  • Streptococcus sp J-C1 producing bacteriocin was isolated from Kimchi. The optimum conditions for bacteriocin production by Streptococcus sp. J-C1 were evaluated. For the maximum yield of bacteriocin production by Streptococcus sp. J-C1, the cell should be harvested at the late stationary phase and the temperature, pH and NaCl concentration should be 25$\circ$C, pH 8 and without the addition of NaCl, respectively. Sucrose should be used as a carbon source and organic nitrogen such as peptone should be used as a nitorgen source for the best yield. The production of bacteriocin is related to the cell growth of Streptococcus sp. J-C1. The bacteriocin from Streptococcus sp. J-C1 was active for gram positive microorganisms such as Lactobacillus sp., Leuconoctoc sp., Lactococcus sp., Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus amd Bacillus subtilis and also active for gram negetive bacteria such as Acetobacter aceti. Antibacterial activity of the bacteriocin was completely disappeared by protease treatment.

  • Let X, Y be vector spaces, and let r be 2 or 4. It is shown that if an odd mapping $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ satisfies the functional equation $${\hspace{50}}rf(\frac{\sum_{j=1}^{d}\;x_j} {r})+\;{\sum\limits_{\iota(j)=0,1 \atop {\sum_{j=1}^{d}}\;{\iota}(j)=l}}\;rf(\frac{\sum_{j=1}^{d}{(-1)^{\iota(j)}x_j}}{r}) \\({\ddag}){\hspace{160}}=(_{d-1}C_l-_{d-1}C_{l-1}+1)\;{\sum\limits_{j=1}^{d}\;f(x_j)}$$ then the odd mapping $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ is additive, and we prove the Cauchy-Rassias stability of the functional equation in Banach modules over a unital $C^*$-algebra. As an application, we show that every almost linear bijection $h:{\mathcal{A}}{\rightarrow}{\mathcal{B}}$ of a unital $C^*$-algebra ${\mathcal{A}}$ onto a unital $C^*$-algebra ${\mathcal{B}}$ is a $C^*$-algebra isomorphism when $h(2^nuy)=h(2^nu)h(y)$ for all unitaries $u{\in}{\mathcal{A}}$, all $y{\in}{\mathcal{A}}$, and $n=0,1,2,{\cdots}$.

  • Let X, Y be vector spaces. It is shown that if an even mapping $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ satisfies f(0) = 0, and $$2(_{2d-2}C_{d-1}-_{2d-2}C_d)f\({\sum_{j=1}^{2d}}x_j\)+{\sum_{{\iota}(j)=0,1,{{\small\sum}_{j=1}^{2d}}{\iota}(j)=d}}\;f\({\sum_{j=1}^{2d}}(-1)^{{\iota}(j)}x_j\)=2(_{2d-1}C_d+_{2d-2}C_{d-1}-_{2d-2}C_d){\sum_{j=1}^{2d}}f(x_j)$$ for all $x_1$, ${\cdots}$, $x_{2d}{\in}X$, then the even mapping $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ is quadratic. Furthermore, we prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of the above functional equation in Banach spaces.

  • Let N($d_1,...,{\;}d_n;c_1,...,{\;}c_n$) be the number of solutions $(x_1,...,{\;}x_n){\in}F^{n}_p$ of the diagonal equation $c_lx_1^{d_1}+c_2x_2^{d_2}+{\cdots}+c_nx_n^{d_n}{\;}={\;}0{\;}n{\geq},{\;}c_j{\;}{\in}{\;}F^{*}_q,{\;}j=1,2,...,{\;}n$ where $d_j{\;}>{\;}1{\;}and{\;}d_j{\;}$\mid${\;}q{\;}-{\;}1$ for all j = 1,2,..., n. In this paper, we find all n-tuples ($d_1,...,{\;}d_n$) such that the reduced form of ($d_1,...,{\;}d_n$) and N($d_1,...,{\;}d_n;c_1,...,{\;}c_n$) are the same as in the theorem obtained by Sun Qi [3]. Improving this, we also get an explicit formula for the number of solutions of the diagonal equation, unver a certain natural restriction on the exponents.

  • We present various observational results toward a small group of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs), L1251C. Observations by Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program "From Molecular Cores to Planet Forming Disks" (c2d; Evans et al. 2003) revealed that there are three YSOs within ~15" in L1251C: IRS1 (Class I), IRS2 (Class II), and IRS3 (Class II). In order to understand the molecular environment around these YSOs, we carried out the KVN single-dish observations in $HCO^+$ J=1-0, $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0. $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 was also mapped in L1251C with the TRAO 14m telescope. Integrated intensity maps of high density tracers such as $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0 show similar emission distributions, whose peaks are off the positions of YSOs. A compact $HCO^+$ J=1-0 outflow and an extended $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 outflow were observed, but their outflow axes are not cosistent ($HCO^+$: NW-SE, $^{12}CO$: EW). However, the highest velocity component of the $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 outflow shows similar morphology to the $HCO^+$ J=1-0 outflow, and ~ 23 % of $^{12}CO$ outflow momentum flux is loaded onto this high velocity component. Furthermore, continuum emission has been observed at 350, 450, 850 ${\mu}m$, and 1.3mm. With the KVN single dish, the 22 GHz $H_2O$ maser emission has been also monitored toward L1251C to find variations of the systemic velocity and intensity with time.

  • Employing of 13C stable-isotopes in NMR metabolomics can give unique splitting patterns and coupling constants information originated from 13C-13C coupling interaction that provide an important structural information regarding the cellular metabolic process. But it has been known that an undesirable signal distortion in 2D heteronuclear correlation study, due to 13C-13C interaction, hampers an analysis of the coupling information. Recently, we proposed J-scaled distortion-free heteronuclear single-quantum coherence (HSQC) sequence which provides a distortion-free 13C-13C coupling information with a selective resolution enhancement of JCC splitting. In this paper, we dicuss theoretical aspect and practical feature of J-scaled HSQC pulse sequence. The conceptual explanation of orgin of the signal distortion by 13C-13C coupling interaction and design of J-scaled HSQC through exemplified results are provided in brief.

  • Let {${\xi}_j;j\;{\geq}\;1$} be a centered strictly stationary random sequence defined by $S_0\;=\;0$, $S_n\;=\;\Sigma^n_{j=1}\;{\xi}_j$ and $\sigma(n)\;=\;33\sqrt {ES^2_n}$ where $\sigma(t),\;t\;>\;0$, is a nondecreasing continuous regularly varying function. Suppose that there exists $n_0\;{\geq}\;1$ such that, for any $n\;{\geq}\;n_0$ and $0\;{\leq}\;{\varepsilon}\;<\;1$, there exist positive constants $c_1$ and $c_2$ such that $c_1e^{-(1+{\varepsilon})x^2/2}\;{\leq}\;P\{\frac{{\mid}S_n{\mid}}{\sigma(n)}\;{\geq}\;x\}\;{\leq}\;c_2e^{-(1-{\varepsilon})x^2/2$, $x\;{\geq}\;1$ Under some additional conditions, we investigate some limsup results for the increments of partial sum processes of the sequence {${\xi}_j;j\;{\geq}\;1$}.

  • We present molecular line observations of a small group of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs), L1251C. Observations by Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program "From Molecular Cores to Planet Forming Disks"(c2d; Evans et al. 2003) revealed that there are three YSOs within ~15" in L1251C: IRS1 (Class I), IRS2 (Class II), and IRS3 (Class II). CO J=1-0 was also mapped in L1251C with the TRAO 14m telescope. Integrated intensity maps of high density tracers such as $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0 show similar emission distributions, whose peaks are off from the positions of YSOs. However, $HCO^+$ J=1-0, which is believed to trace both infall and outflow, presents its emission distribution different from those of other molecular transitions. The line profile of $HCO^+$ J=1-0 is superimposed by two velocity (narrow and broad) components. The $HCO^+$ outflow map reveals multiple structures while the CO outflow map elongates mainly along the EW direction. With the KVN single dish, the 22 GHz $H_2O$ maser emission has been also monitored toward L1251C to find variations of the systemic velocity and intensity with time.
