  • FLIC(Fluid in cell) method has been used for analyzing a cold gas flow field in an interrupter of a circuit treater since 1970s. In this paper FLIC method is applied to calculation of a cold gas flow and then combined with the simple are analysis method in order to investigate the flow field characteristics in a puffer type interrupter rated at 145kV 40kA. The results for a cold gas flow agree with the experimental measurement well. The other results such as pressure rise, arc temperature, post-arc current and so forth am also reasonable and show the possibility that the combined program can be applied to the design of UHV interrupters.

  • This paper presents the results of the measured pressure-rise and the analyzed results of the cold gas flow-field in a 72.5kV 20kA gas circuit breaker for the electrical railway system. The analysis of cold gas flow field and the calculation of electric field strength have been performed in 3 types of interrupters and the low current interruption capability has been estimated for each of the gas circuit breaker considering the opening speed, the nozzle shape and the stroke length.

  • This paper presents object-oriented dynamic programing formulation of the unit commitment problem. This approach features the classification of generating units into related groups so called class. All object which share the same set of attributes and methods are grouped together in classes and designed inheritance hierarchy to minimize the number of unit combination which must be tested without precluding the optimal path. So this programming techniques will maximize the efficiency of unit commitment.

  • Race-track type superconducting coils are used for wiggler magnets of accelerators and field coils of superconducting generators(S.C.G) and so on. The shape is different from ordinary solenoidal type magnet, so the manufacturing situation and conditions become different and moreover according to these results the output characteristics of magnet also becomes different. In this paper we are dealing with race-track type coil design that is inserted into 30(kVA) S.C.G which will be manufactured before we make l(MVA) S.C.G plant. The design procedure is based on two dimensional electromagnetic analysis including laplace equations in cylindrical coordinate.

  • KEPCO is now going on upgrading the highest system voltage from 345kV to 765kV since 1992. The main reason of this 765kV project is the bulk power transmission from the power generation sites at the East and West coasts to the Kyeong-in area. The first 765kV transmission lines will be constructed by 1998 and operated as 345kV level until 2001. This system needs a detailed evaluation of the 2nd arc in case of 765kV transmission line outages and the countermeasures for the fast arc reduction for the successful high speed reclosing. So, this paper deals with the simulation results of the 2nd arc characteristics using EMTP and comparison of Sh.R and HSGS for the reduction methods.

The Construction and Viterbi Decoding of New (2k, k, l) Convolutional Codes

  • The free distance of (n, k, l) convolutional codes has some connection with the memory length, which depends on not only l but also on k. To efficiently obtain a large memory length, we have constructed a new class of (2k, k, l) convolutional codes by (2k, k) block codes and (2, 1, l) convolutional codes, and its encoder and generation function are also given in this paper. With the help of some matrix modules, we designed a single structure Viterbi decoder with a parallel capability, obtained a unified and efficient decoding model for (2k, k, l) convolutional codes, and then give a description of the decoding process in detail. By observing the survivor path memory in a matrix viewer, and testing the role of the max module, we implemented a simulation with (2k, k, l) convolutional codes. The results show that many of them are better than conventional (2, 1, l) convolutional codes.

  • 22kV, 60kA급 커패시터 펄스전원장치의 스위치로 신뢰성과 제어성이 우수한 반도체 스위치인 싸이리스터(Thyristor)를 사용하였다. 싸이리스터 규격의 적합성을 검토하였으며 펄스파워발생환경에서 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 대책을 고려하였다. 실험결과와 모사실험 결과를 비교하였다.

  • Let $\pi : P \to S^4$ be a principal G-bundle over $S^4$ whose the structure group G is a compact, connected, simple Lie group. Since $\pi_3(G) = \pi_4 (BG) = Z$, we can classify the principal bundle $P_k$ over $S^4$ by the map $S^4 \to BG$ of degree k. Atiyah and Jones [2] showed that $C_k = A_k/g^b_k$ is homotopy equivalent to $\Omega^3_k G \simeq \Omega^4_k BG$ where $A_k$ is the space of the all connections in $P_k$ and $g^b_k$ is the based gauge group which consists of all base point preserving automorphisms on $P_k$. Here $\Omega^nX$ is the space of all base-point preserving continuous map from $S^n$ to X. Let $M_k$ be the space of based gauge equivalence classes of all connections in $P_k$ satisfying the Yang-Mills self-duality equations, which we call the moduli space of G instantons.
