A research on the job satisfaction of dental hygienists an area in Jeollabuk-do - The focus of management system - (전라북도 일부 지역 치과위생사의 직무만족도 조사 - 치과의료기관 운영제도를 중심으로 -)

  • Purpose : This study was to figure out the factors affecting the job satisfaction of dental hygienists working in dental clinics. To gain the data to establish the systems for enhancing the job satisfaction of the dental hygienists. This research has been conducted dental hygienists working in dental clinics institutes located in Jeonju and Iksan city, Jeollabuk-do, korea. Methods : The collected data were analyzed by using an SPSS statistical program, obtaining the following results. Result : The average satisfactory level of the dental hygienists was 3.45 out of 5 points. The most important factor affecting of the job satisfaction was the relationship with patients as 3.83 points and the least influencing factor was the compensation as 3.09 points. The management system and the satisfactory level were also correlated. For each of details, communication structure and working environment showed the highest correlation with Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.610. Among the management system the general job satisfaction according to the communicational structure was higher when they had better communication with dentists. Among the management system, the job satisfaction according to structural factors was higher when they have manuals for the job, when their job is taken partial charge of the responsibility As for job satisfaction by the welfare support factor in the clinic management system, the better an informal social gathering, the higher general job satisfaction. As for job satisfaction by the job autonomy factor in the clinic management system, the more evenly distributed job opportunities and chances of reeducation for professional development led to higher general job satisfaction. Conclusion : The compensation-related grade was the lowest among the 6 constituent factors of the job satisfaction, it seems that improvement of wages and incentives is required to enhance the satisfaction of the dental hygienists. Also, improving factors affecting the management system of the dental service institute can increase the job satisfaction since the job satisfaction was higher when the institutes have the better management system.

Associations Between Work Characteristics, Engaged Well-Being at Work, and Job Attitudes - Findings from a Longitudinal German Study

  • Objective: The Job Demand & Resources model suggests work characteristics are related to mental well-being and work engagement. Previous work describes the development of a combined construct 'engaged well-being at work' (EWB). To what extent changes in measures of this construct are responsive to changes in job demands and resources or associated with changes in job-related attitudes has not been established. Methods: Longitudinal employee-level data from three waves (German Linked Personnel Panel) were used. Logistic and linear fixed effects regression analyses explored longitudinal associations between changes in EWB for participants over a three-year period with changes in job demands and resources and job-related attitudes (job commitment, satisfaction, and turnover intentions). Results: While job resources were associated with increased odds for a change into a healthier and/or more engaged category of EWB, job demands reduced them. Job resources were more strongly related to higher EWB (ORrange = 1.22 - 1.61) than job demands (ORrange = 0.79 - 0.96). Especially psychological job demands showed negative associations with improved EWB (OR = 0.79). A change from the least desirable category 'disengaged strain' to any other category of EWB was associated with greater odds by up to 20.6 % for increased commitment and job satisfaction and lower odds for turnover intentions. Discussion: Improving work characteristics, especially job resources, could increase employees' EWB, emphasizing the importance of job characteristics for a healthy workplace. Because EWB seems to be associated with job attitudes, an improvement of this indicator would be relevant for employees and employers.

Job Stress, Job Satisfaction, and Organizational Commitment according to Life Organization (LIFO) Behavior Type of Novice Nurses (초보간호사의 LIFO 행동유형에 따른 직무 스트레스, 직무만족도와 조직몰입)

  • Purpose: This study was done to provide data that would contribute to effective task performance in clinical nursing and development of nursing professional by understanding job stress, job satisfaction and organizational commitment according to Life Organization (LIFO) behavior types of novice nurses. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey and the participants were 313 novice nurses who worked in one university hospital located in the city of Gwangju. Data were collected through the structured questionnaires that included general characteristics, job stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment scales. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: Regarding job stress according to LIFO behavior types of novice nurses, there were statistically significant differences between the favorable situation and the unfavorable situation. There were also statistically significant differences regarding the organizational commitment according to LIFO behavior types. Conclusion: The results indicate a difference in behavior patterns of novice nurses that suggest a need for education in order to reduce stress from the job and enhance organizational commitment by developing each nurse's preferred pattern and compensating for unfavorable patterns, as well. There also needs to be nursing resources that take into consideration behavior patterns of novice nurses.

The Moderating Effects of Social Support between Job Stress and Job Satisfaction in Staff Nurses (임상간호사의 직무 스트레스와 직무만족도에 대한 사회적 지지의 조절효과)

  • Purpose: This paper was attempted to focused on the analysis of job stress and job satisfaction according to the moderating effects of social support. Method: Data collected from 302 staff nurses in 2 general hospitals, with self-reporting questionnaires(Wolfgang's HPSI, modified Hagihara's social support, and MSQ). Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and moderated regression analysis were used. Result: The subjects exhibited significantly highest level of 'the work and patients' conditions'. The perceived job stress was negatively correlated with supervisor and co-workers' support, and job satisfactions. Also supervisor and coworkers' support were positively correlated with job satisfactions. The main factor that affected the job satisfactions was 'work and patient conditions' and it was explained 35.5% out of the total variance of the job satisfactions with 'the work load and disturbing factor', 'supervisor support' and 'co-workers' support'. Supervisor support moderated the relationships between 'the patient care responsibilities and career development factor' and satisfaction. Conclusion: For developing the stress management program for hospital nurses, 'the work and patients' conditions', and the strategies of strengthening 'supervisor and co-workers' support' should be considered. In addition to, it may be considered to examine the effects of social support on the other criterion variables.

The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Quality of Life in Dental Technicians (치과기공사에 있어서 직무만족도와 삶의 질의 관련성)

  • This study was carried out to measure job satisfaction and quality of life and to clarify the factors in job satisfaction which influence on quality of life of dental technicians, using developed tools for job satisfaction and WHOQOL-BREF for quality of life. The subjects for this study were 238 people who worked the in the Daegu-Kyungbuk area. The results of this study were as follows; the general characteristics that influenced job satisfaction, were especially education, hobbies, salary level, job career and work hours. The factors that influenced the quality of life, were especially Married status, hobbies, job position, and office hours. All subfactors in job satisfaction were related to each other. Growth-development factor was intensely related with recognition factor. Also, all subfactors in quality of life were in positive relation to each other, especially psychological domain was highly related with social domain. Factors of safety, recognition and accomplishment in job satisfaction intensely affected quality of life. Therefore, It is suggested that social recognition for dental technician should be promoted and it might be needed to adjust office hours and support hobby life.

Impact of Psychosocial Wellbeing Status and Self Leadership on the Job Satisfaction of Fire Officers (소방공무원의 사회심리적 건강수준과 셀프 리더십이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of psychosocial wellbeing status and self leadership with job satisfaction of fire officers. The effects of these variables on job satisfaction were also examined. Methods: The study design was a descriptive, correlational design. For this study, data were collected from 189 fire officers in B metropolitan city, K and Y cities. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The results showed that job satisfaction had a significant correlation with psychosocial wellbeing status (r=-.38, p<.001) and self leadership (r=.26, p<.001). Psychosocial wellbeing status had a significant correlation with self leadership(r=-.47, p<.001). Multiple regression analysis for job satisfaction revealed that the most powerful predictor was psychosocial wellbeing status followed by self leadership. Pychosocial wellbeing status, self leadership, age, marital status and current job task career explained 25.0% of the variance in job satisfaction. Conclusion: Findings indicate that various factors are related to the job satisfaction of fire officers. Based on the results of this study, further development and application of programs to improve fire officers' job satisfaction are needed.

Relation of Compassionate Competence to Burnout, Job Stress, Turnover Intention, Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment for Oncology Nurses in Korea

  • Background: Nursing focuses on the development of an empathic relationship between the nurse and the patients. Compassionate competence, in particular, is a very important trait for oncology nurses. The current study sought to determine the degree of compassionate competence in oncology nurses, as well as to determine the relationships between compassionate competence, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, degrees of job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in oncology nurses. Materials and Methods: A descriptive correlational study evaluating the relationships between compassionate competence, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, degrees of job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in 419 oncology nurses was conducted between January 30 and February 20, 2015. Results: The average score of compassionate competence for oncology nurses in the current study was higher than for clinical nurses. Conclusions: The correlational analysis between compassionate competence and organizational commitment, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, and degree of job satisfaction revealed a high correlation between compassionate competence and positive job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Conclusions: Compassionate competence was higher in oncology nurses than in nurses investigated in previous studies and positively correlated with work experience. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment in nurses may be improved through compassionate competence enhancement programs that employ a variety of experiences.

Effects of the Nursing Organizational Culture and Head Nurse's Leadership on the Job Satisfaction (간호사가 지각한 간호조직 문화유형 및 수간호사의 리더십 유형이 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of nursing organizational culture and head nurse's leadership on the job satisfaction. Methods : For the purpose, a structured questionnaire was conducted. The subjects were 232 nurses who were working in the 2 general hospitals. The data were collected from Sep. 1 to Sep. 20 of 2006. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression. Results : The dominant organizational culture of nursing organization was rank-oriented culture. The mean score of head nurse's transformational leadership and transactional leadership was 3.20 and 2.79 respectively. The best group of job satisfaction was affiliative-oriented culture group(3.31). The score of job satisfaction of transformational leadership's group was higher than that of transactional leadership's group. Job satisfaction was positively correlated with affiliative-oriented culture, innovative-oriented culture, task-oriented culture, and transformational leadership. Concerning of the job satisfaction, affiliative-oriented culture, rotation time and age explained 25.7%. Conclusion : The organizational culture and head nurse's leadership was correlated with job satisfaction. Especially affiliative-oriented culture and task-oriented culture influenced the job satisfaction. Based on the results, further development should be continued to develop the effective head nurse's leadership and organizational culture to improve the job satisfaction of nurses.

Factors influencing job embeddedness in dental hygienists (임상 치과위생사의 직무착근도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine factors influencing job embeddedness in dental clinic hygienists. Through this study, we suggest the necessity to increase job embeddedness and use that as basic data for effective dental personnel management. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 219 dental clinic hygienists from September 8 to October 8, 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were reviewed, and a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: Dental hygienists scored 3.14 points in job embeddedness. The variables that influenced clinical job embeddedness were self-efficacy, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. These factors had 56.7% of variance in dental clinic hygienists. Conclusions: Job satisfaction was the most affected factor for dental clinic hygienists. In order to maintain effective personnel management of dental hygienists, strategic program development and application are needed to improve job embeddedness.

A Study on the meaning of work and job embeddedness affecting the creative behavior of organization members

  • This study attempted to confirm the factors that the meaning of work perceived by organization members and job embeddedness affects creative behavior. In addition, we tried to confirm the relationship between the meaning of work and job embeddedness. On the other hand, we tried to verify the mediating effect of job embeddedness between the meaning of work and creative behavior. Accordingly, the following results and implications were derived through the hypotheses set for the members of small and medium-sized enterprises. First, the meaning of work showed a positive effect on job embeddedness and creative behavior, and it was empirically analyzed that job embeddedness was improved on creative behavior. In order to improve the creative behavior of organizational members, the need for advancement of the management and training system to systematically improve and strengthen the meaning of work and job embeddedness has emerged. Second, job embeddedness showed a mediating effect between the meaning of work and creative behavior. In other words, the employee's job embeddedness acted as a direct or indirect factor according to the improvement of the meaning of work and creative behavior. Accordingly, as one of the major factors in human resource management and strategic human resource development for the advancement of the sustainable management system, the need for institutional establishment and implementation was required as it became more efficient and effective.
