  • A determining method of the $\Gamma$ type eqivalent circuit parameters of induction motor driven by inverter source is proposed in this paper. The no-load test by rated frequency (60 Hz) and a blocked rotor test by 25% of rated frequency (l5Hz) are performed with inverter source, and the DC resistance of the stator winding is measured. To determine the more accurate parameters, four simultaneous equations obtained from equivalent circuit of the no-load test and blocked rotor test are solved by using initial values which are evaluated from simplified equivalent circuits. The induction motor performances are computed by using these parameters and compared with measured values of the tested motor. Then it is found that the compared results show good agreement between them.

  • This paper presents a simple circuit topology of the auxiliary active quasi-resonant DC link snubber-assisted three phase voltage source soft-switching inverter for small scale PM motor drive applications. The pulse processing drive circuit interface and its soft-switching operation are discussed from an experimental point of view. Moreover, its conductive noise is measured and evaluated for electrical AC servo motor drive as compared with that of the conventional hard switching inverter.

  • This paper proposes an economical method that the phase currents can be measured and reconstructed by means of the leg-shunt resistors in the 3-leg 2-phase vector-controlled inverter for 2-phase induction motor. In general, the phase currents of 2-phase induction motor have been measured using two Hall current sensors. However, because Hall current sensors are expensive, economically disadvantageous to apply in low power applications. The proposed method is verified by computer simulations and experiments to show the good performance of the vector control.

  • The time harmonics of an inverter output voltage cause high frequency currents in the rotor bars of a squirrel cage induction motor, so that the harmonic copper loss density increases in the upper lesion of the bars. Such an higher loss density makes an nonuniform thermal source and deforms the bars due to the thermal stress. Therefore, in this paper, the copper loss distribution in the rotor bar of an inverter-fed induction motor, which is the source of the thermal stress, is analyzed by the time-stepping finite element method. As a result, the harmonic copper losses of 11 subregions in a bar are calculated and compared with those of sinusoidally fed induction motor.

  • This paper presents a comparative study of P and PI controllers for a current source inverter (CSI) fed induction motor drive system. A dq model has been used which incorporates the induction motor and the inverter power supply with current feedback. The model is used first to generate the steady state curves to determine the operating point through computer simulations using the software package MATLAB. Then a transient analysis has been carried out for different values of the speed and current controller parameters. The controller value is adjusted by the Ziegler-Nichols method. It has been observed that the transient time to reach the steady state value is larger with the PI controller than with the P controller.

  • As the use of ASD due to developing of power electronics technology was increased, the failure of induction motor by switching surge also was increased. This paper presented a switching surge modeling of inverter and a induction motor modeling using EMTP program. As a output waveform of square wave inverter and PWM inverter and the input terminal waveform of induction motor were shown, the effect of switching surge was analyzed.

  • New inverter motor drive systems consume 30%~50% less energy compared to existing motor drive systems. For inverter motor drive systems, the development of a 1200V high side driver is critical. This paper presents an advanced 1200V high side driver with low power consumption and high ruggedness. This solution implements a high voltage level shifter which consumes low power by adding a clamped VGS LDMOS driver to the conventional short pulse generator. Moreover, this paper proposes a highly rugged 1200V LDMOS which improves SOA by limiting the hole current. This paper could be applied to smart power modules used for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and airconditioning) and industrial inverters. Consequently, this paper will provide design engineers with an understanding of how they can make a significant contribution to worldwide energy savings.

  • In this paper, the speed of single phase induction motor driven by full bridge inverter is controlled by a PID controller under condition of disturbance load and setpoint changes, and the current characteristics of the system is investigated to look for the good properties of A.C. motor torque through the results of experiment. From the experimental result, it is confirmed that the speed of single phase induction motor driven by full bridge series inverter can be smoothly controlled by an analog PID controller.

  • In this paper a Direct Torque Control(DTC) scheme for PWM three level inverter-fed induction motor drives, is presented and discussed. In orde to deal with DTC scheme applied three level inverter, the selection of voltage vector is proposed to minimize switching frequency and torque ripple. The simulation results shows a validity of the control scheme.
