Reliability Test Recommendations of Transmission Level HTS Power Cable (송전급 초전도케이블 신뢰성평가를 위한 시험방법)

  • For last 10 years, there are big progress and many efforts in the development of HTS power equipments by some country including South Korea. Especially HTS cable system is the strongest candidate among them from the viewpoint of applying to real grid, because of the feature of it, compact and large capacity. In South Korea, transmission level 154kV, the world top voltage class, HTS cable system was installed and has been tested in KEPCO Gochang Underground Cable Test Field since the early of 2010 in order to meet test requirements made by KEPCO, the only grid company in South Korea. The type test of it will be completed by October 2010 and subsequently long-term load cycle test will be performed during 6 months. Also in the near future, KEPCO has a plan to demonstrate transmission level HTS cable system in real grid, in order to meet practical requirements and confirm the feasibility of it. This paper says the test plan of transmission level 154kV HTS cable system and the way how to test it.

A study on the Determination of Fracture Toughness (파괴인성치의 결정법에 대한 고찰)

  • Interest in fracture of structure has increased significantly over the past decade. New approaches to analyze structural performance have been accompanied by the development of test methods to characterize material behavior in a manner compatible with the analysis. Several test methods have been developed as a results of advances in fracture mechanics, for example, $K_{IC}$ , $J_{IC}$, R-curve tearing instability and CTOD approaches. Among the rest, fracture toughness $K_{IC}$ and $J_{IC}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in fracture mechanics. Generally, the determintion of $J_{IC}$ was performed according to ASTM E 813 or JSME S 001 and $K_{IC}$ was performed according to ASTM E 399. In this study, the test method for $K_{IC}$ and $J_{IC}$ were discussed.scussed.

The Whole Effluent Toxicity Tests of Wastewater Discharged from Various Wastewater Treatment Plants and Their Impact Analyses on Biological Component (폐수처리장의 전 방류수 독성 평가 및 방류수 배출하천의 생지표도 영향분석)

  • In this study, we performed whole effluent toxicity(WET) test and compared the biological component analyses tests for some streams into which wastewater treatment plant effluents are discharged. The test procedures for the WET test and the biological component analysis were conducted according to U.S. EPA guidelines and the Ohio EPA wading method. The WET tests based on the test species of D. manga and S. capricornutum All treatment plants showed a S. capricornutum toxicity, and at 7 sites, except A and J, we could observe a D. magna toxicity. The highest toxicity was observed at site D and this were followed by E and F. The biological component analyses applied to the effluent discharged stream. We found that total species were low at sites C1, D1 and J1 and the low number of total individuals were observed at sites A1, C1, E1, H1, and J1 compared to the controls and other sites. The species richness was low at sites A1, B1, C1, D1, and J1. The species change was evident at site D(D1) and the tolerant species was predominant. The biological analyses and WET tests suggested that the effluents resulted in massive ecosystem impact.

Analysis on the Impact of Composite by Using FEM (유한요소법을 이용한 복합재료의 충격에 관한 해석)

  • In this study, mechanical property on the composite material of aluminum foam core is investigated by simulation analysis. Impact energies such as 50J, 70J, and 100J are applied to the specimen model. The maximum load occurs at 3.4ms for 50J, 3.2ms for 70J, and 3.2ms for 100J respectively. The striker penetrates the upper face sheet, causing the core to be damaged at 50J test but the lower face sheet remains intact with no damage. It results in occurring with the energy of 52 J. At 70J test, it penetrates the upper face sheet and penetrated the core. And the striker causes the lower face sheet with damage. And it results in occurring with the energy of 65 J. Finally at 100J test, the striker penetrated both the upper face sheet and core and even the lower face sheet. The load becomes maximum at the time when striker penetrates through the upper plate and it rapidly reduced. And then the load increases rapidly when reaching the lower face sheet. And it decreases again. It results in occurring with the energy of 95 J.

Effect of Low Tempering Temperature on Corrosion Resistance of 420J2 Stainless Steel (420J2 스테인리스강의 내식성에 미치는 저온 템퍼링의 영향)

  • The effect of low tempering in a temperature range of $150{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ on corrosion resistance in 420J2 stainless steel austenitized at $1000^{\circ}C$ was investigated by the application of salt spray test, electrochemical pitting test in 3.5% NaCl solution and DL-EPR test for intergranular corrosion in 0.5M $H_2SO_4$+0.01M KSCN solution. In salt spray test, good corrosion resistance was obtained in a tempering temperature range of $150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. Pitting potential was increased to the tempering temperature of $250^{\circ}C$, but decreased with the increase of temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$ And it was thought that the degradation of pitting corrosion resistance showed at the tempering temperature of around $400^{\circ}C$ was due to the precipitation of $Cr_7C_3$ of $M_7C_3$ type. The degree of sensitization showed increasing tendency with the increase of tempering temperature, and also Cr depletion phenomena were observed in the vicinity of grain boundary.

  • Nanometer-sized structures are being applied to many devices including micro/nano electronics, optoelectronics, quantum devices, MEMS/NEMS, biosensors, etc. Especially, the thin film with submicron thickness is a basic structure for fabricating these devices, but its mechanical behaviors are not well understood. The mechanical properties of the thin film are different from those of the bulk structure and are difficult to measure because of its handling inconvenience. Several techniques have been applied to mechanical characterization of the thin film, such as nanoindentation test, micro/nano tensile test, strip bending test, etc. In this study, we focus on the strip bending test because of its high accuracy and moderate specimen preparation efforts, and measure Au thin film, which is a very popular material in micro/nano electronic devices. Au film is deposited on Si substrate by evaporation process, of which thickness is 100nm. Using the strip bending test, we obtain elastic modulus, yield and ultimate tensile strength, and residual stress of Au thin film.

  • Recently, the most mobile application software developers are being faced by short developing time (fast time-to-market), various requirements and requirement changes. In order to overcome the environment, developer should support user friendly GUI and assure the quality from the early developing process using GUI test method. This paper proposes a test method and tool for mobile software GUI, which reduces test time and supports comfortable test environment by user oriented UI design. We implemented a tool based on test scenarios based image flow for high testing accuracy and test case reusability. And the results show the characteristics of the method compared to the existing tools.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the material properties of SA106 Gr. C carbon steel and its associated weld manufactured for main steam system of Yonggwang 3,4 nuclear generating stations. A total of 43 tensile and 35 fracture toughness tests were performed and the effects of various parameters such as pipe size, crack plane orientation, test temperature, welding on material properties were discussed. Test results show that the effects of crack plane orientation, test temperature, and welding on fracture toughness were significant while the effects of pipe size, specimen orientation and test temperature on tensile properties were negligible. Especially the dependence of J-R curves on the crack plane orientation appears to be the characteristics of carbon steel.

  • A procedure predicting warpage and post-deformation due to heat resistance test is presented. The procedure is applied to the injection molding processes of automotive plastic components, which are the door trim and the instrument pannel. The warpage of products is obtained from the residual stress after filling, packing and cooling process, and the post deformation due to the heat resistance test is calculated in the structural analysis of the product at the ejection temperature with the initial condition of residual stress, the boundary conditions and heat resistance conditions. The analyses give some useful guide lines in the design of automotive plastic parts which should satisfy heat resistance regulation.

  • Quenchable boron steel is a new type of high strength steel to reduce the weight of automobiles and maintain the safety conditions. Quenchable blanks can be hot-stamped and hardened in a water-cooled tool to achieve high strength. In this paper, new alloy for hot stamping is designed based on requirement of mechanical properties and two types of surface coating are investigated in viewpoints of oxidization and exfoliation. An automotive part of center pillar is manufactured by hot-stamping using Al-Si coated sheet. The performance of developed part is compared by static compression test and side impact crash test.
