The growth of ark shell, Anadara broughtonii was compared between two areas, $Gad\v{o}gdo$ in Jinhae Bay and Namhae located in the southern coast of Korea from May 1986 to October 1987. The ark shells in Namhae grew from 1.38$\pm$0.32 em to 7.20$\pm$0.30 em in shell length, while those in $Gad\v{o}gdo$ grew from 1.38$\pm$0.32 em to 6,41$\pm$0.30 cm in 17 months. Shell height, shell breadth and total weigth of the ark shells in Namhae were also greater than those from $Gad\v{o}gdo$. Bottom quality of $Gad\v{o}gdo$ showed negative skewness, and that of Namhae was positive skewness. Negative skewness of $Gad\v{o}gdo$ seems to be caused by the effect of strong tidal current. This may indicate that Namhae is better area than $Gad\v{o}gdo$ for the culture of the ark shell.
Both long period of summer drought and unusual high water temperature in 1988 caused the harmfull effect to the aquacultural organisms in south coast of Korea. One of those was the mass mortality of arkshell seedlings in Jinhae Bay. The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of environmental factors on arkshell seedlings by investigating not only water quality and food organisms in culturing grounds, but also meteorological conditions. Water temperature in November was higher at $2.0^{\circ}C$ than mean water temperature and the concentration of total inorganic nitrogen and N/P ratio were $0.38{\mu}g-at/l,$ 0.98, respectively which indicated the exhaustion of nutrients, especially nitrogen in the study area. In analysis of phytoplankton population structure, species diversity index(H) , equitability-index(e), species richness $index(d_1)$ were low, but dominance $index({\delta}_2)$ was high at the value of 98.4 and dominant species was Nitzschia pungens. In conclusion, it seems that mass .mortality of arkshell seedlings in November was resulted from the metabolism disorder with poor food organism under the unstable marine environment.
To compare the accumulation of paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) in different marine organisms, the occurrence and variation of PSP were surveyed in blue mussel Mytilus edulis, oyster Crassostrea gigas, short neck clam Ruditapes philippinarum, bay scallop Argopecten irradians, and warty sea squirt Styela clava collected from Jinhae Bay, Korea, in 2005 and 2006 year. We also investigated the ability of the blue mussel to detoxify PSP by relaying and depuration (via the water flow or water circulation system). In the marine organisms examined, PSP levels were the highest in blue mussel, followed in order by bay scallop, oyster, short neck clam, and warty sea squirt. Comparing the maximum PSP levels in the bivalve species examined in 2005 and 2006, PSP in blue mussel was 1.6-2.0, 4.0-5.9, and 5.1-6.0 times higher than in bay scallop, oyster, and short neck clam, respectively. Therefore, blue mussel could be useful as a bioindicator for PSP monitoring. With the increasing PSP levels in blue mussel in 2006, the proportion of PSP in its digestive gland increased to 95.1% when the maximum level was detected from the whole tissues of blue mussel on May 29. Subsequently, the PSP proportion in the digestive gland decreased as the PSP level in whole tissue decreased. The detoxification of PSP in blue mussel was greatest with relaying, followed by the water flow, and water circulation systems. Relaying decreased the PSP level below the regulatory limit of $80{\mu}g$/100 g after 2 days in low toxic sample with $124{\mu}g$/100 g, and after 7 days in high toxic sample with $401{\mu}g$/100 g. During depuration in the blue mussel with $401{\mu}g$/100 g via the water flow system, the PSP amounts in the digestive gland decreased by about 50% after 1 day, and about 77% after 7 days. In contrast, the PSP amounts in the soft body, gill, and mantle did not change significantly with depuration.

To understand the effect of attachment substrate on the growth of benthic microalgae, we experimentally investigated the growth of benthic microalgae Nitzschia sp. (Jinhae Bay strain) with additions of glass beads in different sizes. The glass beads used in this study are 0.09-0.15 mm (G1), 0.25-0.50 mm (G2), 0.75-1.00 mm (G3) and 1.25-1.65 mm (G4). No addition of glass beads used as controls. Highest specific growth rate (0.37/day) and maximum cell density ($9,232{\pm}840$ cells/mL) of Nitzschia sp. showed at the smallest glass beads (G1), and the specific growth rate and maximum cell density were decreasing with increasing size of glass beads (specific growth rate and maximum cell density of G4 was 0.24/day and $6,397{\pm}524$ cells/mL, respectively). Moreover, specific growth rate of the control experiment (0.23/day) was significantly lower than their of G1 to G3 experiment. The results indicated that the attachment substrate for benthic microalgae as Nitzschia sp. is important factor which affecting the growth rate as well as cell density. Therefore, the physiological experiment of benthic microalgae seems to be necessary to preliminary experiment, which is addition or not of the attachment suitable substrate and the grain size for the target species of benthic microalgae.

Since no medium-sized anchovies for skipjack baits are caught during the winter season in the Korean waters, the demand for the live baits in the winter season is met with crawl-stocked anchovies. Authors conducted a test on the wintering of the anchovies which were caught in the early November and acclimated for 22days in a crawl. The wintering crawl was kept in the inlet near Chungmu City, which is situated in the southern coast of Korea, for 4 months through December 1, 1971 to March 31, 1972. 1. The lowest water temperature of $7.2^{\circ}C$ recorded on March 1, caused no significant mortality of the wintering anchovies. However, two operations, moving the crawl and repacling the crawl webbing, brought about a considerable mortality. The mortality of the anchovies, due to the crawl moving to the wintering place two kilometers away from the transient acclimating place, amounted to 1.5 percent in 9 days following the crawl moving. The replacement of the fouled crawl webbing with a new one also caused a mortality amounting to 1.7 percent in 5 days. 2. It is judged that the favorable wintering waters lie in the south and southeast coasts of Keoje Island, the south and southwest coast of Chungmu City, coasts around Namhae Island, and the east coast of Dolsan Island. Jinhae Bay is not suited for the wintering because of its low water temperature in winter 3. The wintering anchovies wvere fed, once a day through the test period, with 4 kg of finely minced fresh anchovy for 57days in the early period, and with 2kg of compound pellet fish food for the rest of the period. Fatness coefficient of the wintering anchovies showed a slight increase in the latter half of the period.

A self-supported temporary excavation method called Inclined Earth Retaining structure (IER) has been developed by improving an existing excavation method. The stability of the IER was proved with both model tests and field tests. Especially, the results of the model tests proved that the lateral displacement of a model retaining wall was significantly reduced in clay. In this study, the applicability of the IER installed in the soft clay ground is estimated by analyzing survey data collected in the construction field. The results of FE analysis show that the lateral displacement of the IER decreased by 70.9% of that of a single row, self-supported retaining wall using the same number of H-piles. Thus, using the IER method in the soft clay ground will increase the stability of the excavated ground with the effect restraining its lateral displacement. Furthermore, using Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) to the upper half embedded depth of front support is recommended as a subsidiary method of reducing the lateral displacement of IER in the soft clay ground based on FE analysis results.
This study mainly focused on isolation of marine algicidal bacteria associated with phytoplankton blooms and characterization of algicidal activity against harmful algae. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) found naturally in surface waters have caused many environmental problems worldwide. In this study, forty bacterial strains that have capability of inhibiting harmful algal growth were isolated from Masan Bay, Jinhae Bay, Dol Island, Jangmok Bay, and the Tongyeong Sea, Republic of Korea. The bacteria were screened furthermore for the characteristics on algicidal activities against Cochlodinium polykrikoides, Chattonella marina, Skeletonema costatum, Heterosigma akashiwo, Heterocapsa triquetra, Prorocentrum minimum, and Scrippsiella trochoidea. As a result, the algicidal bacteria that were screened from double over layer agar and microscopic counts tests belonged to genera Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Bacillus, Pseudoalteromonas, Ruegeria, Joostella, Marinomonas, Stakelama, Porphyrobacter, and Albirhodobacter. One of the most important HAB species is Co. polykrikoides and the strongest algicidal activity against the dinoflagellate was 94.00% after 6 h treatment with 10% bacterial culture filtrate. In this study, Marinomonas sp. M Jin 1-8, Stakelama sp. ZB Yeonmyeong 1-11 & 1-13, Porphyrobacter sp. M Yeonmyeong 2-22, and Albirhodobacter sp. 6-R Jin 6-1 were found to be as new genera of bacteria having anti-algal activity. These results suggest that these bacteria might play an important role in controlling phytoplankton blooms.
To investigate sedimentary facies and environmental changes of the Nakdong River Estuary and its adjacent coastal area, the grain size analysis and measurement of organic matter, calcium carbonate, clay mineral and metallic elements were carried out for forty surface sediment samples. Based on regional distribution pattern and characteristics of the surface sediments, sedimentary facies in the study area can be divided into sand facies (TYPE I), mud facies (TYPE II) and sand-mud mixed facies (TYPE III). TYPE III is the transition of TYPE I and TYPE II in every aspects of sediment characteristics. It suggests that TYPE III may have been formed by the mixture of two different source of sediment : one derived from Nakdong River and the other resuspended fine-grained sediments from the Jinhae Bay by winnowing action during floods or storms. Among many aspects of environmental change after the construction of the Nakdong Barrage, the most significant is the increase of sand content off the sand barrier region. It could be explained by several reasons including decreased input of fine-grained sediment from river, increased hydrodynamic energy level off the sand barrier region and artificial effects such as dredging and dumping.
Objective: The objective of this study is to identify the difference in the press behavior characteristics of 3D Touch, which is a new touch interaction of smart phones, and the existing 'Tap and Long Press' touch interaction, and to examine behavior changes upon feedbacks. Background: Since 3D Touch is similar to the existing 'Tap and Long Press' touch interactions in terms of press behavior, which is likely to cause interference, it is necessary to conduct a preliminary study on behavior characteristics of touch interactions. Method: In utilization of smart phones with the 3D Touch function to measure press behavior characteristics of touch interaction, an experiment was conducted where 30 subjects were given a task to press 30 buttons of touch interactions on the screen. During the experiment, two press behavior characteristics-maximum touch pressure and press duration-were analyzed. To grasp changes in behaviors upon feedbacks, the task was carried out in a condition where there was no feedback and in a condition where there were feedbacks of specific critical values. Results: While there was no feedback given, subjects tended to press with much strength (318.98gf, 0.60sec) in the case of 3D Touch, and press the Long Press button for a while (157.12gf, 1.10sec) and press the Tap button with little strength only for a short moment (37.92gf, 0.10sec). 3D Touch and Long Press had an area of intersection in time, but when feedbacks of specific critical values were given, there were behavior calibration effects to adjust the press behavior characteristics of 3D Touch and Long Press. Conclusion: Although interferences are expected between 3D Touch and Long Press due to the similarity of press behaviors, feedbacks induce behavior calibration. Hence, once feedbacks were provided with 3D Touch operated in an appropriate condition of critical pressure, interference between two motions can be minimized. Application: The findings of this study are expected to be utilized as a basis for the values of optimal critical pressure, at which users can easily distinguish 3D Touch from Long Press which is the existing touch interaction.
