  • This experiment has investigated the effect of growth, yield and fruit quality of fig plant by different concentration of nutrient solution. Nutrient solution for pig plant were three concentrations of the balanced nutrient formula development by Japanese Horticultural Experiment Station. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter and number of fruit per plant were the best at 1/2 concentration. However, leaf length and leaf width did not show any difference in other treatment. Fruit length, fruit diameter and soluble solids did not differ from the different concentration of nutrient solutions. However, the fruit weight of fig plant was heavier by hydroponics than by soil culture in 2nd experiment. Early stage growth of fig plant was better at low concentration of nutrient solution and yield was better at high concentration. The result of this experiment will be utilized in the new application for fig plant hydroponics.

  • The effect of nutrient concentration and plant growth regulators on rooting of Coleus stem cuttings were investigated. In contrast to sand cutting, the nutrient solution or plant growth regulator treatment increased the root numbers and root length. The concentration of nutrient solution were 1, l/2 and 1/4 strength of the balanced nutrient solution developed by Japanese Horticultural Experimental Station and the highest root growth was obtained from 1/4 strength nutrient concentration. NAA or IBA treatment in culture solution stimulated the rooting and 0.01mg/l of NAA or IBA was effective in root development. Furthermore, days for rooting were shortened and root growth were promoted by mixing nutrient solutions with plant growth regulators and by using cutting with leaves. The rooting of Coleus was observed under microscope and the adventitious root formation initiated at 3 days after cutting with nutrient and auxin mixture.

  • Contemporary topic of the culture is turning to the Nature. In this situation, The Paradigms of realization about Human body and medical science are changing. The new interpretation of the value of Health is another method of recovering the Nature. Oriental medicine has mainly dealt with health preserving idealogy in origin, and pursued it. Get out of the curing medicine, the health preserving idealogy which aims to live up to one's lifespan has been becoming the main idea of Oriental medicine. In this respect, we can extract insperation from the concept of Meebyung and preventive treatments which came from the ideas of preventive medicine in Oriental medicine. Among the researches of Meebyung in Oriental medical classics and in Oriental tri-countries, we grasped and analyzed the trends of them. In connection with the most fundamental project in Meebyung study which is to set up the concept of Meebyung, we inspected the standards which can categorize and diagnose Meebyung. In contrast with 'Ibyeong', Meebyung in Oriental medical classics can be attained from living in harmony with the Nature, four seasons, Eum-and-Yang and the Five Phases. However the classification of Meebyung, Yogbyeong, Ibyeong in medical classics made foundation of post preventive medicine. From the various studies we can find as follws. Promting national project in Meebyung, China is trying to reestablish classifications of Meebyung, as Japanese Meebyung scholars are focusing on quantitative methods. Although there are not enough research products, Korea must absorb the products of such other countries, as to categorize Meebyung through the pattern identification system of Oriental medicine, and achieve our goal of promotion of health.

  • The principal objective of this study was to determine the effects of service quality in a Korean restaurant in a Five Star Hotel in Metropolitan city causes on customers satisfaction, revisiting intentions and word of mouth communication. As a component of the study, 344 customers who had visited restaurants at 4 hotels were selected for our Q&A research, Our investigation was conducted largely frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. First, as one of our study results, factors causing effects in service quality can be categorized into human service factors, physical service factors, and menu service factors. Second, the service quality of Korean restaurants has been found to exert effects on customer satisfaction, revisiting intentions, and word-of-mouth communication. Third, customer satisfaction has been determined to exert significant effects on revisiting intentions and word of mouth communication. Fourth, customer revisiting intentions has been found have been shown to exert significant effects on word-of-mouth communication. As one of the limits of this study, some difficulties did occur when attempting to implement Q&A research on customers who enjoyed restaurant services, as there was not sufficient space to interview them. As another limit, this study was conducted only with test subjects who had visited Korean restaurants in Five Star Hotels the results of our study cannot, then, be considered represent active of all Korean restaurants. Consistent with this future studies will need to be conducted not only with Korean restaurants, but also with Japanese, Chinese, and Western restaurants.

  • This study was conducted to obtain data for identification of species among elvers of anguillids, Anguilla japonica and A. anguilla and A. rostrata implanted in Korea for culture. The longer predorsal length and the fewer number of vertebrae distinguished elvers of A. rostracta from those of A. anguilla and A. japonica. A. japonica and A. anguilla were well discriminated each other in the statistical value of preanal length which the former showed shorter distance. It was remarked phylogenetically that the morphological changes according to growth in head and predorsal length of A. rostrata was different from other two species. So the elvers of A. japonica, A. anguilla and A. rostrata culturing in Korea can be distinguished by the vertebral counts, predorsal and preanal length.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the architectural character of JE-DAMG at farm village in Ulsan. JE-DANG means the building for DONG-JE (the sacrificial rite of a village). The regions of this study are KANG-DONG MYEN, and UNG-CHON MYEN in Ulsan. The method of this study is the analysis of them after the actual field surveys of 47 JE-DANGs in these regions The survey contains the area, the height, the period of the erection, the architectural structure, the roof shape, the material, the landowner, SHIN-CHE (means a god's name and shape), DANG-SU tree and so on. Methods of the survey are the field survey, the interview of villager, the analysis of reference data and so on. Results of the study are below. JE-DANGs(buildings) of these regions had been built first in the period of Japanese occupancy and erections of them had continued until 1970's. Since then, they have been rebuilt. The primary JE-DANG is characterized by a tiled roof, a wooden post lintel, a mud-plastered wall, and a wooden door. After rebuilding, characters are a flat slab, a tiled roof, a structure of using red bricks, and the area is getting larger than the primary JE-DANG, but 1 KAN persists without variety. Most of houses in the inland area like UNG-CHON MYEN face the south, and ones in the coastal area like KANG-BONG MYEN face the east. Generally there is DANG-SU tree behind JE-DANG. That proves DANG-SU tree to be the object of the rite. The species of DANG-SU is a pine in general ,but various in UNG-CHON MYEN. In general names of the god are DONG-SHIN , DANG-SAN SHIN and SUNG-HWANG SHIN. I think that the landownership of JE-DANG should change the private ownership into the village ownership to preserve JE-DANG though most of lands of JE-DANG are private ones.

  • The purpose of this study is to extract the color chip from the works of Matisse with the exotic tastes, to analyze the characters of adjacent colors, and to suggest the color coordination of artistic character. The research method is based on the literature study which analyzes visual materials. The results are as follows. Considering the colors of Japanese taste, He employs vivid and strong tone in red, yellow, and blue, light tone in pink, purple, and green and deep tone in green, purple, blue and black. His color scheme is very bold and splendid. In his Algerian taste, red is very popular, but an attention should be paid in his development of orange and blue tones. In general, the usage of various tones brings colors into less relief and make the contrast of tones more conspicuous. His Spanish taste, based on red and orange, attracts attentions with strong impressions, but sometimes, dark or adjacent pale tones creates strong, mild and murky atmosphere. The Moroccan taste, based on the development of blue tones which have strong attraction implies the lightness but represents silent and calm. The Rumanian taste, represented in primary colors of red, yellow and blue and achromatic colors is bright and clear. In addition, its light tone in various colors represents peace and romance. The coordination of the exotic colors with the unique adjacent colors created by Matisse is not based on the established color coordination theory, but extracts colors in the aspect of culture borrowing. Therefore, it can double the effects of the color scheme expressed in the existing designs and be used as the global and multi-cultural design sources.

  • Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) was first described by Berliner [10] when he isolated a Bacillus species from the Mediterranean flour moth, Anagasta kuehniella, and named it after the province Thuringia in Germany where the infected moth was found. Although this was the first description under the name B. thuringiensis, it was not the first isolation. In 1901, a Japanese biologist, Ishiwata Shigetane, discovered a previously undescribed bacterium as the causative agent of a disease afflicting silkworms. Bt was originally considered a risk for silkworm rearing but it has become the heart of microbial insect control. The earliest commercial production began in France in 1938, under the name Sporeine [72]. A resurgence of interest in Bt has been attributed to Edward Steinhaus [105], who obtained a culture in 1942 and attracted attention to the potential of Bt through his subsequent studies. In 1956, T. Angus [3] demonstrated that the crystalline protein inclusions formed in the course of sporulation were responsible for the insecticidal action of Bt. By the early 1980's, Gonzalez et al. [48] revealed that the genes coding for crystal proteins were localized on transmissible plasmids, using a plasmid curing technique, and Schnepf and Whiteley [103] first cloned and characterized the genes coding for crystal proteins that had toxicity to larvae of the tobacco hornworm, from plasmid DNA of Bt subsp. kurstaki HD-1. This first cloning was followed quickly by the cloning of many other cry genes and eventually led to the development of Bt transgenic plants. In the 1980s, several scientists successively demonstrated that plants can be genetically engineered, and finally, Bt cotton reached the market in 1996 [104].

  • To induce adventitious buds, hypocotyl and cotyledonary explants from 7 to 10 day-old seedlings of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.: two Japanese cultivars of crisphead lettuce and four Korean cultivars of leaf lettuce) were cultured or Murashige and Skoog (MS) and Schenk and Hildebrandt (SH) media supplemented with BA and NAA in the light for five weeks. Cotyledonary explants produced adventitious shoots at greater frequencies than hypocotyl explants. MS medium was more favorable to adventitious shoot formation than HS medium. Combination of 0.5 mg/L BA and 0.1 to 1 mg/L HPh in MS medium led to the greatest frequency (86%) in adventitious shoot formation. Creator than 95% of shoots excised from explants were rooted when cultured on MS basal medium.
