  • In order to understand the initial feeding time of larvae red marbled rockfish, Sebastiscus tertius changes of mouth size were investigated. Also, the fecundity of different size of red marbled rockfish broodstocks was measured. The broodstocks of red marbled rockfish, S. terius of $32.3\pm6.52 cm$ and larger than 45cm in total length spawned 296,648 and 600,000 larvae, respectively. About 50% was normal healthy larvae among the spawned ones. Mouth sizes calculated by the angle mouth opening and upper jaw length for newly spawned red marbled rockfish larvae were 0.263, 0.197 and 0.132 mm at D, 0.75D and 0.5D, respectively, when the upper jaw length was 0.186mm. Thereafter, 20 days old larvae showed 0.822, 0.617 and 0.411 mm in calculated mouth length at D, 0.75D and rockfish larvae grows, their upper jaw length gradually increased. 2 days old red marbled rockfish larvae possibly stated to feed rotifers and lasted their feeding for the another 35days, relatively long periods compared with other larvae fish. And 25 days old larvae possibly fed the newly hatched Artemia nauplii and lasted their feeding for the another 20 days, like other larvae fish. The proper supplying time of artificial feeds for the red marbled rockfish larvae seemed to be around 10 days after spawning.

  • The authors had observed a case of cleidocranial dysostosis of 42 years old unmarried woman. The observation was founded upon roentgenogram of skull P-A view, orthopantomograph, cephalometric view, chest P-A view and wrist X-ray view. The patient gave a dwarfic impression with 145㎝ body height and concaved mandibular prognastic facial feature. The palate was narrowed and extremely high arched. The eruption state of teeth were extremely poor, only four teeth were erupted, composed of upper third molar and lower three deformed teeth. The skull P-A view of roentgenogram reveals overlying metopic suture, extends from the nasion to the sagittal suture, and the suture are delayed up to date and many wormian bones are formed. On the cephalometric view the maxilla is underdeveloped and produce the false mandibular prognathism. Twenty four impacted teeth can be detected by orthopantmograph, twelve in upper jaw and twelve in lower jaw. There are many supernumerary teeth, one in upper jaw and seven in lower jaw. On the chest P-A view, the clavicles are totally aplastic, but a vestige of clavicle is visible in the right side. On the wrist roentgenogram, the epiphyseal ossification of distal phalanx, mesial phalanx and proximal phalanx is delayed.

  • The purposes of this study were to compare the soft tissue changes following hard tissue change after surgery between the one jaw and two-jaw surgery in skeletal class III patients and to get the reference of the incisal inclination at presurgical orthodontics. For this study 24 patients for the two-jaw surgery group and 18 patients for one jaw surgery group were selected. Lateral cephalograms were taken at pretreatment, after presurgical orthodontic treatment, immediately after surgical treatment and at least 6 months after surgery. They were traced and analyzed on skeletodental structure and soft tissue. The results were as follows: 1. After surgery, maxilla, maxillary incisors and upper lip were moved anteriorly and superiorly in two-jaw surgery group. Mandible and mandibular incisors were moved posteriorly and superiorly, and thickness of lower lip was increased in both group but there were no statistically significant difference. Anterior facial height was more decreased in two-jaw surgery group (p<0.05). At least 6 months after surgery, by the postorthodontic treatment, maxillary incisors were moved labially 1.44mm, mandible and mandiibular incisors were moved lingually 1.43mrn, 1.26mm respectively in one jaw surgery group. But there was no statistically significant changes of hard tissue in two :jaw surgery group. 2. The correlation coefficients of maxillary hard and soft tissue horizontal changes were high in two jaw surgery group and the ratios for soft tissue to A point were 19% at Sri, 80% at SLS, 82% at LS. The ratios for soft tissue to B point were 92% at LI, 104% at ILS in one jaw surgery group, 89% at LI, 101% at ILS in two-jaw surgery group. 3. The correlation coefficients and change ratios of mandibular incisors and LL HS on lower lip horizontal changes were 0 0.89 and 75%, 85% in one jaw surgery group, 0.93, 0.90 and 76%, 87% in two-jaw surgery group. The correlation coefficients of maxillary incisors and Sn, SLS and LS on upper lip horizontal changes were 072, 0.76 and 0.75 in two jaw surgery group and ratios of changes were 57%, 58% and 59%. 4. The regression equations between skeletal horizontal discrepancy and incisal inclinaton were taken in one jaw surgery group. Those were FMIA=57.48-2.17ANB, U1-SN=-75.02+2.17SNB and $R^2$ were 0.63, 063 respectively. So if there is skeletal horizontal discrepancy by mandibular prognathism in one jaw surgery case, we consider attaining more labial inclination of maxillary incisors than normal and more lingual inclination of mandibular incisors than normal. But correlation coefficient of the regression equations in two jaw surgery group was low, so, that equation was not reliable.

  • Cerebrovascular Accident(stroke) is that a sudden, nonconvulsive loss of neurologic function due to an ischemic or hemorrhagic intracranial vascular event. If stroke happens at the portion of trigeminal motor nucleus or its control part of cerebral cortex, masticatory muscles will be atrophy or paralyzed. So it is possible that dental occlusion changes after stroke. A 74-aged woman recurred mild stroke 2 month ago, who had experienced severe stroke 2 years ago. After recurrence, suddenly her upper full denture was dropped when lower denture contacted upper one. According to the her occlusion exam, her lower jaw moved back slightly compared with the occlusion of old denture. And her face had asymmetry and lower jaw dislocated to paralyzed side. A 50-aged man was treated because many cervical caries, which would occur because of an aftereffect of stroke, long-herm hospitalization and limits of self oral-care. 6 years ago he had cerebral hemorrhage and he claimed that he cannot bite exactly. Just two pairs of teeth was contact on biting, his lower jaw was located back, too. This two case suggests that dental occlusion can change after stroke.

  • MDO(Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) methodology is a new technology to solve a complicate design problem with a large number of design variables and constraints. The design of a dental implant system is a typical complicate problem, and so it requires the MDO methodology. Actually, several analyses such as rigid body dynamic analysis and structural stress analysis etc. should be carried out in the MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system. In this paper, as a first step of MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system, the impact force which is applied on the tooth in masticating is calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis of upper and lower jaw-bones. This analysis is done using ADAMS. The impact force calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis can be used for the structural stress analysis of a dental implant system which is needed for the design of a dental implant system. In addition, the rigid body dynamic analysis results also show that the impact time decreases as the impact force increases, the largest impact force occurs on the front tooth, and the impact force is almost normal to the tooth surface with a slight tangential force.

  • Numbers of postulations lie on the difference of integumental changes with two major surgical remedies of one jaw vs. two jaw surgery in skeletal Class III malocclusion. Accordingly it was the aim of the study to elucidate the skeletal profile changes with an accompanying disposition of soft tissues, consequently to yield the correlation and ratio of soft tissue changes with two types of surgical procedures, which in turn make it possible to predict the soft tissue outcomes by means of assembled regression equations. Cephalometric headfilms of fifty two adult skeletal Class III comprised of 26 maxillary advancement by Le Fort I osteotomy and mandibular setback by sagittal split ramus osteotomy simultaneously (double jaw surgery, group A), 26 mandibular setback alone (one jaw surgery, group B) were statistically analyzed. Group A manifested 72.4% soft tissue advancement to skeletal changes in the upper lip area, while group B appeared to have no statistically significant changes. The nasolabial angle showed more increment in group A than in group B, whereas the mentolabial angle illustrated more reduction in group B. The backward movement of soft tissue pogonion to skeletal change revealed 98% in group A, and 109% in group B. The double jaw surgery group characteristically revealed remarkable integ umental change in the upper lip area, while the one jaw surgery had major effects in the lower lip and soft tissue pogonion areas.

  • The author studied age and sex distribution, etiology, affected site and several radiographic features of osteomyelitis of the jaw. And radiologic classification of osteomyelitis was also done. The material consisted of 118 males and 96 females examined and/or treated under the diagnosis of osteomyelitis during past 11 years (1970-1980.6) in SNUDH. The obtained results were as followings. 1. The incidence is the highest in teenages(22.9%) and the lowest in seventies. (2.8%). 2. 199 cases were found in lower jaw, and 15 cases in upper jaw. 30.8% of all cases were located at the posterior portion of mandibular body comprising alveolar region. 3. Radiographic examination of osteolytic lesion revealed that 21. 5% of all patients had periapical and alveolar bone rarefaction combined with osteoporotic changes and that in most of patients two or more of the above described changes were present at the same time. 4. Sclerotic lesions were seen in 62.2 % of all patients and 21.5% of sclerotic lesion were diffuse or homogenuous type. 5. Based on the radiologic study, classification of the osteomyelitis of the jaw was made. Loclized osteolytic type was the highest in incidence (38.8%) and localized sclerotic type was the lowest (7.0%)

  • The contemporary two-jaw surgical approach usually involves a Le Fort osteotomy of the maxilla and a ramal osteotomy of the mandible with 3-dimensional repositioning of the jaws as well as the occlusal planes. After making the surgical treatment plan. the surgical movements are duplicated in the model surgery. During this procedure, reference poings and lines are drawn on the base of the models over the dental arch and sawcuts are mads according to these marked osteotomy lines. This technique, however, has been found to be inexact. especially when the laws are moved in several dimensions simultaneously. To overcome this. different methods have been developed for an accurate repositioning of the jaws as planned. A new appliance. Surgical Jaw Relater, has been devised by th8 author for the simple 3-dimensional relocation of the upper and lower models, resulting in the easy construction of the splints such as centric relation splint, intermediate and final splint. This article describes an introduction and a clinical application of this appliance. Through the application of this system to the orthognathic cases including two-law surgery. it is proved that the row device is very clinically useful.
