  • Numerical analysis of dynamic contact and stress developing in the high-speed driven valve of an internal combustion engine is presented. The valve is modeled by finite element techniques, and the dynamic contact between the valve and the valve seat is analyzed by the solution strategies of differential algebraic equations. Also an iterative scheme similar to the augmented Lagrange multiplier method is employed to enforce the contact constraints. It is shown that the contact and separation between the valve and the valve seat can be computed by the finite element techniques without assuming the artificial springs, and the efficiency and accuracy of the solution are demonstrated by the numerical examples.

  • As an automobile tends to be high grade, the needs for more luxurious interior and comfortable HVAC system are emerged. The defrosting ability is another major factor of the performances of HVAC system. The present work is to simulate the flow and the temperature field of cabin interior during the defrost mode. The three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation were solved on the multi blocked grid system by the iterative time marching method and AF scheme, respectively. The present computations were validated by the comparison of the temperature field of a driven cavity and velocity field of 1/5 model scale of an automobile. Generally good agreements were obtained. By the present computation, the complicated features of flow and temperature within the automotive cabin interior could be well understood.

  • In this paper, it is presented a learning controller for repetitive walking control of biped walking robot. We propose the iterative learning control algorithm which can learn periodic nonlinear load change ocuured due to the walking period through the intelligent control, not calculating the complex dynamics of walking robot. The learning control scheme consists of a feedforward learning rule and linear feedback control input for stabilization of learning system. The feasibility of intelligent control to biped robotic motion is shown via dynamic simulation with 25-DOF biped walking robot.

  • We describe a fast numerical method for non-separable elliptic equations in self-adjoin form on irregular adaptive domains. One of the most successful results in numerical PDE is developing rapid elliptic solvers for separable EPDEs, for example, Fourier transformation methods for Poisson problem on a square, however, it is known that there is no rapid elliptic solvers capable of solving a general nonseparable problems. It is the purpose of this paper to present an iterative solver for linear EPDEs in self-adjoint form. The scheme discussed in this paper solves a given non-separable equation using a sequence of solutions of Poisson equations, therefore, the most important key for such a method is having a good Poison solver. High performance is achieved by using a fast high-order adaptive Poisson solver which requires only about 500 floating point operations per gridpoint in order to obtain machine precision for both the computed solution and its partial derivatives. A few numerical examples have been presented.

  • This paper presents the new three-level optimal control scheme for the large scale nonlinear systems, which is based on fast walsh transform. It is well known that optimization for nonlinear systems leads to the resolution of a nonlinear two point boundary value problem which always requires a numerical iterative technique for their solution. However, Three-level costate coordination can avoid two point boundary condition in subsystem. But this method also has the defect that must solve high order differential equation in intermediate level. The proposed method makes use of fast walsh transform, therefore, is simple in computation because of solving algebra equation instead of differential equation.

  • We present in this work a coupled phenomenological chemo-mechanical model that represents the degradation of concrete-like materials. The chemical behaviour is described by the nowadays well known simplified calcium leaching approach. And the mechanical damage behaviour is described by a continuum damage model which involves the gradient of the damage quantity. The coupled nonlinear problem at hand is addressed within the context of the finite element method. For the equation governing the calcium dissolution-diffusion part of the problem, special care is taken to treat the highly nonlinear calcium conductivity and solid calcium functions. The algorithmic design is based on a Newton-type iterative scheme where use is made of a recently proposed relaxed linearization procedure. And for the equation governing the damage part of the problem, an augmented Lagrangian formulation is used to take into account the damage irreversibility constraint. Finally, numerical simulations are compared with experimental results on cement paste.

  • Structural optimization often requires the evaluation of design sensitivities. The Semi Aanalytic method(SAM) for computing sensitivity is popular in shape optimization because this method has several advantages. But when relatively large rigid body motions are identified for individual elements, the SA method shows severe inaccuracy. In this paper, the improvement of design sensitivities corresponding to the rigid body mode is evaluated by exact differentiation of the rigid body modes. Moreover, the error of the SA method caused by numerical difference scheme is alleviated by using a series approximation for the sensitivity derivatives and considering the higher order terms. Finally, this paper shows that the refined SA method including the iterative method improves the results of sensitivity analysis in dynamic problems.

  • In this paper, we present an iterative phase offset estimation algorithm based on a space-time block code and turbo coded system. External single phase estimator receives soft information from the turbo decoder and estimates phase offset with LMS algorithm. The estimated phase offset value is used for space-time decoder. Simulation results show the phase estimation gain in a flat fading channel.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel PAPR reduction scheme, which requires no change of a receiver structure or no additional information transmission. The approach we employed is clipping in the time and frequency domains within EVM, which is a suboptimal method with lower computational complexity compared to the optimal method. The simulation results demonstrated that the proposed method is more effective at lower modulation levels with larger constellation errors.
