Water Saving Irrigation Point in Cucumber Cultivation under Greenhouse (시설재배 오이의 물 절약 관개시점 구명)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of irrigation points on cucumber growth and water saving under greenhouse. Automatic irrigation system and tensiometers were installed at four plots to measure soil water tension and properties of irrigated water. Each plot was irrigated at different irrigation points; soil water tension of 15, 20, 30, and 40 kPa, respectively. Conventional irrigation plot without tensiometer was also investigated. The total yield and sugar contents of cucumber had no significant differences between plots. However, irrigated water volumes were saved most when irrigation points were 30, and 40 kPa. The two plots of 30, and 40 kPa treatments used about 60% less of irrigated water than the plot of conventional practice did. In conclusion, this research suggested that the optimum irrigation point for cucumber cultivation in greenhouse can be soil water tension of 30 kPa based on the results of overall cucumber quality, and Greenhouse water usage.

Gelatinases of Extracellular Matrix of Human Oocyte-Cumulus Complex (사람 난자-난구 복합체 ECM의 Gelatinase)

  • When mammalian oocytes undergo maturation, cumulus cells surrounding the oocyte exhibit remodeling of their structure known as cumulus expansion. Many molecules including hyaluronic acid participate in this remodeling. The present study aimed to investigate a possible existence of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) in the extracellular matrix(ECM) of human oocyte-cumulus complex. ECM was extracted from the human oocyte-cumulus complex. Gelatin gel zymogram of ECM exhibited 7 gelatinases having molecular weight of 300kDa, 240kDa, 200kDa, 180kDa, 116kDa, 97kDa, and 84kDa. This gelatinase profile was very different from that of ovarian mural granulosa cell extract or white blood cell extract, indicating that the oocyte-cumulus complex donating ECM was free from other than cumulus cells. When ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or 1', 10'-phenanthroline was added to the reaction buffer during zymographic development, almost gelatinase activities were abolished, suggesting that they were MMPs. Following incubation of ECM in the presence of aminophenylmercuric acetate, an activator of proMMPs, 4 gelatinases of 240kDa, 180kDa, 97kDa, and 84kDa disappeared with the concomitant appearance of 80kDa, 65kDa, and 60kDa gelatinases. Based upon these observation, it is suggested that ECM of the human oocyte-cumulus complex consists of gelatinases, presumed to be MMP-2 and MMP-9 isoforms.

Heat Inactivation of Proteolytic Enzymes in Papaya Latex (Papaya Latex에 있는 단백질분해효소(蛋白質分解酪素)들의 열불활성(熱不活性)에 관하여)

  • Proteases from papaya latex were partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and separated into two fractions (Fraction I and II ) by carboxymethyl cellelose column chromatography. Each fraction, mixture of the two fractions, and crude extract of the papaya latex at pH 7.0 were inactivated at the range of $60{\sim}90^{\circ}C$ and thermal properties of the enzymes were investigated. In the thermal inactivation of fraction I, the enthalpy of activation was 89.5 kJ/mol; the entropy of activation, -44.0 J/mol K; the free energy of activation, 104.6 kJ/mol; z-value, $25^{\circ}C$. For fraction II, the enthalpy of activation was 96.5 kJ,/mol; the entropy of activation, -22.0 J/mol K; the free energy of activation, 104.0 kJ/mol; z-value, $23^{\circ}C$. For the mixture of fraction I and II, the enthalpy of activation was 90.9 kJ/mol; the entropy of activation, -38.8 J/mol·K; the free energy of activation, 104.2 kJ/mol; z-value, $24.6^{\circ}C$. For crude extract, the enthalpy of activation was 113.8 kJ/mol; the entropy of activation, 22.0 J/mol·K; the free energy of activation, 106.2 kJ/mol; z-value, $23.2^{\circ}C$. It was indicated that the fraction I was more heat-stable than the fraction II and this suggested that the thermal stability of the proteases in papaya latex is probably due to the fraction I.

Pathogenicity of Entomopathogenic Nematodes to Popillia quadriguttata(Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) Adult (녹색콩풍뎅이(Popillia quadriguttata) 성충에 대한 곤충병원성선충의 병원성)

  • Three Korean isolates of entomopathogenic nematodes, Steinernema carpocapsae KCTC 0981BP (ScK), S. glaseri Dongrae (SgD), and Heterorhabditis sp. KCTC 0991BP (HsK), were evaluated for the control of a turfgrass pest, Popillia quadriguttata. Three days after treatment, all nematodes showed high pathogenicity to adult P. quadriguttata with $97.5\%$ mortality by ScK, $90.8\%$ by HsK, and $80\%$ by SgD at the concentration of 900 infective juveniles per adult. Nematode attachment and infection rate to adult P. quadriguttata were various depending on nematode species and inoculation density. The rate of nematode attachment was $90.8\%$ in HsK, $90.6\%$ in SgD, and $35\%$ in ScK, resfectively at the concentration of 900 infective juveniles per adult. The infection rate that represents the rate of detected nematode from inside insect of body was $97.5\%$ in ScK, $ 80\%$ in both HsK and SgD at the 900 concentration of infected juveniles. The infection rate, however, was decreased to $27.5\%$ in ScK, $72.5\%$ in SgD, but no nematodes was detected in HsK at the concentration of 90 infective juveniles.

  • K-POP plays a key role in the Korean Wave and is becoming more popular over time. In K-POP, K-POP dance plays an important role in increasing public interest and support and reflects the taste of the audience according to the rapidly changing times. In addition, it has a variety of unique choreography forms, such as point choreography and dance that is perfectly in sync associated with the lyrics of the song, so it has sufficient possibility to raise its status independently. In order to examine the fact that K-POP dance is not an element included in K-POP, this researcher tried to investigate the case of interest in -K-POP dance in various ways and to clarify the meaning of the existence of K-POP dance once again. K-POP dance is gaining international interest and support through the mass media through various examples, raising the awareness of choreographers. In addition, created the integration of various races and ages. It also continues to help the country's economic growth while expanding to education. It also serves as a cultural notification in that it promotes Korean culture and manners along with -K-POP dance. However, this researcher emphasizes that for the continuous growth and independence of K-POP dance in the future, a program to cultivate systematic educators are needed, and the efforts of K-POP dance educators and choreographers are needed accordingly.

  • In this paper we propose a new family of nonlinear binary sequences generated by $m$-sequences for decimations $d=2^{k-1}(2^{s+1}-2^k+2^{k(i+1)}-2^{ki}-1)/(2^s-1)$ where $n=2k$, $i$ is odd and $s$ is such that $2s$ divides $k$. And we analyze the cross-correlation function between two $m$-sequences for new decimations $d$. Proposed sequences is extension of Rosendahl's sequnces and Dobbertin's sequences.

  • Prediction of fatigue duration is attainable from the analysis of the growth rate of the fatigue crack, and the property of the fatigue crack growth is determined by the calculation of the stress intensity factor. And the evaluation of the stress intensity factor, K comes from the stress analysis of the vicinity of crack tip of the continuum. This study describes a simple method to decide the stress intensity factor for the small crack at the sharp edge notches. The proposed method is based on the similarities between elastic stress fields of the notch tip described by two parameters, the stress concentration factor K, the radius of arc of the notch. And it is applicable to the analysis of the semi-elliptical penetration cracks and the edge notches.

  • five strains of Streptomyces spp. with high Productivity of glucose isomerase (15-30 units/ml) were obtained among 280 microbial strains isolated from 150 soil samples. These strains produced glucose isomerase with xylose as an inducer. These 5 strains were also identified to be different strains of Streptomyces spp.:streptomyces sp. K-14, K-53, K-71, K-77 and K-733. It was found that Streptomyces sp. K-14 produced the highest enzyme activity. The spore chains of these strains were rectiflexible and spore surface was smooth except Steptomyces sp. K-77 and K-733, with spiny surface.

  • Two lignan glycoside compounds were isolated from the twigs of Vaccinium oldhami (Ericaceae) through repeated column chromatography. Their chemical structures were elucidated as lyoniside and ssioriside, respectively, by spectroscopic analysis.
