  • In this study, to provide the fundamental data on stable connection method for successful implants prosthesis, We fabricated the solder joint of gold alloy bar specimens by gas flame soldering method and laser welding and soldering method. It compared and studied the tensile strength of two soldering method by universal testing machine. The results using universal testing machine were as follow : The mean of tensile strength of solder joint bar in gas flame soldering method specimens was 363.89 $\pm$17.62 MPa, and the mean strength of laser welding and soldering method was 125.91 $\pm$ 19.66 MPa, so gas flame soldering method was better than laser welding and soldering method and the finding better way to improve tensile strength is needed in laser welding method. On weak loading condition and the part which is needed an accuracy, laser welding method is more effective and on long-span prosthesis and frequent chewing loading part, laser welding technique is recommended first and applying additional gas flame soldering technique would be better for making much more successful prosthesis.

  • Dislocation of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is troublesome condition which was most commonly shown far anteriorly displaced mandibular condyle to the articular eminence, thereby make it impossible to close one's mouth. It is often referred to as 'open lock' in clinically. Although anatomical modification of the articular eminence through eminectomy has been considered most satisfactory and efffective treatment for managing the recurrent dislocation, it seldom performs clinically due to its invasiveness and patient's reluctance. We thought a shortterm intermaxillary fixation could be of benefit to the patient suffering from recurrent dislocation. A 21-year-old male patient with recurrent TMJ dislocation which had developed after excessive mouth opening, was successfully treated with intermaxillay fixation using microimplant for 2 months. It is more conservative and less complicated method than eminectomy in treating recurrent TMJ dislocation. Transient intermaxillary fixation using microimplant and elastics could be one of treatment options for recurrent TMJ dislocation.

  • This study was performed to clarify the mechanism of clicking sound and locking on temporomandibular joint and to determine the radiographic findings of them by using computed tomogram. Through the preliminary study with cadavers, the proper scanning condition and the correlatonship between the anatomy of cadaver and computed tomogram had been determined. The subjects were consisted of 10 controls and 16 patients having clicking sound or locking on temporomandibular joint. By using Hitachi-W500 as computed tomographic device, direct axial views and sagittal views reformed according to the changes in window setting and using the non-linear fraction were taken and analyzed by visual method and measuring the attenuation numbers. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The density of the anterior band of meniscus showed isodense to the surrounding muscles in normal. 2. In patient group, affected side showed increased radiopaque area anterior to condyle and underneath articular eminence as the feature of anteriorly displaced meniscus on axial and sagittal views. 3. In patient group, the condyle was rotated postero-laterally in affected side. 4. Non-linear fraction highlightened the feature of anteriorly displaced meniscus.

  • In this study, the collision free path planning method of the articulated manipulator using sequential search is proposed. This method is to find the joint path of the manipulator with many degrees of freedom from the distal joint to the proximal one. To do this, the initial work space of the gantry manipulator, which is a remote maintenance equipment of the radioactive environment, is defined from the condition that the distal joint configuration is determined by the posture of maintenance. Then, 2-dimensional configuration space with the obstacle area is represented and the collision free path of manipulator is searched in the configuration space. And, this method is verified using the graphic simulation in virtual workcell for the spent fuel disassembling processes. The result of this study can be effectively used in implementing the maintenance processes for the hot cell equipment and enhance the reliability of the spent fuel management.

  • This study was aimed at the design of the dies for the unified shaft joint using the computer simulation to shorten the period of production, on the basis of the process planning which was designed by the field experts. In the computer simulation, 'Deform-3d' and 'Eesy-DieOpt' have been used, which are the commercial process analysis and die design program. Through the process analysis, we could know the propriety of the forming process, the inner pressure of the die and the suitable fitting pressure between the insert and the sleeve which was not showing any positive tangential stresses in the insert. Through the simulation of die design, we could know the number of the stress ring, the diameter ratios, the stresses of the die, the shrink fitting tolerance and temperature in the condition of the already determined maximum outer die diameter of the multi-stage former. The validity of the die design using the computer simulation was analyzed by the experiments and the results were satisfactory. As the results of this study, the new and easy die design system for multi-forging has been developed.

  • Mechanical behavior of rock joints usually can be characterized by small-scale laboratory shear tests due to economical and technical limitations, but their applicability to the behaviour of rock mass has been always questioned by a number of researchers because of scale effect. Though there have been several researches regarding the scale effect, it has been a controversial problem how to apply the result of small-scale laboratory shear test directly to field design from different conclusions among researchers. In order to grasp the trend of scale effect of shear behavior, a series of direct shear tests on replicas of natural rock joint surfaces made of gypsum cement with different size and roughness were conducted and analyzed. Result showed that as the size of the specimen increased, average peak shear displacement increased, but average shear stiffness and average peak dilation angle decreased. As for the dependency of scale on shear strength, the degree of scale effect was dependent on normal stress and roughness of rock joint. For the condition of low normal stress and high roughness, decrease of average peak shear strength with increasing size of joint was evident.

  • The weld seam tracking system for arc welding process uses various kinds of sensors such as arc sensor, vision sensor, laser displacement and so on. Among the variety of sensors available, electro-magnetic sensor is one of the most useful methods especially in sheet metal butt-joint arc welding, primarily because it is hardly affected by the intense arc light and fume generated during the welding process, and also by the surface condition of weldments. In this study, a dual-electromagnetic sensor, which utilizes the induced current variation in the sensing coil due to the eddy current variation of the metal near the sensor, was developed for arc welding of sheet metal butt-joints. The dual-electromagnetic sensor thus detects the offset displacement of weld line from the center of sensor head even though there's no clearance in the joint. A set of design variables of the sensor were determined for the maximum sensing capability through the repeated experiments. Seam tracking is performed by correcting the position of sensor to the amount of offset displacement every sampling period. From the experimental results, the developed sensor showed the excellent capability of weld seam detection when the sensor to workpiece distance is near less than 5 mm, and it was revealed that the system has excellent seam tracking ability for the butt-joint of sheet metal.

  • Under driving condition, A vehicle experiences various kinds of loads, which brings on the buckling and fracture of suspension systems. Lower control arm (LCA), which consists of 2 bush joints and 1 ball joint connection, is the one of the most important parts in the suspension system. The bush joints absorb the impact load and reduce the vibration from the road. When analyzing the LCA behavior, it is important to understand the material properties and boundary conditions of bushing systems correctly, because of the nonlinearity characteristics of the rubber. In this paper, in order to predict the large scale deformation of the LCA more precisely, three factors are newly suggested, that is, coupling of bush stiffness between translation and rotation, bush extraction force and maximum rotation angle of ball joint. LCA stiffness is estimated by CAE and component test. Analysis and test results are almost same and the validity of considering three factors in LCA analysis is verified.

  • In this paper, to access the suitability of recycled aggregate for structural applications, concrete strength i.e., compressive, tensile and flexural strength were evaluated and compared with those specimens made of natural aggregates. Test results indicated that 30 to 42% of the mentioned strength decreases. To study the performance of frame structures made of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) two reinforced RAC frames were prepared and tested under monotonic loading. The joint regions of one of the RAC frame were casted with micro-concrete. A reference specimen was also prepared using natural aggregate concrete (NAC) and subjected to a similar loading condition. The RAC frame resulted in a brittle mode of failure as compared to NAC frame. However, the presence of a micro-concrete at the joint region of an RAC frame improved the damage tolerance and load resisting capacity. Seismic parameter such as energy dissipation, ductility and stiffness also improves. Conclusively, strengthening of joint region using micro-concrete is found to have a significant contribution in improving the seismic performance of an RAC frame.
