  • This study tested the relations of schools organizational climate and teachers' job stresses, perceived by 913 teachers from 45 elementary, junior- and senior-high schools. Pearson's correlation analysis for the relations between the sub-factors of both organizational climate and job stresses and cannonical correlation analysis for the relative contribution of individual variable of organizational climate upon job stress were applied for the test. The results of Pearson's correlation analysis showed that while 'intimacy', 'esprit', 'considerations', and 'production emphasis' climate had negative correlations with job stress sub-factors, 'disengagement' and 'aloofness' climate had positive correlation. 'Student guidance', a sub-factor of job stresses, did not have statistically significant correlation with any sub-factors of organizational climate. Findings from cannonical correlation analysis showed 2 significant cannonical functions to explain the relations between the sets of variables. 'Disengagement' from organizational climate positively contributed with 'authority forfeiture' and 'dissention and conflict' of the job stresses variables.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the job stresses perceived by R.O.K. naval crews on turnover intentions and job satisfactions. Especially, this study aims to derive the policy implication for the trait characteristics by comparing the job attitude between the surface naval ship and submarine crew. For this purpose, we surveyed 1,000 naval crews. Then, multiple regression analysis was performed. Next, a T-test was conducted to test statistical significance of group differences. First, the job stresses perceived by naval crews were higher in the order of physical environments, overworks, compensation incompetence, lacks of autonomy, and conflicts with people. Second, the job stresses perceived by submarine crews were higher than that of surface naval ship crews. It was also proved statistically significant by the T-test. Third, the physical environments, lacks of autonomy, conflicts of relativity, and inadequate compensation stress have a positive statistically significant effect on turnover intentions of naval crews. Fourth, lacks of autonomy, conflicts of relativity, and inadequate compensation factors have a statistically significant negative effect on the job satisfactions of naval crews. Finally, multiple regression analysis was performed between the independent and dependent variables of the naval crews, and the policy implications were derived.

  • Flight instructors at aviation training centers are exposed to various stresses, such as stress caused by special work environments, stress caused by working conditions, and stress related to uncertain future airline employment. These stresses are expected to not only affect flight safety, but also adversely affect the job satisfaction of flight instructors, and consequently negatively affect the performance of high-quality flight education. Therefore, this study was conducted to understand the effects of these stresses on the job satisfaction of flight instructors by examining the stress experienced by flight instructors in flight, psychological, and physical aspects based on the results of previous studies on stress. To the end, this study conducted a survey of flight instructors belonging to aviation training centers, and as a result of analyzing the collected data, it was confirmed that the physical stress of flight instructors had a significant negative effect on their job satisfaction.

  • The present study is designed to develop surveying tools to measure stressors of and social supports for Radiological Technologists which may play a role to alleviate their stresses caused from their job environments. For this purpose, an analysis of reliability by factors of personal stressors was conducted on 890 radiologists who are working at 44 general hospitals in 16 cities and provinces across the country. The results of the analysis may be summed up as follows: Six factors in 2 concerned fields turned out to be major tools for use as items of questionnaires to measure social supports for and organizational culture of Radiological Technologists. The factors determined to be applicable for survey with reliability coefficient of more than 0.7 measured by factors for internal coherence included social supports on the job(0.90), off-the-job social supports(0.81), job satisfaction(0.80), devotion for job by length of service(0.81) and emotional devotion for job(0.80), all deemed to be appropriate as survey items. In the verifying process of the results, it was found that normative devotion for job(0.61) showed lower reliability as its statistical coefficient was analyzed to be less than 0.7. It seemed, therefore, necessary to reconstruct items or re-select such ones only that can maintain internal coherence in order to analyze appropriateness of related measuring tools, or to develop new measuring tools. Although the outcomes of this study can be used to verify reliability and appropriateness of concerned concepts to assess stresses caused during the job performance of Radiological Technologists, it may be improper to adopt them to measure all types of social supports and stresses that occur generally under the job environment. It is desired, however, to compare and analyze the findings of the present study with others and to utilize them as basic data for further development of tools that can maintain internal coherence in terms of reliability and appropriateness in spite of changing social environments.

Special attention was given to the differences due to the various organizational types of educare centers. Two hundred and twenty two public and private educare center teachers of C city were drawn as samples of this study. Self-administered questionnaire method containing items (m job-related stress, Job satisfaction and socio-demographic background was employed and the data were analyzed with SPSSWlN using descriptive statistics, factor analysis and regression analysis. Findings suggested that the major job-related stresses were related to work experiences, working hours, and the number of on-the-job training opportunities. Work place characteristics such as the total number of children in the class, working hours and wage also affected the level of Job satisfaction. Additionally significant statistical differences were found on the job-related stress and the job satisfaction between teachers in public and private educare centers. In the question of the effect of job-related stress on the job satisfaction, job-related stress explained 12% of work-satisfaction, 33% of satisfaction related to the current working place. Accordingly it was possible to draw a conclusion that educare center teachers' job-related stresses. were not ascribed by personal characteristics but by work-related factors such a, poor administrative support low wage and the overwhelming task related stressors The main stressor of job satisfaction was poor administrative support. Differences on job-related stress and job satisfaction_between among teachers of public and private unit were distinctive throughout the study. These results, implicate that workshops are recommended to help diminish the job-related stress among educare center teachers.

  • Many pilots of the Korean Air Force(ROKAF) leave their jobs in order to move out to civilian airlines. Thanks to this considerable turnover phenomenon, the ROKAF faces a serious lack of air defense power. While the common understanding of this problem mainly talks about 'money' as the main cause of turnover, some pilots point out rather different issues. Many pilots say in a large-scale survey that they face serious job stresses not only from relative shortage of their income compared to civilian pilots, camp life, separated family conditions, overly loaded administrative works, but also from their professional flight trainings and low promotion rate to high ranks. The survey shows, however, at the same time, that the ROKAF pilots do not consider their job trainings and overall roles as the military pilots as the main factor causing the intention to turnover. A critical aspect of the pilots' job condition is many stress factors consistently affect overall job satisfaction level which stimulates the decision to turnover when they have to choose between the extension of military service as a pilot and moving-out to civilian airlines for new pilot's life. In other words, they accept the job difficulties as pilot in the military, but their long-term job satisfaction level is negatively affected by the job stresses.
