  • We have released five Java Application Programming Interface (API) packages for viewing three-dimensional structures of proteins from the Protein Data Bank. To this end, the user interface of an earlier version has been refactored in an object-oriented fashion, in which refactoring is the process of changing a software system to improve its internal structure, without altering the external behavior. Various GUI design and features have been provided conveniently thanks to the Model-View-Control (MVC) model, which is an architectural pattern used in software engineering.   • 최근 컴퓨터 기술의 발전과 함께 Mobile 컴퓨터 환경도 함께 급속히 발전하고 있다. 이로 인해 오프라인 컴퓨팅 및 네트워킹을 이용하던 사용자들이 Mobile 컴퓨팅 환경을 자주 이용하게 되고, Mobile 솔루션에 대한 사용자의 요구도 다양화되고 있는 추세이다. 이 중 Mobile 지도 서비스는 휴대하기 편한 Pocket PC라고도 불리는 PDA(Personal Digital Assistants)는 자신의 현재 위치를 확인할 수 있는 GPS(Global Positioning System)가 급속도로 보급됨으로써 Mobile 환경에서 가장 활용도가 높은 서비스로 부각되고 있다. 가까운 미래의 IT기술은 GPS와 PDA 등을 연계한 e포지션의 폭발적인 이용 증대와 국내 원천기술에 의한 세계적인 사업모델의 탄생이 눈앞에 현실로 다가오고 있다는 점을 감안하면, GPS를 활용한 Mobile 기술력 확보는 국가적 차원에서 대단히 중요하다는 견지를 같이하는 전문가들이 많다. 이러한 시대적 요구 환경 하에서, 본 논문에서는 JAVA VM 기반의 무선위치추적 제어미들웨어와 GIS 프로그램(Vector MAP Viewer)을 구축함으로써 APTS의 효율성에 관한 연구를 제안하고, 앞으로의 향후 개선방향을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 텍스트(Text)와 이미지(Image)만을 지원하던 EPUB2.0에서 오디오(Audio), 비디오(Video), 벡터 그래픽(SVG), 벡터 수학식(MathML), 다중 CSS3, 무제한 글꼴 내장, 세로쓰기, 자바 스크립트(Java Script) 등의 멀티미디어(Multimedia) 기능을 지원하는 EPUB3.0이 발표되면서 전자책의 시장이 더욱 발전하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 최근 동향에 따라 EPUB3.0 기반의 전자책 리더를 EPUB File Controller, EPUB File Analyzer, File Analyzer, EPUB Viewer로 분류하여 설계하고 다양한 콘텐츠를 N-Screen에서 사용할 수 있도록 구현하였다.

Open Digital Textbook for Smart Education (스마트교육을 위한 오픈 디지털교과서)

  • In Smart Education, the roles of digital textbook is very important as face-to-face media to learners. The standardization of digital textbook will promote the industrialization of digital textbook for contents providers and distributers as well as learner and instructors. In this study, the following three objectives-oriented digital textbooks are looking for ways to standardize. (1) digital textbooks should undertake the role of the media for blended learning which supports on-off classes, should be operating on common EPUB viewer without special dedicated viewer, should utilize the existing framework of the e-learning learning contents and learning management. The reason to consider the EPUB as the standard for digital textbooks is that digital textbooks don't need to specify antoher standard for the form of books, and can take advantage od industrial base with EPUB standards-rich content and distribution structure (2) digital textbooks should provide a low-cost open market service that are currently available as the standard open software (3) To provide appropriate learning feedback information to students, digital textbooks should provide a foundation which accumulates and manages all the learning activity information according to standard infrastructure for educational Big Data processing. In this study, the digital textbook in a smart education environment was referred to open digital textbook. The components of open digital textbooks service framework are (1) digital textbook terminals such as smart pad, smart TVs, smart phones, PC, etc., (2) digital textbooks platform to show and perform digital contents on digital textbook terminals, (3) learning contents repository, which exist on the cloud, maintains accredited learning, (4) App Store providing and distributing secondary learning contents and learning tools by learning contents developing companies, and (5) LMS as a learning support/management tool which on-site class teacher use for creating classroom instruction materials. In addition, locating all of the hardware and software implement a smart education service within the cloud must have take advantage of the cloud computing for efficient management and reducing expense. The open digital textbooks of smart education is consdered as providing e-book style interface of LMS to learners. In open digital textbooks, the representation of text, image, audio, video, equations, etc. is basic function. But painting, writing, problem solving, etc are beyond the capabilities of a simple e-book. The Communication of teacher-to-student, learner-to-learnert, tems-to-team is required by using the open digital textbook. To represent student demographics, portfolio information, and class information, the standard used in e-learning is desirable. To process learner tracking information about the activities of the learner for LMS(Learning Management System), open digital textbook must have the recording function and the commnincating function with LMS. DRM is a function for protecting various copyright. Currently DRMs of e-boook are controlled by the corresponding book viewer. If open digital textbook admitt DRM that is used in a variety of different DRM standards of various e-book viewer, the implementation of redundant features can be avoided. Security/privacy functions are required to protect information about the study or instruction from a third party UDL (Universal Design for Learning) is learning support function for those with disabilities have difficulty in learning courses. The open digital textbook, which is based on E-book standard EPUB 3.0, must (1) record the learning activity log information, and (2) communicate with the server to support the learning activity. While the recording function and the communication function, which is not determined on current standards, is implemented as a JavaScript and is utilized in the current EPUB 3.0 viewer, ths strategy of proposing such recording and communication functions as the next generation of e-book standard, or special standard (EPUB 3.0 for education) is needed. Future research in this study will implement open source program with the proposed open digital textbook standard and present a new educational services including Big Data analysis.

Design of Visual Tool for Efficient Descripting of Binary ECG File Formats (바이너리 심전도 파일 포맷의 효율적인 디스크립션을 위한 시각적 도구 설계)

  • In this study, A BED(Binary ECG description) based binary ECG conversion system is that supports the conversion of a binary ECG format into XML-based HL7 aECG for interoperability of ECG. HL7 aECG is a XML based standard lot interoperability of ECG waveform. However, it is difficult for beginners to write the BED document of binary BED conversion system in XML. We implement a BED Studio on the Java Servlet engine that allows beginners to write BED documents more easily. Our system consists of three parts: Visual Editor, Text Editor, and Format Checking Viewer. Format Checking Viewer support users to detect the format errors in the XML files, so-called BED documents, that describe the data format of the targer binary ECG file in the BED-based binary ECG conversion system, so may reduce the format errors in BED documents.

Design and Implementation of the Web-based Monitoring System for an Artificial Heart (웹 기반 인공심장 모니터링 시스템의 설계와 구현)

  • The remote monitoring system including hemodynamic information and pump status of the implanted animal could be helpful during the in vivo experiment or clinical trial for an artificial heart Implantation. In order to monitor the course of the in vivo experiment continuously and anywhere, web-based remote monitoring system was developed, which can monitor pressures(AoP, LAP, RAP, PAP) and flow information as well as the pump operating conditions. The system consists of data sending, storing viewer part. The data sending part was constructed using component object model and the viewer part was constructed using the Java applet. In addition, the dialog box was introduced to communicate earth other instantly and the alarming function was also introduced when the hemodynamic values were out of the desired ranges. The developed remote monitoring system was applied during the in vivo experiment of the BVAD (Bi-ventricular Assist Device) implantation for 1 month and showed designed work without failure.

  • The First Generation Digitized Sky Survey (DSS-I) is a collection of digitized photographic atlases of the night sky taken from the Palomar Observatory (northen sky) and the Anglo-Australian Observatory (southern sky). DSS-I is widely used by the astronomical community for a number of applications including object cross-identification and astrometry. However, accessing and retrieving the actual images are nontrivial owing to the huge size (> 60 GB) of the dataset. To facilitate retrieval process of DSS-I data for the public, Korean Astronomical Data Center (KADC) developed a web application that provides not only data retrieval but also visualization functions. The web application consists of several modules developed using Java Applet, Jave Servlet, and JaveServer Pages (JSP) technologies. It allows users to retrieve images efficiently in various formats such as FITS, JPEG, GIF, and TIFF, and also offers an interactive visulization tool, ImgViewer, for displaying/analyzing FITS images. To use the web application, users require a Java-enabled web browser.

CoVNC : An Extension of VNC for Efficient Collaboration (CoVNC : 효과적인 협업을 위한 VNC의 확장)

  • VNC 프로그램은 RFB(Remote Frame Buffer) 프로토콜을 사용하여 멀리 떨어진 시스템의 자원을 GUI(Graphic User Interface)를 통해 효과적으로 제어 할 수 있는 기능을 제공한다. 이를 이용하여 효과 적인 동기식 협업 작업을 지원하는 시스템을 구성할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 Ultra VNC 프로그램과 RFB 프로토콜을 확장하여 같은 시간에 일어나는 인터넷 기반 협업 작업을 효과적으로 지원할 수 있는 CoVNC의 개발에 대해 기술한다. CoVNC를 사용하는 협업 작업장제공자나 협업 참여자가 협업 시스템의 구성과 실행에 대한 노력을 들이지 않으며 협업 작업에 몰두 할 수 있도록, 서버 설정을 저장하는 기능과 클라이언트가 한 번의 클릭으로 서버 접속을 할 수 있는 기능을 제공한다. 또한 작업장을 제어 할 수 있는 권한과 제어할 수 없는 권한, 그리고 클라이언트의 권한과 접속을 관리하는 관리자 권한을 제공하여 협업 작업에서의 혼선과 악의적인 작업 방해를 막을 수 있다. 이러한 기능을 지원하기 위하여 Ultra VNC 서버를 확장하여 CoVNC 서버를 개발하였으며, Java Viewer 클라이언트를 확장하여 CoVNC 클라이언트를 개발하였고, RFB 프로토콜을 확장하여 서버와 클라이언트가 새로운 기능에 대한 메시지를 주고받을 수 있도록 하였다.

Towards Texture-Based Visualization of Multivariate Dataset

  • Visualization is a science which makes the invisible to visible through the techniques of experimental visualization and computer-aided visualization. This paper presents the practical aspects of visualization of multivariate dataset. In this paper, we will briefly discuss a previous research work and introduce a new visualization technique which will help us to design and develop a visualization tool for experimental visualization of multivariate dataset. Our newly developed visualization tool can be used in various domains. In this paper, we have chosen a software industry as an application domain and we used the multivariate dataset of software components computed by VizzMaintenance. VizzMaintenance is software analysis tool which give us multiple software metrics of open source Java based programs. Main objective of this research is to develop a new visualization tool for large multivariate dataset which will be more efficient and easy to perceive by viewer. Perception is very important for our research work and we have decided to test the perception level of our proposed visualization approach by researchers of our research lab.

An Utilizing Method for Multi-View Video Clips under Digital Broadcasting Environments (디지털방송 데이터서비스의 방송프로그램 영상 멀티 뷰 활용 지원 방법)

  • The development of the digital compression technology and the broadcasting receiver's processing power make it possible to apply a multi-view function to the broadcasting services. The multi-view function is usually utilized to provide simultaneously several programs to viewers or to implement a multi-angle service of a sports program that allows a viewer to choose a video of his/her prefer viewpoint. The paper proposes an integrated method for utilizing a multi-view function in the digital broadcasting environment in which more than 100 programs are on air and there may be various data services which want to use multi-view video clips. For the purpose, a method of composing and transmitting multi-view videos and related information has been devised and a Java API to utilize the rapid editing function of a decoding chip-set has been implemented to clip, resize, and display parts of the multi-view videos.
