An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effects of pebble size on the small-scale sewage treatment apparatus by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic plot. pH and EC in both plots varied minimally regardless of pebble size. DO in aerobic plot increased as the pebble size decreased. That in the anaerobic plot was slightly less in comparison with that of the aerobic plot but varied minimally, $2.4{\sim}5.1\;mg/L$ regardless of pebble size. Under all experimental conditions, removals of BOD, COD and turbidity in anaerobic plot were more than 98, 91 and 98, 98% respectively. Removals of T-N and T-P increased as pebble size decreased. Under all experimental conditions, removals of T-N and T-P in anaerobic plot were about $45{\sim}59$ and $480{\sim}96%$, respectively. Judging from the above results, it should be considered that the optimum pebble size and pebble permeability in both plot was $2{\sim}4$ and $0.1{\sim}4\;mm$, respectively.
To investigate the distribution of Plantago asiatica Linne, almost, restricted on the road-side, the plant growth analyzed by experimental cultivation under the condition of tread-pressure; 10 times/day (7.33kg/$cm^2$
), 20 times/day (12.27kg/$cm^2$), 30 times/day (20.05kg/$cm^2$
) and the control plot (1.68kg/$cm^2$
). The matter production in the 10-time-per-diem plot (7.33kg/$cm^2$
) of tread-pressure howed more large value than that inthe control one (1.68kg/$cm^2$
) and those in the 20-0time-per-diem plot (12.27kg/$cm^2$
) and the 30-time-per-diem one (20.05kg/$cm^2$
) small values than that of the control plot. Especially, the growth of roots and spikes was extremely repressed. The number of leaves, scapes and lateral buds tend to increase in the tread-pressure of 20 times/day (12.27kg/$cm^2$
) and 30 times/day (20.05kg/$cm^2$
). The water contents of roots along the increase of tread-pressure to continuosly decreased. By the increase of tread-pressure, T/R ratio and C/F ratio their group decreased. The plant growth (7.33kg/$cm^2$
) in the 10-time-per-diem plot increased more than that in the control one is regarded as the effect of tread-pressure affection on the road-side distribution of this plant.

The shortage of agricultural labour due to industrial growth has greatly induced the mechanization in Korean agriculture. However small and scattered land holdings have been the main constraints in the process of mechanization. This paper describes the interrelationships of farm land structure, machinery selection and machinery operation areas. The sandy silt loam irrigated paddy land having single crop a year was selected as a target areas for this study. Machine operation cost is greatly influenced by operation period, plot geometry and operation area. On the improved geometry plots, optimal machine size increases slowly with increase in operation area. Operable area increases due to increased effective machine capacity on better geometry plot. The difference between the effects of operation period and plot geometry is that in the former case, the cost reduction is caused by delay in increase of machine size, whereas in the latter case timeliness cost is reduced by increase ffective capacity. The effect of farmland consolidation is greater on small plots than that on big plots. Increasing wage rates have induced the adoption of more labor saving machinery. Bigger labor saving machines require enlargement of operation area and larger plots through improvement in farm land structure. Machine cost on poor plot geometry increases more rapidly than that on the good plot geometry and as operation area increases machine cost reduces significantly. It is concluded that the development of agricultural mechanization ion Korea will depend on the improvement in farm land structure and enlargement of operation area.
For the environmental protection, it is more desirable to use compost rather than chemical fertilizer. So in this paper, the effects of compost upon the rice quality were investigated with Hwajin Rice as the test variety. The rice quality and physicochemical characteristics were examined and the resrlts are as follows. As to the rice quality, the rate of polished rice was high in the non-fertilizer and the compost plot, the degree of transparency was high in the order of the traditional, the compost+urea, the compost and the non-fertilizer plot. The amylose content (one of the physicochemical characteristies of the rice), the rate of Mg/K, and the adhesivity and the cohesion power (charateristies of texturogram which show the density of boiled rice) were also high in the compost polt. Among the amylogram characteristics, the gelatinization temperature was lowest in the compost plot ; the lowest and the highest degree of viscosity and the break down were also inclined to be higher in the compost plot than in the traditional plot. After the soil test, the components of available phosphorus, organic matters, calcium, magnesium, potassinm and silicate increased in the soil as compared with those before test.
Percentage recovery or fertilizer nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium by rice plant(Oriza sativa L.) were investigated at 8, 10, 12, 14 kg/10a of N, 6 kg of $P_2O_5$ and 8 kg of $K_2O$ application level in 1967 (51 places) and 1968 (32 places). Two types of nutrient contribution for the yield, that is, P type in which phosphorus firstly increases silicate uptake and secondly silicate increases nitrogen uptake, and K type in which potassium firstly increases P uptake and secondly P increases nitrogen uptake were postulated according to the following results from the correlation analyses (linear) between percentage recovery of fertilizer nutrient and grain or dry matter yields and nutrient uptake. 1. Percentage frequency of minus or zero recovery occurrence was 4% in nitrogen, 48% in phosphorus and 38% in potassium. The frequency distribution of percentage recovery appeared as a normal distribution curve with maximum at 30 to 40 recovery class in nitrogen, but appeared as a show distribution with maximum at below zero class in phosphorus and potassium. 2. Percentage recovery (including only above zero) was 33 in N (above 10kg/10a), 27 in P, 40 in K in 1967 and 40 in N, 20 in P, 46 in Kin 1968. Mean percentage recovery of two years including zero for zero or below zero was 33 in N, 13 in P and 27 in K. 3. Standard deviation of percentage recovery was greater than percentage recovery in P and K and annual variation of CV (coefficient of variation) was greatest in P. 4. The frequency of significant correlation between percentage recovery and grain or dry matter yield was highest in N and lowest in P. Percentage recovery of nitrogen at 10 kg level has significant correlation only with percentage recovery of P in 1967 and only with that of potassium in 1968. 5. The correlation between percentage recovery and dry matter yield of all treatments showed only significant in P in 1967, and only significant in K in 1968, Negative correlation coefficients between percentage recovery and grain or dry matter yield of no or minus fertilizer plots were shown only in K in 1967 and only in P in 1968 indicating that phosphorus fertilizer gave a distinct positive role in 1967 but somewhat' negative role in 1968 while potassium fertilizer worked positively in 1968 but somewhat negatively in 1967. 6. The correlation between percentage recovery of nutrient and grain yield showed similar tendency as with dry matter yield but lower coefficients. Thus the role of nutrients was more precisely expressed through dry matter yield. 7. Percentage recovery of N very frequently had significant correlation with nitrogen uptake of nitrogen applied plot, and significant negative correlation with nitrogen uptake of minus nitrogen plot, and less frequently had significant correlation with P, K and Si uptake of nitrogen applied plot. 8. Percentage recovery of P had significant correlation with Si uptake of all treatments and with N uptake of all treatments except minus phosphorus plot in 1967 indicating that phosphorus application firstly increases Si uptake and secondly silicate increases nitrogen uptake. Percentage recovery of P also frequently had significant correlation with P or K uptake of nitrogen applied plot. 9. Percentage recovery of K had significant correlation with P uptake of all treatments, N uptake of all treatments except minus phosphorus plot, and significant negative correlation with K uptake of minus K plot and with Si uptake of no fertilizer plot or the highest N applied plot in 1968, and negative correlation coefficient with P uptake of no fertilizer or minus nutrient plot in 1967. Percentage recovery of K had higher correlation coefficients with dry matter yield or grain yield than with K uptake. The above facts suggest that K application firstly increases P uptake and secondly phosphorus increases nitrogen uptake for dry matter yied. 10. Percentage recovery of N had significant higher correlation coefficient with grain yield or dry matter yield of minus K plot than with those of minus phosphorus plot, and had higher with those of fertilizer plot than with those of minus K plot. Similar tendency was observed between N uptake and percentage recovery of N among the above treatments. Percentage recovery of K had negative correlation coefficient with grain or-dry matter yield of no fertilizer plot or minus nutrient plot. These facts reveal that phosphorus increases nitrogen uptake and when phosphorus or nitrogen is insufficient potassium competatively inhibits nitrogen uptake. 11. Percentage recovery of N, Pand K had significant negative correlation with relative dry matter yield of minus phosphorus plot (yield of minus plot x 100/yield of complete plot; in 1967 and with relative grain yield of minus K plot in 1968. These results suggest that phosphorus affects tillering or vegetative phase more while potassium affects grain formation or Reproductive phase more, and that clearly show the annual difference of P and K fertilizer effect according to the weather. 12. The correlation between percentage recovery of fertilizer and the relative yield of minus nutrient plat or that of no fertilizer plot to that of minus nutrient plot indicated that nitrogen is the most effective factor for the production even in the minus P or K plot. 13. From the above facts it could be concluded that about 40 to 50 percen of paddy fields do rot require P or K fertilizer and even in the case of need the application amount should be greatly different according to field and weather of the year, especially in phosphorus.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of planting date and planting density on yield and yield components of Fritillariae bulbus from 1989 to 1991. The Chungbuk local variety was used, and the experimental materials were planted six times with 10 days interval from Aug. 20 to Oct. 10. 33, 22, 17 and 13 bulbs were planted by the square meter, respectively. The compound fertilizer for garlic $(N\;-\;P_2O\;-\;K_2O_5=9\;-\;14\;-\;10)$ was applied by 80kgs to the 0.1ha before planting. The experimental design was randomized block design with 3 replications. As the planting dates were earlier, the emerging dates were earlier, too. But the delay of 50 days in the planting affected to the delay of 14 days in the emerging dates. The plant height was 22.7cms in the Aug. 20 plot. As the planting were later, the plant heights were shorter by $2.4{\sim}5.6cms$ than that. As compared with the 829kgs by the 0.1ha of Aug. 30 plot, the others recorded 1 percent increase in the Aug. 20 plot, 4 percent decrease in the Sep. 10 plot, 26 percent decrease in the Sep. 20 plot, 35 percent decrease in the Sep 30 plot, and 38 percent decrease in the Oct. 10 plot. So, the suitable planting dates were from Aug. 20 to Aug. 30.The emerging date of 33 bulb plot by the square meter was March 7, but as the planting densities were sparse, the emerging dates delayed by one to three days. The plant height of the 33 bulb plot by the square meter was 21. 8cms, but the other plots were short by $0.7{\sim}1.8cms$. The number of shoots of the 33 bulb plot by the square meter was 6.1. but the other plots recorded 0.4 increase in the 22 bulb plot, 0.6 increase in the 17 bulb plot and 0.5 increase in the 13 bulb plot compared with that of the 33 bulb plot. Accordingly, the number of shoots in the sparse planting plot was more than that in the dense planting plot. As compared with the 854kgs by the 0.1ha of the 22 bulb plot, the other plots recored 2 percent increase in the 33 bulb plot, 16 percent decrease in the 17 bulb plot and 34 percent decrease in the 13 bulb plot. All things considered, for the culture of Fritillaria thungergii MIQUEL in the middle region, Aug. 25 and 22 bulbs by the square meter were suitable for the planting date and density.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the growth responses of zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) as affected by prohexadione-calcium foliar application for the effective labour saving and cost down management in the lawn yard, field and golf course etc. The leaf growth of zoysiagrass treated with prohexadione-calcium one day after mowing was significantly slow compared to the untreated plot. And the effect was continued up to 50 days. The growth inhibition rate at the treated plot was 46 to 50% compared to untreated plot and the leaf widths treated with prohexadione-calcium were narrower than control plot. The change of leaf dry weight 10 days after prohexadione-calcium treated was significantly shown less speedy than untrated plot and the results were continued up to 40 days after application. The SPAD values of the leaf colour were increased in the treated plots and continued for 40 days more.
A kinetic study is reported for the SNAr reaction of 1-Y-substituted-phenoxy-2,4-dinitrobenzenes (1a-1h) with OH- in 80 mol % $H_2O$/20 mol % DMSO at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. The second-order rate constant ($k_{OH^-}$) increases as the substituent Y in the leaving group changes from an electron-donating group (EDG) to an electronwithdrawing group (EWG). The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 1a-1h is linear with ${\beta}_{lg}$ = -0.16, indicating that the reactivity of substrates 1a-1h is little affected by the leaving-group basicity. A linear Br${\o}$nsted-type plot with ${\beta}_{lg}=-0.3{\pm}0.1$ is typical for reactions reported previously to proceed through a stepwise mechanism in which formation of a Meisenheimer complex is the rate-determining step (RDS). The Hammett plot correlated with ${\sigma}_Y{^{\circ}}$ constants results in a much better correlation than that correlated with ${\sigma}_Y{^-}$constants, implyng that no negative charge is developing on the O atom of the leaving group (or expulsion of the leaving group is not advanced at all in the TS). This excludes a possibility that the $S_NAr$ reaction of 1a-1h with $OH^-$ proceeds through a concerted mechanism or via a stepwise pathway with expulsion of the leaving group being the RDS. Thus, the current reactions have been concluded to proceed through a stepwise mechanism in which expulsion of the leaving group occurs rapidly after the RDS.
Soil microbes are widely well known to play an important role for sustainable agriculture in terms of crop healthy cultivation and environmental conservation. In this context, the distributional characteristics of soil microbes according to cropping systems were investigated under rice (R)-rice (R), rice (R)-barley (B)-rice (R), and soybean (S)-barley (B)-soybean (S) cropping condition to get basic informations for sustainable agriculture, where barley was grown for winter, in mid-mountainous loam paddy located at the altitude of 285 m above sea level in Sangju area from 2014 to 2015. Estimating from microbial communities by fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) method, a total biomass of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi in R-B-R plot was 37% and 40% higher than that in S-B-S and R-R plots, respectively (p < 0.05). In especial, bacteria and fungi were more in R-B-R plot than those in any other ones. B. japonicum, AMF, and mesophilic Bacillus sp. were also greater in S-B-S plot than those. In the community distribution, however, bacteria and actinomycetes showed comparatively high values in S-B-S plot relative to either R-R or R-B-R plot including rice, in which fungi outstanding. In the correlation between microbial biomass and soil properties changed by the cropping, bacteria was positively correlated with C:N ratio; actinomycetes with exchangeable Ca; fungi with available $P_2O_5$ (p < 0.05). While these microbes showed negative response to water stable aggregates of soil.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of various composts and NPK fertilization rates on the growth of yacon (Polymnia sonchifolia POEPP). Fertilization of used soil was low. Mean temperature of July was higher than that of normal year, but those of another months were same or the lower. The yield of the no-compost plot was higher by 74% than the no-fertilization plot. Increased NPK fertilization rates of bark compost and organic fertilizer plots increased the growth and yield of yacon. The yield of bark compost 1.5 times plot was highest by 6,905 ㎏/10a. The chemical contents of leaves in the various compost and NPK fertilization rates were not normal tendency, and also that of no-compost plot was not difference to the NPK fertilization rates plot.
