  • This study compares marital satisfaction between male and female rural migrants and explores the effects of characteristics of rural migrants and family values on marital satisfaction. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The survey included 483 migrants living in rural communities of North Jeolla Province and South Jeolla Province. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, cross tables, the t-test, correlations, and a hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 21.0. According to the results, marital satisfaction was higher in men than in women. In addition, the effects of characteristics of rural migrants and family values on marital satisfaction were greater in men than in women. The major determinant of marital satisfaction in men was economical preparation, whereas that in women was family values. Economical preparation for rural living was more important for men, and the sufficient understanding and internalization of rural living was more important for women. In particular, family values represented the main variable between men and women in terms of marital satisfaction. These results suggest that family relationships may be the most important factor influencing rural migrants' marital satisfaction and that spousal relationships may be the core factor influencing family relationships.

  • The rural tourism in Korea is expanding in scope including experience tours and integrating with dining industry these days. The Rural Development Administration in Korea has been supporting the farm restaurant project across the nation as part of its efforts to utilize local or rural food recipes as tourism resource for seven years. Over the years, however, case studies are rarely done or reported regarding physical environment of farm restaurants. This study offers an opportunity for farm restaurateurs and policy makers related to recognize the importance of developing brand identity and inner culture contents for the rural community by presenting a case of integrated design marketing. In the study, definitions of the "authentic food" in Korea and other countries are compared before farm restaurants at home and abroad are investigated. It also addresses the foundation on the significance of physical environment and design to build a brand identity of authentic food. The case presented is naming, designing and developing logos and design applicable to various product packages for "Hwanggeum Bori Aechan", which is the barley (main crop in Gimje)- dish development project for Gimje, North Jeolla Province in 2012.

  • This study purposed to survey grandparents' difficulties in parenting their grand children at grandparent-grandchild households in South Jeolla rural areas. This study was conducted through in-depth interviews from January to October, 2008. The subjects were eight grandparents living with their grandchildren in Boseong-gun, Gangjin-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, Hampyeong-gun, Haenam-gun and Damyang-gun in South Jeolla province. The results are as follows: the grandparents' difficulties in parenting grandchildren are divided into four categories of variable factors: 'Difficulties related to grandparents themselves'; 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren'; 'Difficulties related to early childhood education institution: and 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren's peer group or surrounding people'. The main difficulties in these categories are 'poor, aging and weak conditions of grandparents: 'conflicts in their parenting attitude to have compassion on grandchildren: 'grandparents' not enough educational support to grandchildren due to their ignorance about today's education system: and 'anxiety about the possibility for their grandchildren to be abandoned once again.' These results can be used as a piece of basic information for desirable supports to grandparent-grandchild households.

  • Recently planification and effort for management, assessment and discovery of geological heritagesare being increasingly demanded with institutional strategies such as geopark, as their preservation is asked socially. In this study, we discovered geological heritages in the Jeolla Province and then performed assessment of the value and grading of them and finally suggested a promising and suitable site for the National Geopark. A total of 325 geological heritages are listed on literature review and then detailed description in field and assessment of the value for selected 158 geoheritages are completed. The assessment items are categorized into intrinsic value, subsidiary value, and preservation/management part. The intrinsic value is subdivided into scientific/educational value, composed of representativeness, rarity, geodiversity, typicality, reproducibility, and particularity, and geomorphological/landscape value composed of scale, naturality (integrity), scenery (aesthetic value). Also, subsidiary value consist of 7 subsections of soil function, ecological function, tourism value, geological resource, historical value, folk tale or legend and symbolic value, and accessibility, convenient facility (infrastructure), management condition (legal protection) is evaluated in preservation/management part. The heritages in the Jeolla Province subdivided into three types: 73 geological heritages, 42 geomorphological heritages, and 42 composite heritages. Based on points acquired in intrinsic value, all geological heritages are graded Class-I to -V. As a result, numbers of geoheritage belong to Class-I (protection at world level), -II (protection at national level), -III (nationdesignated management), -IV (involved management list), -V (candidate management list) are 12, 39, 52, 34, 21, respectively. Finally, we construct database based on Arc-GIS with all informations for each geological heritage and suggest three promising and suitable sites, 'Jirisan-Seomjingang Area' and 'south coast area of Jeolla Province', for the National Geopark.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the distribution status and UI(urbanization index) of the naturalized plants and exotic plants. For this purpose 7 cities and counties in the northern South Jeolla Province were selected and investigations were conducted on a total of 14 sites, two sites from each city or county, during the period of March to November 2006. The exotic plants were identified as 111 taxa; 26 families, 79 genera, 105 species, and 6 varieties. As for urbanization index, Hampyeong County had the highest level of urbanization(21.95%) and Gokseong County the lowest level of urbanization(16.38%). Naturalized plants classified as family were as follows: Compositae was 36 kinds(32.43%) Graminae 17 kinds(15.31%) and Leguminosae 7 kinds(6.31%). Major communities of naturalized plants consisted of 21 communities including Robinia pseudoacacia-Amorpha fruticosa community, Erigeron annuus community, Erigeron canadensis community etc. Invasive naturalized plants consisted of 7 taxa: Paspalum disticum var. indutum, Paspalum distichum, Rumex acetocella, Solanum carolinense, Aster pilosus, Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior and Ambrosia trifida. The study shows that the integrated management of exotic plants on a national scale is needed. It also recommend that a systematic and integrated management of exotic plants in the northern South Jeolla Province is crucial to preserve and protect natural species.

  • Migratory insect pest populations migrate from the southern China to Korea through jet streams. In Korea, 5 major migratory insect species are important, i.e. Nilaparvata lugens, Sogatella furcifera, Laodelphax striatellus, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis and Mythimma separate, which are damages to the major crops, rice. This study was conducted from late July 2016 to early September 2016 and from July 2017 to August 2017 in rice paddy of Jeolla-province. C. medinalis and M. separata collected using pheromone traps, while N. lugens, S. furcifera and L. striatellus collected using 3 methods (visual surveys, sweeping surveys, sticky traps). SADIE (Spatial Analysis by Distance IndicEs) among geostatistics was used to analyze migratory insect pests. SADIE was used to analyze spatial distribution and index of aggregation $I_a$, index of clustering $V_i$, $V_j$ were used to investigate the spatial distribution. Also, the clustering indices were mapped as red-blue plot. C. medinalis and M. separata showed different distribution based on SADIE spatial aggregation analysis and red-blue plot analysis. Initial spatial distributions of L. striatellus and other planthoppers were differed for sampling location and time.

  • The purpose of this study is to minimize physical obstacles, to propose how we can improve them, and to get the basic information to establish the welfare policy for handicapped students in the university dormitory by studying and analyzing actual conditions of existing facilities and its improving transition which provide most important living accommodation to university students. To carry out this study, they have been surveyed 10 Universities in Korea as a case study which 1 university in Seoul & Kyunggi province, 2 universities in Chungchung province, 5 universities in Jeolla province and 2 universities in Kyungsang province. And they have been studied in relation to the law, theory of the architectural planning & design, and general consideration about handicapped people. As a result the checklist about the facilities was made. The term of survey was in August 2001 and in September 2004. It is concluded that most of universities which have been surveyed were equipped with good facilities for general students without regards for handicapped people at that time. As you can see the result of this research, the facilities of boarding house for handicapped people are very scanty in many universities. So they must be required facilities for handicapped people in the stage of architectural programming, the process of designing the dormitory facility.
