The objective of this study was to find variables related to propensity of compensatory consumption of university students in Korean and Japan. Questionnaires research method was conducted and 477 samples were selected. Korean undergraduates have higher propensity of compensatory consumption for negative feelings than Japan undergraduates. Japan undergraduates have higher propensity of compensatory consumption for positive feelings than Korean undergraduates. Korean undergraduates have a tendency to compensate positive and negative feelings by drinking. Japan undergraduates have a tendency to compensate positive feelings by eating out, and to compensate negative feelings by buying books. In compensatory consumption for positive feelings, Korean undergraduates is influenced by group identity, but Japan undergraduates is influenced by reference group. Propensity of compensatory consumption of Korean undergraduates is mostly influenced by consumption tendency, materialism, group identity, and self-concept. Propensity of compensatory consumption of Japan undergraduates is influenced by consumption tendency, materialism, reference group, and their family income. The strongest predictor of propensity of compensatory consumption of Korean and Japan undergraduates is consumption tendency, followed by materialism.
This paper is to determine the clothing and footwear of urban household consumption expenditures and an analysis of historical data from relevant literature. Particularly, time-series and cross sectional analysis techniques are adopted in analysing the patterns of clothing and footwear consumption expenditures of urban households. Annual Report on the family Income and Expenditure Survey and M.R.A. in S.P.S.S. were used. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The proportion of the clothing and footwear expenditure has decreased with the increase of income in urban household during 1976-1987. 2.1) Household consumption function by Income group, the Lower group is higher than the other group. 2) Household consumption function by Occupation of household head. Income elasticity estimation in administrative managerial workers is higher than the other group. 3) Household consumption function by Family size. Income elasticity estimation in 6 Persons is higher than the other group. But 4 Persons is higher in 1986. 4) Household consumption function by Age of household head. Income elasticity estimation in 50 Years and over is higher than the other group. 3. Comparison of characteristics of clothing and footwear consumption expenditures in Korea and Japan were M.R.A. Generally, the priority correlation order for Korea is Outwear, Sweaters and Shirt, Other clothing. For Japan, the order is Sweaters and Shirts, Underwear, Services.
The purpose of this study is for researching consumptions of the Korean and Japanese's consumers and qualities on the bananas which rank first in market share of the fruits market. The survey was conducted from the 180 Korean women living in Gangnam and Bundang. It was also compared and analyzed on the basis of data from the Japanese's R company. This analysis was done using SPSS 12.0 Vir. and analyzed according to its purposes. First, the difference between Korea and Japan in terms of bananas intake was studied. Second, consumption situations and types of Korean and Japanese's women were compared and analyzed. Therefore, this is the basic analytic study for finding out Korean consumers' recognitions and purchase behaviors on the bananas compared those of Japan. This will be utilized as useful material to understand the domestic consumers' consumption behaviors of the bananas which are one of the imported agricultural products.
This paper analyzes the factors of renewable energy consumption in Korea, China and Japan. We consider renewable energy consumption per capita as dependent variable, GDP per capita, $CO_2$ emissions per capita and real oil prices as independent variables. To analyze this model, this paper uses three econometric methods such as OLS, fixed effect model and panel GLS, utilizing data from 1990 to 2006 in Korea, China and Japan. According to the results by OLS for each country, an increase in GDP per capita or $CO_2$ emissions per capita or oil prices leads to an increase in renewable energy consumption. According to the results by fixed effect model, an increase in GDP per capita or $CO_2$ emissions per capita leads to an increase in renewable energy consumption. And real oil prices do not have a significant impacts on this model. According to the results by panel GLS, an increase in real GDP per capita as a proxy of income leads to an increase renewable energy consumption. And both $CO_2$ emissions per capita and real oil prices do not correlated closely with renewable energy consumption. Thus oil is not substituted to renewable energy in Northeast asian countries.
Fishery products play an important role in Korean food culture, and awareness of the safety of fishery products is increasing in the seafood market. Against this backdrop, Japan has announced a plan to release radioactive water to the sea from 2023. In the case of Korea, it is adjacent to the area to be discharged, so there are concerns about securing the safety of marine products. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the change in perception and impact of marine product consumers due to the discharge of contaminated water and to study appropriate countermeasures when discharging contaminated water from nuclear power plants. In this study, the current status of radioactive contaminated water discharge in Japan was summarized, and a survey was conducted on the change in the consumption perception of marine products according to the discharge of contaminated water to analyze the factors affecting the consumption change of domestic consumers. According to the survey, 85.3% of the respondents said that it will affect the purchase of domestic marine products if Japan starts discharging contaminated water from nuclear power plants. Moreover, 85.5% of the respondents said it will affect the purchase of imported marine products.
Energy consumption in Korea and Japan has already progressed to high level. Especially, it will be important to take up the effort to achieve further energy savings in residential sector that has significant increase both nations. For this reason, research for energy consumption and saving method in residential sector compare Korea with Japan that of similar data to grasps the direction for energy savings. In addition for introduction of distributed energy system to residential sector, such as apartment house, the electricity and gas demand was simulated. To be more specific, several key characteristics were studied, such as housing type housing scale and width of common space.

The aim of this paper is to depict the social problems common to South Korea and Japan by comparing their consumption behaviors. For that purpose, we utilize the Survey of Household Economy of both countries and attempt to determine the similarities and differences between the two countries. Our empirical analysis revealed the following. First, although both countries are aging, the first quartile (the poorest in under the definition in this paper) in South Korea has aged more rapidly than in to Japan. As the wages in these two countries formerly increased with age, this substantial divergence in the age composition in the poorest quartile is a remarkable change and suggests that income inequality has been more widely spreading out in South Korea than in Japan. Furthermore, the education expenditure ratio in South Korea is statistically significant for higher income level, while this is not the case in Japan. If the opportunity for better education is dominated by wealthier households, the prompt implementation of a policy to break this vicious circle is necessary in South Korea.
How can we reconcile our aspirations for more economic growth or prosperity with the constraints of a finite planet? One of the high-income countries, Japan, makes us wonder if we can deal with two different challenges simultaneously: overcoming economic recession and solving environmental degradation. This study investigates the supply-side perspective which highlights the productive capacity and efficiency of the economy through economic lenses and the demand-side perspective which highlights the Japanese personal lifestyles through social lenses. This study aims to answer the question, if Japan's sustainable consumption behavior is counter to economic development whilst environmentally proactive. It finds that translating individual practices and cultures of sustainability into the macro- scopic economic growth path is key to a sustainable and healthy Japan.
