  • The present study aimed to identify the variables related to paternal participation in child-rearing. For this purpose, 543 fathers of young children living in the seven biggest cities in Korea were invited to participate in the internet survey and completed questionnaires assessing marital and job satisfaction. Their temperament was measured with the EAS Temperament Survey(Buss & Plomin, 1984). The result of this research showed that both the marital and job satisfaction of the fathers affected their parenting participation. And also, marital satisfaction was more strongly associated with the fathers' parenting participation than job satisfaction. All temperament types of the fathers had moderating effects and there were significant differences according to their temperament. This study provides the key factors which have an influence on paternal involvement in parenting and also suggests that the temperament of the father should be considered for participation in parenting.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine frequency of job performance, level of urgency, index of importance experienced by 138 new nurses who were working at 6 hospitals that had over 400 bed in Incheon and Bucheon. The data were analyzed using a SPSS program for descriptive statistics [numbers of job performance, level of urgency, index of importance(job performance+1/4 level of urgency)]. Some of the most frequent job performance were application of aseptic technique, application of principle of infection control, and medication (IV, PO, IM, supply fluid and electrolyte). Some of the most uncommon job performance were activity as a lecturer in nursing department, activity of arrangement of community resources, and participation in multidisciplinary conference. Some of the highest level of urgency were use of aseptic technique, CPR, application of principle of infection control, defibrillation for dysrhythmia, blood transfusion, observation of patient's status in procedure (operation), v/s check, intervention for improvement of respiratory function and medication of antihypertensives. Some of the lowest level of urgency were activity as a lecturer in nursing department, preceptor's activity, supervisor and delegation of job to nurse aids, attendance at nursing conference, activity of arrangement of community resources, participation in clinical teaching practice, participation in multidisciplinary conference, and delegation of patient care. Those were indirect patient care. The order was physiologic integration(60.99%), safety and effective nursing environment, psychosocial care, and health maintenance and improvement. The most importance item in maintenance of physiologic integration was medication. Some of the highest index of importance were aseptic technique and application of principle of infection control, v/s check, observation of patient's status in operation and medication. • The purpose of the present study was to determine the structural relationship among the father's participation in childcare, parenting stress, marital satisfaction, and the job satisfaction of working mothers. This study is based on the 2011 Panel Study on Korean Children, a large, population-based study conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. The participants were 431 working mothers. To ensure the reliability and validity of the questions, descriptive statistics of the frequency, ratio, average, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis were obtained using SPSS 21.0. Exploratory factor, variables correlation, and reliability analysis were also performed. The structural analysis using AMOS 20.0 in the bootstrapping method was conducted to perform a path analysis among the variables and to assess the suitability of the model. A hypothetical model was proposed, which was composed of a father's participation in childcare as an exogenous variable and parenting stress, marital satisfaction, and job satisfaction of a working mother as the endogenous variables. The results of this study are as follows: First, a father's participation in childcare and the parenting stress and marital satisfaction of a working mother affect the job satisfaction of the mother. The most influential factor is marital satisfaction. Second, marital satisfaction has mediating effects between the father's participation in childcare and the parenting stress and job satisfaction of the working mother. Third, parenting stress does not affect job satisfaction.

  • Objectives: This study examined dental hygiene students' frequency of participation in community volunteer activities, job consciousness, depression, and self-esteem, and then identified the correlation among them. We also analyzed the moderating effect of depression and self-esteem on the correlation between participation in community volunteer activities and job consciousness. Methods: We surveyed 312 dental hygiene students attending four universities in South Chungcheong Province, Korea, from May 2 to June 15, 2016, through direct visits. They were given structured questionnaires containing four items on community volunteer activities, three on job consciousness, ten on self-esteem, and 13 on depression. To examine the moderating effect of depression and self-esteem, we performed analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis (based on the path analysis model and by inserting interaction terms) using SPSS and AMOS. Results: We observed a negative correlation between self-esteem and depression (r=-0.062) but a positive correlation between self-esteem and job consciousness (r=0.125). Depression and job consciousness had a negative correlation (r=-0.176). Depression had a statistically significant impact on job consciousness (r=-0.519, p<0.01). The interaction term between depression and frequency of community volunteer activities also had a statistically significant influence on job consciousness (r=0.090, p<0.05). These findings indicate that depression moderates the correlation between frequency of community volunteer activities and job consciousness at a statistically significant level. Conclusions: More frequent participation in volunteer activities enhances dental hygiene students' self-esteem, reduces depression, and raises job consciousness. The positive impact of volunteering on self-esteem, depression, and job consciousness warrants encouraging students' participation in community volunteer activities, creating supportive structures, and developing various volunteer programs relevant to the students' area of study.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the level of participation in and satisfaction with training courses at job training institutions and to improve participation and satisfaction through changes in the training method for industrial ventilation subjects. Methods: The results were analyzed for the mean and standard deviation by t-test and ANOVA, (p=0.05). Participation rates were examined for three courses: specialization, job training, and supervisory. The participation inthe education was 428 people, and the result of satisfaction with the change of education method was 878 people. Satisfaction was investigated for the specialized curriculum and job training curriculum, but not the supervisor curriculum. The satisfaction results for six items(contents, quality, skill, level, degree of understanding, degree of practical) were analyzed according to the change in the training medium and the method among people in one occupational ventilation subject. Results: The participation rate was similar in the job training and specialized training courses, but the lowest rate was in supervisory courses(p=0.05). In general, there was the lowest participation on the first day of education, and the participation rate improved after the second day. Satisfaction with the course was high for the specialized education course with a number of practical education assignments(p=0.278). The satisfaction level for the teaching method in the industrial ventilation subjects was high in a mixed group which combined lecture and practice. The industrial ventilation course in the basic job training course showed a difference between lecture and mixed education(p=0.111), but there was no significant difference. However, the industrial ventilation course in the advance job training course showed a clear difference between lecture and the mixed education(p=0.036). Conclusions: Therefore, the first day of training should start in the afternoon so that more trainees can participate, and it is recommended to assign important subjects after two days. In addition, it is suggested that job competency-enhancing education utilize various educational methods and media.
