  • Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSN) are usually constrained in energy supply, which makes energy efficiency a key factor to extend the network lifetime. The management of the network topology has been widely used as a mechanism to enhance the lifetime of wireless sensor networks (WSN), and this work presents an alternative to this. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a well-known technology in data center applications that separates the data and control planes during the network management. This paper proposes a solution based on SDN that optimizes the energy use in MWSN. The network intelligence is placed in a controller that can be accessed through different controller gateways within a MWSN. This network intelligence runs a Topology Control (TC) mechanism to build a backbone of coordinator nodes. Therefore, nodes only need to perform forwarding tasks, they reduce message retransmissions and CPU usage. This results in an improvement of the network lifetime. The performance of the proposed solution is evaluated and compared with a distributed approach using the OMNeT++ simulation framework. Results show that the network lifetime increases when 2 or more controller gateways are used.

  • The Internet of Things (or IoT for short) which refers to uniquely identifiable objects and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure is to be reality today. The amount of data on IoT is expected to increase abruptly and there are several key issues like usefulness interoperability between multiple distributes systems, services and databases. In this paper a methodology is proposed to realize a recently developed cloud service model, Contents as a Service (CaaS), which is contents delivery model referred to as 'on-demand contents'. In the proposed method, the global object identification, ePosition, comprising the structured form of two sorts of text strings with a separation symbol like # is applied to identify a specific content and registered with the content at the same server. It is easy-to-realize and effective to solve the interoperability problem systematically and logically. Some APIs for the proposed CaaS service are to be converged to provide some upgraded cloud service model such as 'CaaS supported SaaS' and 'CaaS supported PaaS'.

  • As understanding sudden climate change and agricultural productivity becomes increasingly important due to global warming, soil moisture prediction is emerging as a key topic in agriculture. Soil moisture has a significant impact on crop growth and health, and proper management and accurate prediction are key factors in improving agricultural productivity and resource management. For this reason, soil moisture prediction is receiving great attention in agricultural and environmental fields. In this paper, we collected and analyzed open field environmental data using a pilot field through random forest, a machine learning algorithm, obtained the correlation between data characteristics and soil moisture, and compared the actual and predicted values of soil moisture. As a result of the comparison, the prediction rate was about 92%. It was confirmed that the accuracy was . If soil moisture prediction is carried out by adding crop growth data variables through future research, key information such as crop growth speed and appropriate irrigation timing according to soil moisture can be accurately controlled to increase crop quality and improve productivity and water management efficiency. It is expected that this will have a positive impact on resource efficiency.

  • Because of the increment in network scale and test expenditure, simulators gradually become main tools for research on key problems of wireless networking, such as radio resource management (RRM) techniques. However, existing simulators are generally event-driven, causing unacceptably large simulation time owing to the tremendous number of events handled during a simulation. In this article, a mass-processing framework for RRM simulations is proposed for the scenarios with a massive amount of terminals of Internet of Things accessing 5G communication systems, which divides the time axis into RRM periods and each period into a number of mini-slots. Transmissions within the coverage of each access point are arranged into mini-slots based on the simulated RRM schemes, and mini-slots are almost fully occupied in dense scenarios. Because the sizes of matrices during this process are only decided by the fixed number of mini-slots in a period, the time expended for performance calculation is not affected by the number of terminals or packets. Therefore, by avoiding the event-driven process, the proposal can simulate dense scenarios in a quite limited time. By comparing with a classical event-driven simulator, NS2, we show the significant merits of our proposal on low time and memory costs.

  • In parallel with evolving information communication technology, M2M(Machine-to-Machine) industry has implemented multi-functional and high-performance systems, and made great strides with IoT(Internet of Things) and IoE(Internet of Everything). Authentication, confidentiality, anonymity, non-repudiation, data reliability, connectionless and traceability are prerequisites for communication security. Yet, the wireless transmission section in M2M communication is exposed to intruders' attacks. Any security issues attributable to M2M wireless communication protocols may lead to serious concerns including system faults, information leakage and privacy challenges. Therefore, mutual authentication and security are key components of protocol design. Recently, secure communication protocols have been regarded as highly important and explored as such. The present paper draws on hash function, random numbers, secret keys and session keys to design a secure communication protocol. Also, this paper tests the proposed protocol with a formal verification tool, Casper/FDR, to demonstrate its security against a range of intruders' attacks. In brief, the proposed protocol meets the security requirements, addressing the challenges without any problems.

  • In this paper, we conducted a study focusing on the innovation direction of the documentary model on the Internet of Things industry, which is the most actively industrialized among the core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Policy, economic, social, and technical issues were derived using PEST analysis for global trend analysis. It also presented future prospects for the Internet of Things industry of ICT-related global research institutes such as Gartner and International Data Corporation. Global research institutes predicted that competition in network technologies will be an issue for industrial Internet (IIoST) and IoT (Internet of Things) based on infrastructure and platforms. As a result of the PEST analysis, developed countries are pushing policies to respond to the fourth industrial revolution through cooperation of private (business/ research institutes) led by the government. It was also in the process of expanding related R&D budgets and establishing related policies in South Korea. On the economic side, the growth tax of the related industries (based on the aggregate value of the market) and the performance of the entity were reviewed. The growth of industries related to the fourth industrial revolution in advanced countries overseas was found to be faster than other industries, while in Korea, the growth of the "technical hardware and equipment" and "communication service" sectors was relatively low among industries related to the fourth industrial revolution. On the social side, it is expected to cause enormous ripple effects across society, largely due to changes in technology and industrial structure, changes in employment structure, changes in job volume, etc. On the technical side, changes were taking place in each industry, representing the health and medical sectors and manufacturing sectors, which were rapidly changing as they merged with the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In this paper, various management methodologies for innovation of existing business model were reviewed to cope with rapidly changing industrial environment due to the fourth industrial revolution. In addition, four criteria were established to select a management model to cope with the new business environment: 'Applicability', 'Agility', 'Diversity' and 'Connectivity'. The expert survey results in an AHP analysis showing that Business Model Canvas is best suited for business model innovation methodology. The results showed very high importance, 42.5 percent in terms of "Applicability", 48.1 percent in terms of "Agility", 47.6 percent in terms of "diversity" and 42.9 percent in terms of "connectivity." Thus, it was selected as a model that could be diversely applied according to the industrial ecology and paradigm shift. Business Model Canvas is a relatively recent management strategy that identifies the value of a business model through a nine-block approach as a methodology for business model innovation. It identifies the value of a business model through nine block approaches and covers the four key areas of business: customer, order, infrastructure, and business feasibility analysis. In the paper, the expansion and application direction of the nine blocks were presented from the perspective of the IoT company (ICT). In conclusion, the discussion of which Business Model Canvas models will be applied in the ICT convergence industry is described. Based on the nine blocks, if appropriate applications are carried out to suit the characteristics of the target company, various applications are possible, such as integration and removal of five blocks, seven blocks and so on, and segmentation of blocks that fit the characteristics. Future research needs to develop customized business innovation methodologies for Internet of Things companies, or those that are performing Internet-based services. In addition, in this study, the Business Model Canvas model was derived from expert opinion as a useful tool for innovation. For the expansion and demonstration of the research, a study on the usability of presenting detailed implementation strategies, such as various model application cases and application models for actual companies, is needed.

  • Recently, the advancement of information and communication technology(ICT) is expanding the connectivity through Internet of Things(IoT), and the media of connection is also expanding from wire/cable transmission to broadband wireless communication, which has significantly improved mobility. This hyperconnectivity has become a key element of the fourth industrial revolution, whereas the supervisory control network of purification plants in korea is operated as a communication network separated from the outside, thereby lagging in terms of connectivity. This is considered the best way to ensure security, and thus there is hardly any consideration of establishing alternatives to operate an efficient and stable communication network. Moreover, security for management of a commercialized communication network and network management solution may be accompanied by immense costs, making it more difficult to make new attempts. Therefore, to improve the conditions for the current supervisory control network of purification plants, this study developed a industrial security L2 switch that supports modbus TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) communication and encryption function of the transmission section. As a result, the communication security performance improved significantly, and the cost for implementing the network management system using Historical Trend and information of HMI(Human Machine Interface) could be reduced by approximately KRW 200 million. The results of this study may be applied to systems for gas, electricity and social safety nets that are infrastructure communication networks that are similar to purification plants.
