An iterative tuning technique is derived for PID controllers which are widely used in industries. The tuning algorithm is based upon a fuzzy indirect reasoning method and an iterative technique. The PID gains for the first tuning action are determined by a method which is modified from the Ziegler-Nichols step response method. The first PID gains are determined to obtain a control performance so close to a design performance that the following tuning process can be made effectively. The design paramaters are given as time-domain variables which human is familiar with. The results of simulation studies show that the proposed tuning method can produce an effective tuning for arbitrary design performances.

In this study, we propose an iterative clustering algorithm that automatically clusters a set of voice signal data without a label into an optimal number of clusters and generates hmm model for each cluster. In the clustering process, the likelihood calculations of the clusters are performed using iterative hmm learning and testing while varying the number of clusters for given data, and the maximum likelihood estimation method is used to determine the optimal number of clusters. We tested the effectiveness of this clustering algorithm on a small-vocabulary digit clustering task by mapping the unsupervised decoded output of the optimal cluster to the ground-truth transcription, we found out that they were highly correlated.

An extension of interaction matrix formulation to the problem of system and disturbance identification for a plant that is corrupted by both process and output disturbances is presented. The teaming control develops controllers that learn to improve their performance at executing a given task, based on experience performing this task. The simplest forms of loaming control are based on the same concept as integral control, but operating in the domain of the repetitions of the task. This paper studies the use of such controllers in a decentralized system, such as a robot moving on the vertical plane with the controller for each link acting independently. The basic result of the paper is to show that stability and iterative precision of the learning controllers for all subsystems when the coupling between subsystems is turned off, assures stability of the decentralized teaming in the coupled system, provided that the sample time in the digital teaming controller is sufficiently short. The methods of teaming system are shown up for the iterative precision of each link.
Comprehensive study on the control system design for a RTP process has been conducted. The purpose of the control system is to maintain maximum temperature uniformity across the silicon wafer achieving precise tracking for various reference trajectories. The study has been carried out in two stages: thermal balance modeling on the basis of a semi-empirical radiation model, and optimal iterative learning controller design on the basis of a linear state space model. First, we found through steady state radiation modeling that the fourth power of wafer temperatures, lamp powers, and the fourth power of chamber wall temperature are related by an emissivity-independent linear equation. Next, for control of the MIMO system, a state space modeland LQG-based two-stage batch control technique was derived and employed to reduce the heavy computational demand in the original two-stage batch control technique. By accommodating the first result, a linear state space model for the controller design was identified between the lamp powers and the fourth power of wafer temperatures as inputs and outputs, respectively. The control system was applied to an experimental RTP equipment. As a consequence, great uniformity improvement could be attained over the entire time horizon compared to the original multi-loop PID control. In addition, controller implementation was standardized and facilitated by completely eliminating the tedious and lengthy control tuning trial.
In the present work we construct a composite implicit random iterative process with errors for a finite family of asymptotically nonexpansive random operators and discuss a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of this process in an arbitrary real Banach space. It is also proved that this process converges to the common random fixed point of the finite family of asymptotically nonexpansive random operators in the setting of uniformly convex Banach spaces. The present work also generalizes a recently established result in Banach spaces.
Generally Cam-Follower systems consist of two elements: Cam is for rotating motion and follower for reciprocating motion. Depending on the shape of cam and type of follower, the motion of cam-follower system is determined. Thus design process and analysis process must be well defined. The design process means to find the coordinates of cam shape which can be defined the given motion of follower and the analysis process means to determine the motion curve of follower corresponding to the given cam based on the dimensions of a cam-follower system. This paper consists of two parts: One is development of a numerical method for design and analysis of cam-follower systems, the other is for development of a CAD program and its application. As the first part of the paper, an iterative contact method is proposed. This method can calculate the contact points between cam and roller and determine their contact angles iteratively. The second part of the paper presents the structure of a CAD program and its availability to the industrial applications.
This paper articulates the STI strategy development principles and methodologies that have been elaborated through iterative processes of STI strategy development cases for the past ten years. The consultation cases include poverty traps in Nepal and Laos, African health challenges in Nigeria and Tanzania, and ASEAN global challenges in Indonesian Water, Vietnamese Green Energy, and Filipino Food, in partnership with some multilateral agencies. The iterative elaboration process has continued with consultation activities on Thailand and on Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar in planning partnership with Thailand. The principles were originally conceptualized from the benchmarking process of the Korean STI development experience. They were further incorporated as methodologies with which relevant planning bodies are guided to address individual and regional challenges through science, technology and innovation strategies. The methodologies are strong in providing plausible holistic perspective scenarios by which various stakeholders can be engaged in the planning and implementation process. But it is heuristic in nature and can be learned only through on-the-job training process. This is the structural limitation for scaling up.
Dendritic hyperbranched poly(methyl methacrylate)s (PMMA)s, whose branched architectures resemble the 'dendron' part(s) of dendrimer, were synthesized by an iterative methodology consisting of two reactions in each iteration process: (a) a coupling reaction of u-functionalized, living, anionic PMMA having two tert-butyldimethylsilyloxymethylphenyl(SMP) groups with benzyl bromide(BnBr)-chain-end-functionalized PMMA, and (b) a transformation reaction of the introduced SMP groups into BnBr functionalities. These two reactions, (a) and (b), were repeated three times to afford a series of dendron-like, hyperbranched (PMMA)s up to third generation. Three dendron-like, hyperbranched (PMMA)s different in branched architecture were also synthesized by the same iterative methodology using a low molecular weight, functionalized 1,1-diphenylalkyl anion prepared from sec-BuLi and 1,1-bis(3-tert-butyldime-thylsilyloxymethylphenyl)ethylene in the reaction step (b) in each iterative process. Furthermore, structurally similar, dendron-like, hyperbranched block copolymers could be successfully synthesized by the iterative methodology using $\alpha$-functionalized, living, anionic poly(2-(perfluorobutyl) ethyl methacrylate) (PRfMA) in addition to $\alpha$-functionalized, living PMMA. Accordingly, the resulting block copolymers were comprised of both PMMA and PRfMA segments with different sequential orders. After the block copolymers were cast into films and annealed, their surface structures were characterized by angle-dependent XPS and contact angle measurements. All three samples showed significant segregation and enrichment of PRfMA segments at the surfaces.
In this paper, we present an iterative reliability-based modified majority-logic decoding algorithm for two classes of structured low-density parity-check codes. Different from the conventional modified one-step majority-logic decoding algorithms, we design a turbo-like iterative strategy to recover the performance degradation caused by the simply flipping operation. The main computational loads of the presented algorithm include only binary logic and integer operations, resulting in low decoding complexity. Furthermore, by introducing the iterative set, a very small proportion (less than 6%) of variable nodes are involved in the reliability updating process, which can further reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that, combined with the factor correction technique and a well-designed non-uniform quantization scheme, the presented algorithm can achieve a significant performance improvement and a fast decoding speed, even with very small quantization levels (3-4 bits resolution). The presented algorithm provides a candidate for trade-offs between performance and complexity.
