Energy Band Structure and Photocatalytic Property of Fe-doped Zn2TiO4 Material

  • $Zn_2Ti_{1-x}Fe_xO_4\;(0\;{\leq}\;x\;{\leq}\;0.7)$ photocatalysts were synthesized by polymerized complex (PC) method and investigated for its physico-chemical as well as optical properties. $Zn_2Ti_{1-x}Fe_xO_4$ can absorb not only UV light but also visible light region due to doping of Fe in the Ti site of $Zn_2TiO_4$ lattice because of the band transition from Fe 3d to the Fe 3d + Ti3d hybrid orbital. The photocatalytic activity of Fe doped $Zn_2TiO_4$ samples for hydrogen production under UV light irradiation decreased with an increase in Fe concentration in $Zn_2TiO_4$. Consequently, there exists an optimized concentration of iron for improved photocatalytic activity under visible light (${\lambda}{\leq}$420 nm)

생태학적 기능을 이용한 광미 활용 전기 생산: 철산화박테리아를 이용한 황철석 산화 속도 증진을 통한 전류 밀도 향상 가능성 평가 (From Mine Tailings to Electricity using Ecological Function: Evaluation of Increase in Current Density by Increasing the Oxidation Rate of Pyrite using Iron Oxidizing Bacteria)

  • 본 연구는 광산 지역 토착미생물인 철산화박테리아 (Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans)를 이용하여 산성광산배수의 원인물질인 황철석을 함유한 광미로부터 전기를 생산하고자 하는 목적으로 수행되고 있다. 예비실험으로서 철산화박테리아의 존재 여부가 배양액 내 $Fe^{2+}$과 총 철의 농도 변화에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 철산화박테리아가 존재하지 않는 조건에서는 초기 9,000 mg/L의 $Fe^{2+}$이 약 6,000 mg/L까지 감소하였으나, 철산화박테리아가 존재하는 조건에서는 약 400 mg/L까지 감소하였다. 이는 철산화박테리아가 $Fe^{2+}$의 산화를 촉진하기 때문으로, 황철석을 활용한 연료전지에 철산화박테리아를 적용하면 $Fe^{2+}$의 산화 과정에서 생기는 전자의 이동이 증가하여 전지의 전류 밀도를 높일 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다. 본 연구는 광산 지역 토착미생물의 생태학적 기능을 활용해 광미로부터 전기를 생산해내는 기술을 개발하는 연구의 바탕을 마련한다는 점에서 의미 있다.

Metallurgical Study of Iron Artifacts from Guryong-ri Site in Ungcheon, Boryeong

  • In the 6th and 7th centuries, 5 iron artifacts excavated form the Baekje Stone Tomb in Guryong-ri site, Ungcheon, Boryeong, were studied. The sample were metal microscopic observation, SEM-EDS analysis and Raman micro-spectroscopy analysis were conducted to understand the metallurgical characteristics. The microstructure observation showed the presence of ferrite and pearlite throughout, and differences in carbon content existed depending on the direction. Non-metallic inclusions were in the form of long lines, and most of them were wüstite, fayalite. It is indicated that the artifacts were forge welded using hypoeutectoid steel, with signs of carburizing and decarburizing processes. Some crystals with high P2O5, TiO2, CaO content were identified as sarcopside, ulvöspinel, and perovskite, respectively, through Raman spectroscopy. A comparison of the results with previous studies on the sites of Bujang-ri site in Seosan and Bongseon-ri site in Seocheon, which are adjacent sites in the coastal area, revealed that, while heat treatment technology was available, the artifacts were not heat-treated considering the purpose for use for these artifacts. The chemical composition of the non-metallic inclusions P2O5, TiO2, CaO were plotted in proportions to SiO2 and compared with adjacent sites. Considering that the P2O5/SiO2 ratio was widely distributed, the refining technology was not uniform. In addition, the TiO2/SiO2 ratio was found to be higher than that of other sites, meaning that a titanium-containing ore was used to manufacture the artifacts, unlike in surrounding sites, but it is not detected in all artifacts, so it may have been affected by various factors such as furnace walls in addition to raw materials. Although slag formers were used, considering the CaO/SiO2 ratio and the (Al2O3/SiO2)/(CaO/SiO2) ratio, which appear to be similar to the surrounding sites, but it is possible that CaO containing raw ore was used because it is also affected by the components of raw ore. As a result of the study, it is highly likely that ore different from that of the surrounding sites was used for production, but a more comprehensive comparative study with the surrounding sites is needed in the future.

  • 본 연구에서는 염화제이철의 재생공정으로 기존 용매추출법에서 사용하고 있는 용매인 TBP 및 Alamine336 대신에 새로운 용매를 통해 용액 내에 존재하는 Ni과 Fe를 분리 및 회수하는 공정을 개발하였다. Lab 실험을 통하여 실험조건을 최적화하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 상업화를 위한 $10L\;h^{-1}$급 파일럿 설비를 구축하였다. 또한 파일럿 실험을 통하여 양산을 위한 공정 데이터를 확보하였으며, 제조된 염화제이철의 부식실험을 통하여 사용할 수 있는 제품 품질에 문제없음을 확인하였다.

  • 전기도금법에 의한 니켈-철 합금 도금층은 전류인가방식, 전류밀도, 첨가제, 도금 욕에서 철과 니켈에 농도비 등과 같은 공정 변수에 따라 그 조성이 민감하게 변화하고 특히 전류인가방식에 따라 도금 층의 조성과 기계적인 특성이 달라지는 경향을 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 전류의 인가방식과 전류밀도 변화에 따른 경도, 내마모성, 인성,표면 거칠기 및 잔류응력 등의 기계적인 물성의 변화를 연구하였다. 전류인가방식을 직류에서 펄스전류로 변환시킴에 따라 인장강도가 15% 증가하였으며, 잔류음력이 10% 감소하였고, 내마모성이 30% 향상되었다.

태평양 심해저 망간단괴 개발사업의 경제적 파급효과 (The Economic Impacts of Pacific Ocean Deep-sea Manganese Nodule Development Project)

  • The securing of raw material is an important requirement for economic development. Many countries, including Korea, actively seek out a stable supply of minerals such as manganese. Manganese nodules are rock concretions on the sea bottom formed of concentric layers of iron and manganese hydroxides around a core and include several strategic minerals necessary for economic development. In particular, the manganese nodule development project (MNDP) plays an important role in the Korean national economy. This study attempts to apply input-output (I-O) analysis in investigating the economic impacts of the MNDP in the Korean national economy. A static I-O framework was employed, focusing on four topics in its application; the production-inducing impacts, the value-added-inducing impacts, the employment-inducing impacts and R&D-inducing impacts of MNDP investments on other sectors. To this end, several versions of the demand-driven models are utilized. In addition, inter-industry linkage analysis is performed to obtain information on the forward and backward linkage effects of industries, including MNDP, to quantify the strength of causation among these industries.

모형실험과 시뮬레이션을 통한 활어 이송용 예인 가두리의 수직 및 수평 전개력 추정 (Estimation of vertical and horizontal spreading force of the towing cage for transporting the live fish by model test and simulation)

  • Nowadays, consumption of fisheries products is increasing. There are several factors, one of which is a quantitative development through aquaculture. Another factor is an increase qualitative consumption of fish which require that fish be supplied alive. This requires a lot of technical effort to transport the live fish that have low survival rate (c.f. tuna and mackerel) in coastal waters and in the open sea. To develop a towing cage for transporting the live fish, model test in a circulate water channel and simulation by computer tool were carried out. In order to spread vertically, floats were attached at the upper part of the cage, and iron chains attached at the lower part of the cage. For horizontal spreading, kites were attached on the cage. The tension and spreading performance of the cage were measured. The result shows that the tension and reduction ratio of inside volume of the cage were tended to increase with increased towing speeds. The suitable operation condition in towing cage was 1.0 m/s towing speeds with vertical spreading force 8.7 kN, horizontal spreading force 5.6 kN; in this case the reduction ratio of inside volume of the cage was estimated as 25%.

제강분진의 건식 처리기술 현황 (Status of Pyrometallurgical Treatment Technology of EAF Dust)

  • 전기로 제강분진은 아연, 연, 철의 2차자원으로서 매우 중요하다. 또한 제강분진의 리싸이클링은 분진 중에 함유되어 있는 증금속 성분 등의 유해원소에 의한 환경문제의 처리에 유용한 방법이다. 본 조사는 기존의 전기로 제강분진을 처리하는 방법의 개선이나 새로운 처리방법의 개발을 위해 건식처리 방법에 대하여 알아보았다. 상업중인 처리방법은 노의 형상 등에 따라 로터리 킬른형, 회전노상형, 샤프트형, 용융환원로형 등으로 구분할 수 있었다. 이러한 처리에서의 생성물은 ZnO와 환원철 또는 슬래그이다. 제강분진으로부터 ZnO를 만드는 기구는 탄소 열환원과 공기에 의한 아연증기의 산화에 의한 것이다.

Nelumbo nucifera extracts mediated synthesis of silver nanoparticles for the potential applications in medicine and environmental remediation

  • Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were successfully synthesized through a simple green route using the Nelumbo nucifera leaf, stem and flower extracts. These nanoparticles showed characteristic UV-Vis absorption peaks between 410-450 nm which arises due to the plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the presence of amides and which acted as the stabilizing agent. X-ray diffraction spectrum of the nanoparticles confirmed the Face centered cubic (FCC) structure of the formed AgNPs. Dynamic light scattering technique was used to measure hydrodynamic diameter (68.6 nm to 88.1 nm) and zeta potential (-55.4 mV, -57.9 mV and 98.9 mV) of prepared AgNPs. The scanning electron micrographs of dislodged nanoparticles in aqueous solution showed the production of reasonably monodispersed silver nanoparticles (1-100 nm). The antimicrobial activity of prepared AgNPs was evaluated against fungi, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using disc diffusion method. Anti-corrosion studies were carried out using coupon method (mild steel and iron) and dye degradation studies were carried out by assessing photo-catalytic activity of Nelumbo nucifera extracts mediated AgNPs.

수처리 티탄염 응집 슬러지에서 생산한 산화티탄의 제조와 특성 조사 (Preparation and Characterisation of Titanium Dioxide Produced from Ti-salt Flocculated Sludge in Water Treatment)

  • 지난 수 년간 본 연구팀은 새로운 티탄염 응집제를 이용하여 폐수를 응집한 후 생산된 슬러지에서 산화티탄을 생산하는 연구를 진행하였다. 티탄염의 응집 효율은 일반적으로 많이 사용되는 철염과 알루미늄염 응집제와 비슷하였으며 슬러지를 소성하여 제조한 산화티탄은 상용 산화티탄보다 더 넓은 표면적과 높은 광촉매 활성을 나타내었다. 산화티탄의 광촉매 활성 향상과 pH를 높이기 위해 응집보조제로서 철, 알루미늄, 칼슘을 사용하여 광촉매 활성이 높은 Fe, Al, Ca 도핑 산화티탄을 제조하였다. 이 기술의 실제 적용 가능성을 확인하기 위하여 염색폐수 파일럿 장치에 적용한 결과, 우수한 유기물 제거 능력과 빠른 응집체 형성이 확인되었다. 염색폐수 슬러지에서 제조한 산화티탄은 높은 유기물 제거 광촉매 활성과 물 광분해에 의해 수소를 생성하였다. 티탄염 응집제와 슬러지에서 제조한 산화티탄의 독성을 D. magna로 조사한 결과, 낮은 독성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 총설은 미래의 슬러지 재활용 기술로 높은 적용 가능성을 가지는 티탄염으로 제조한 산화티탄의 특성을 체계적으로 정리하였다.
