and K-means is useful for converged search in predetermined search space. Our proposed method can balance the intensification and diversification to find the global optimal solution in big data clustering. The performance of HSA is validated using Iris, Wine, Glass, and Vowel UCI machine learning repository datasets comparing to previous studies by experiment and analysis. Our proposed KSAK (K-means+SA+K-means) and SAK (SA+K-means) are better than KSA(K-means+SA), SA, and K-means in our simulations. Our method has significantly improved accuracy and efficiency to find the global optimal data clustering solution for complex, real time, and costly data mining process.

Technology is progressing with every passing day and the enormous usage of electricity is becoming a necessity. One of the techniques to enjoy the assistances in a smart home is the efficiency to manage the electric energy. When electric energy is managed in an appropriate way, it drastically saves sufficient power even to be spent during hard time as when hit by natural calamities. To accomplish this, prediction of energy consumption plays a very important role. This proposed prediction model Coherent Weighted K-Means Clustering ARIMA (CWKMCA) enhances the weighted k-means clustering technique by adding weights to the cluster points. Forecasting is done using the ARIMA model based on the centroid of the clusters produced. The dataset for this proposed work is taken from the Pecan Project in Texas, USA. The level of accuracy of this model is compared with the traditional ARIMA model and the Weighted K-Means Clustering ARIMA Model. When predicting, errors such as RMSE, MAPE, AIC and AICC are analysed, the results of this suggested work reveal lower values than the ARIMA and Weighted K-Means Clustering ARIMA models. This model also has a greater loglikelihood, demonstrating that this model outperforms the ARIMA model for time series forecasting.

In this paper, we propose the ensemble-based classification model which extracts just new data patterns from the streaming-data by using clustering and generates new classification models to be added to the ensemble in order to reduce the number of data labeling while it keeps the accuracy of the existing system. The proposed technique performs clustering of similar patterned data from streaming data. It performs the data labeling to each cluster at the point when a certain amount of data has been gathered. The proposed technique applies the K-NN technique to the classification model unit in order to keep the accuracy of the existing system while it uses a small amount of data. The proposed technique is efficient as using about 3% less data comparing with the existing technique as shown the simulation results for benchmarks, thereby using clustering.

The amount of information is increasing rapidly with the development of the internet and the computer. Since these enormous information is managed by the document forms, it is necessary to search and process them efficiently. The document clustering technique which clusters the related documents through the similarity between the documents help to classify, search, and process the large amount of documents automatically. This paper proposes a method to find the initial seed points through principal component analysis when the documents represented by vectors in the feature vector space are clustered by K-means algorithm in order to increase clustering performance. The experiment shows that our method has a better performance than the traditional K-means algorithm.
