New PWM Technique for Two-Phase Brushless DC Motor Drives

  • A new PWM technique for a two-phase BLDC motor fed by a two-phase eight-switch inverter is proposed in this paper. It is well known that a two-phase eight-switch inverter can significantly improve power output compared with a two-phase six-switch inverter in a two-phase motor drive. To drive the two-phase BLDC motor simply and effectively, two normal PWM strategies are investigated to manage speed regulation. However, under the conditions of low speed and light load, especially during the braking process, the current in a short time of one period is near zero, which is a discontinuous waveform every half period. To solve it, a novel PWM technique is investigated to improve the operational performance of normal technique. Using the new PWM scheme, the current continues every half period and the braking performance is improved. The effectiveness of the proposed PWM method is verified through the experiments.

  • A PWM inverter with an induction motor often has a problem with a high frequency leakage current that flows through stray capacitor between stator windings and a motor frame to ground. This paper presents an equivalent circuit for high frequency leakage currents in PWM inverter feeding an induction motor, which forms an LCR series resonant circuit. A conventional common mode ckoke or reactor in series between the ac terminals of a PWM inverter and those of an ac motor is not effective to reduce the rms and average values of the leakage current, but effective to reduce the peak value. Furthermore, this paper proposes a leakage current damper which is different in damping principle from the conventional common mode choke. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that the leakage current damper is able to reduce the rms value of the leakage current to 25%, where the core used in the leakage current damper is smaller than that of the conventional common-mode choke

  • This paper proposes a new filter topology that suppresses the high voltage gradient(dv/dt) in ac motor terminals. The high voltage gradient(dv/dt) causes over voltages on the motor windings, the degradation or motor insulation, and the bearing failure. Moreover surge voltage with high voltage gradient(dv/dt) in the PWM inverter red drive system where long line cables are required causes more serious problem to the motor. Thus, the most advisable method is attaching output filter to the inverter output terminals. The conventional output filters have several problems such as bulky size, difficulty or parameter tuning. The proposed filter can be relatively smaller than the conventional filters. By the proposed filter, the shaping or PWM waveform can considerably suppress high dv/dt in motor feeding cable from the inverter. The effectiveness or the proposed filter is compared with that or the conventional one and is verified by the computer simulation.

  • In this paper, switching surge voltage distribution in stator windings of induction motor driven by IGBT PWM inverter is studied. To analyze the irregular voltage of stator winding, equivalent circuit model of inverter-cable-motor was proposed and high frequency parameter is computed by using finite element method (FEM). Electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) analysis of the whole system for induction motor and PWM inverter is proposed. In order to experiment, an induction motor, 380 [V], 50 [HP], with taps from one phase and a switching surge generator was built to consider the voltage distribution.

  • In this paper voltage distribution in stator windings of induction motor driven by IGBT PWM inverter is studied.   • This paper presents a feasible development on a highly accurate quick response adjustable speed drive implementation fur general purpose induction motor which operates on the basis of sensorless slip frequency type vector controlled sine-wave PWM inverter with an automatic tuning machine parameter estimation schemes. In the first place, the sensorless vector control theory on the three-phase voltage source-fed inverter induction motor drive system is developed in slip frequency based vector control principle. In particular, the essential procedure and considerations to measure and estimate the exact stator and rotor circuit parameters of general purpose induction motor are discussed under its operating conditions. The speed regulation characteristics of induction motor operated by the three-phase voltage-fed type current controlled PWM inverter using IGBT's is illustrated and evaluated fur machine parameter variations under the actual conditions of low frequency and high frequency operations for the load torque. In the second place, the variable speed induction motor drive system, employing sensorless vector control scheme which is based on three -phase high frequency carrier PWM inverter with automatic toning estimation schemes of the temperature -dependent and -independent machine circuit parameters, is practically implemented using DSP-based controller. Finally, the dynamic speed response performances for largely changed load torque disturbances as well as steady state speed vs. torque characteristics of this induction motor control implementation are illustrated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

  • 인버터 스위치의 개당 혹은 인버터와 모터 터미널의 분리로 인해 발생하는 고장을 해석하고 진단 알고리즘의 시험 평가를 위해 효과적으로 사용할 수 있는 영구자석 동기전동기 구동 인버터의 개방 고장에 의한 제어 특성해석 및 고장모델이 제시된다. 기존의 전동기의 해석과 제어에 많이 사용되는 dq 모델은 상전압 모델을 변환한 것으로 고장 상황에서는 3상평형 조건이 성립하지 않기 때문에 개방 회로의 입력 전압을 구하기가 쉽지 않아 고장 모델의 해석을 위해 직접 사용하기 어렵다. 이를 해결하기 위해 스위치 개방에 따른 전통기의 선전압 관계를 이용한 인버터의 고장 모델이 제안되고 제안된 고장모델의 타당성을 입증하기 위해 시뮬레이션이 수행된다. 전체 시스템이 DSP TMS320F28335에 의해 구현되어 동일 고장 조건에서의 비교 실험과 특성 해석이 수행된다.

단상 풀 브리지 인버터를 이용한 SRM 컨버터 토폴로지 (The Converter Topology with full Bridge Inverter for the Switched Reluctance Motor Drives)

  • In this paper the new converter topology using single-Phase full bridge inverter for the switched reluctance motor drives is proposed. The proposed SRM drives are supplied by the AC pulse voltage source, while the conventional drives are supplied by the DC voltage source. Speed of the SRM is controlled by adjusting the frequency and the multitude of output current of inverter. The SRM using the proposed converter reduces the switching loss and the machine core loss, and has ability to pre-regulate the input voltage. The total number of power switches become fewer than another topology as a number of stator poles becomes more. Power circuit of an inverter is simpler and its volume is smaller because the module device involving several switches is used as an inverter.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a new diode clamped multilevel inverter for variable frequency drive. The diode clamp multilevel inverter has been widely used for low power, high voltage applications due to its superior performance. However, it has some limitations such as increased number of switching devices and complex PWM control. In this paper, a new topology is proposed. New topology requires only (N-1) switching devices and (N-3) clamping diodes compared to existing topology. A modified APO-PWM control method is used to generate gate pulses for inverter. The proposed inverter topology is coupled with single phase induction motor and its performance is tested by MATLAB simulation. Finally, a prototype model has built and its performance is tested with single phase variable frequency drive.

  • This paper discusses a triple stage current source GTO inverter system for high power motor drives. The energy rebound circuit of the triple stage inverter not only controls the spike voltage of the GTO inverter but also facilitates PWM control of the thyristor rectifier operated at unity fundamental input power factor. Based on Pspice simulation and experiments, the principles and PWM pulse pattern for removing specific lower harmonics in the inverter's output current are discussed in detail.
