Electrical properties of ZrF4-based heavy metla fluoride glasses were measured by the ac complex impedance method. The effects of alkali and chloride ions addition into fluoro zirconate glasses on the electrical conductivity were examined. The electrical conductivities of fluoride glasses show Arrhenian behavior in the temperature range of the experiment and were decreased by the addition of sodium fluoride up to 15mol%. Mixed alkali substitution resulted in conductivity minimum at intermediate composition which is commonly observed as mixed alkali effect' in alkali oxide glasses. Chloride ion substituted for fluoride ion was found to lower the conductivity.
A fluorinated polybenzimidazole (FPBI) was synthesized from 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) of tetraamine, 2,2-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane of aromatic biscarboxylic acid, and 4,4-sulfonyldibenzoic acid of aromatic biscarboxylic acid in polyphosphoric acid (PPA). A FPBI was easily cast and made into clear films. The structure of condensation polymers and corresponding membranes were analyzed using GPC (gel permeation chromatography), $^1H$-NMR ($^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance) and FT-IR (fourier transform infrared). TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) analysis showed that the prepared membranes were thermally stable, so that elevated temperature fuel cell operation would be possible. The proton conductivity of the FPBI membranes increased with increasing temperatures in the polymer. A FPBI membrane has a maximum ion conductivity of 45 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity.

We have investigated ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability of the electrolytes containing organic solvent. Ion conductivities were measured between 10 and 80$^{\circ}C$, and electrochemical stabilities were determined by cyclic voltammetry on glassy carbon, platinum and aluminum electrodes. Ionic conductivity of electrolyte(EC:DEC=1:1) with IM LiPF$\_$6/ shows better than that of the other electrolytes having Li salts. The IM LiBF$_4$-PC electrolyte exhibits good electrochemical stability. IM LiPF$\_$6/ (EC:DEC=1:1) and IM LiPF$\_$6/ (EC:DMC=1:1) electrolytes are used for the high capacity of battery system.

Many researchers have studied for the barrier liner in the landfill that is mixed with clay mineral, native soils and solidified agent. However, they have a littel but problems for safety construction and maintenance as a bottom liner systems in the landfill. In this paper the authors studied the effects on hydraulic conductivity by electric-chemical ion-exchange agent that is a soil stabilization agent(Sulphonated Oil), The application of the soil stabilization agent to meet the hydraulic conductivity of clay liner in landfill is possible if the additive quantity and a proper reaction time is determined relevantly in the laboratory test.
The conductivity of the electrolyte used plays a critical role in the optimization of the performance of electrochemical double layer capacitors. However, when the difference in the conductivities of different electrolytes is not significant (only 10-20%), the conductivity has little effect on the capacitance. On the other, unlike the conductivity and viscosity of the electrolyte, the cation size directly influences the capacitance. Cyclic ions have a smaller effective radius than that of the corresponding acyclic ions because the acyclic alkyl groups have a greater number of conformational degrees of freedom, such as the rotational, bending, and stretching modes. Consequently, because of the smaller effective size of the cyclic ions, cells containing electrolytes with such ions exhibit higher capacitances than do those with their acyclic counterparts.

The preparation and electrical properties of LIPON electrolyte were investigated in order to fabricate all solid state thin film battery. The LIPON thin film was deposited by r.f. sputtering of Li$_3$PO$_4$ target in O$_2$-N$_2$ mixtures. The LIPON deposited at N$_2$+10% O$_2$ ratio had a conductivity at 25 $^{\circ}C$ of 1.8${\times}$10$\^$-6/S/cm. The ion conductivity of the LIPON films decreased as the O$_2$ content of the process gas increased.
AEM which were used for solid alkaline fuel cell(SAFC) were prepared by photo polymerization in method pore-filling with various quaternary ammonium cationic monomers and crosslinkers without an amination process. Their specific thermal and chemical properties were characterized through various analyses and the physico-chemical properties of the prepared electrolyte membranes such as swelling behavior, ion exchange capacity and ionic conductivity were also investigated in correlation with the electrolyte composition. The polymer electrolyte membranes prepared in this study have a very wide hydroxyl ion conductivity range of 0.01 - 0.45S/cm depending on the composition ratio of the electrolyte monomer and crosslinking agent used for polymerization. However, the hydroxyl ion conductivity of the membranes was relatively higher at the whole cases than those of commercial products such as A201 membrane of Tokuyama. These pore-filling membranes have also excellent properties such as smaller dimensional affects when swollen in solvents, higher mechanical strength, lowest electrolyte crossover through the membranes, and easier preparation process compared of traditional cast membranes. The prepared membranes were then applied to solid alkaline fuel cell and it was found comparable fuel cell performance to A201 membrane of Tokuyama.

We demonstrated the thin film deposition of sodium phosphorous oxynitride (NaPON) via RF magnetron sputtering of $Na_3PO_4$, as a solid-state Na-ion conductor similar to lithium phosphorous oxynitride (LiPON), which is a commonly used solid electrolyte. The deposited NaPON thin film was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, to investigate the feasibility of the solid-state electrolyte in several different cell configurations. The key properties of a solidstate electrolyte, i.e., ionic conductivity and activation energy, were estimated from the complex non-linear least square fitting of the measured impedance spectra at various temperatures in the range of $27-90^{\circ}C$. The ionic conductivity of the NaPON film was measured to be $8.73{\times}10^{-6}S\;cm^{-1}$ at $27^{\circ}C$, which was comparable to that of the LiPON film. The activation energy was estimated to be 0.164 eV, which was lower than that of the LiPON film (0.672 eV). The obtained values encourage the use of a NaPON thin film in the future as a reasonable solid-state electrolyte.

Acidic fog is catastrophic to aviation and potentially affect materials, vegetation, crops and public health. This paper was carried out to investigate the chemical features of fog sample at Mt. Sobaek (mean sea level : 1, 340m) from June to August 1995. Each sample was analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity and major ions (anion : $Cl^N)_3^-, SO_4^{2-}, cation : Na^+, NH_4^+, K^+, Mg^{2+}, Ca^{2+}$) by ion chromatography. The quality analysis of fog sample data was performed based on ion balance and electrical conductivity method. The wind directions are subdivided into the northerly and southerly wind according to the wind direction data at the Sobaek-san meteorological observation station. Statistical analyses were performed on the complete set of results in order to obtain a description of fog sample. All the statistical treatment was carried out using the SPSS/PC + software package. The major ion concentration of fog samples was higher for the northwesterly wind cases than sourtheasterly wind cases. The pH of fog sample varied between 2.95 and 6.08. The average pH and electrical conductivity of total sample (n=210) were 4.39 and 113.0 $\mu$S/cm, respectively. It may be noted that in nearly all the cases, the dominant major ions in the fog sample at Mt. Sobaek were $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, H^+ and NH_4^+$.

Synthetic polymers such as polyimide, polycarbonate, and poly(methyl methacrylate) are long chain molecules which consist of carbon, hydrogen, and heteroatom linked together chemically. Recently, polymer surface can be modified by using a high energy ion beam process. High energy ions are introduced into polymer structure with high velocity and provide a high degree of chemical bonding between molecular chains. In high energy beam process the modified polymers have the highly crosslinked three-dimensionally connected rigid network structure and they showed significant improvements in electrical conductivity, in hardness and in resistance to wear and chemicals. Polyimide films (Kapton, types HN) with thickness of 50~100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were used for investigations. They were treated with two different surface modification techniques: Plasma Source Ion Implantation (PSII) and conventional Ion Implantation. Polyimide films were implanted with different ion species such as Ar+, N+, C+, He+, and O+ with dose from 1 x 1015 to 1 x 1017 ions/cm2. Ion energy was varied from 10keV to 60keV for PSII experiment. Polyimide samples were also implanted with 1 MeV hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen ions with a dose of 1x1015ions/cm2. This work provides the possibility for inducing conductivity in polyimide films by ion beam bombardment in the keloelectronvolt to megaelectronvolt energy range. The electrical properties of implanted polyimide were determined by four-point probe measurement. Depending on ion energy, doses, and ion type, the surface resistivity of the film is reduced by several orders of magnitude. Ion bombarded layers were characterized by Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), XPS, and SEM.
