재고통제기법을 이용한 효율적 포트폴리오 관리 방안 (A Methodology for Efficient Portfolio Management Using Inventory Control Technique)

  • This paper proposes an efficient portfolio management methodology named sSPPM with consideration of risk and required return. sSPPM employs Markowitz's portfolio model to select securities and adopts ($s$, $S$) policy that is a well-known technique in the inventory control area to revise the current portfolio. Computational experiments using virtual stock prices generated by monte carlo simulation method as well as real stock ones of KOSPI for recent 4 years are conducted to show the excellence of the portfolio management under ($s$, $S$) policy framework. The result shows that sSPPM is remarkably superior to both 6 or 12 months based periodic portfolio revision method and market (KOSPI index).

Optimal Inventory and Price Markdown Policy for a Two-Layer Market with Demand being Price and Time Dependent

  • This paper considers a SCM issue concerned with an integrated problem of inventory control and dynamic pricing strategies when demands are price and time dependent. The associated price markdowns are conducted for inventory control in a two-layer market consisting of retailer and outlet as in fashion apparel market. The objective function consists of revenue terms (sales revenue and salvage value) and purchasing cost term. Specifically, decisions on price markdowns and order quantity are made to maximize total profit in the supply chain so as to have zero inventory level at the end of the sales horizon. To solve the proposed problem, a gradient method is applied, which shows an optimal decision on both the initial inventory level and the discount pricing policy. Sensitivity analysis is conducted on the demand parameters and the final comments on the practical use of the proposed model are presented.

시스템 가용도를 고려한 수리부품의 재고수준 최적화 (Optimization for Inventory Level of Spare Parts Considering System Availability)

  • In almost all of the organizations, the cost for acquiring and maintaining the inventory takes a considerable portion of the management budget, and thus a certain constraint is set upon the budget itself. The previous studies on inventory control for each item that aimed to improve the fill rate, backorder, and the expenditure on inventory are fitting for the commercially-operated SCM, but show some discrepancies when they are applied to the spare parts for repairing disabled systems. Therefore, many studies on systematic approach concept considering spare parts of various kinds simultaneously have been conducted to achieve effective performance for the inventory control at a lower cost, and primarily, METRIC series models can be named. However, the past studies were limited when dealing with the probability distributions for representing the situation on demand and transportation of the parts, with the (S-1, S) inventory control policy, and so on. To address these shortcomings, the Continuous Time Markov Chain (CTMC) model, which considers the phase-type distributions and the (s, Q) inventory control policies to best describe the real-world situations inclusively, is presented in this study. Additionally, by considering the cost versus the system availability, the optimization of the inventory level, based on this model, is also covered.

  • Various inventory control theories have tried to modelling and analyzing supply chains by using quantitative methods and characterization of optimal control policies. However, despite of various efforts in this research filed, the existing models cannot afford to be applied to the realistic problems. The most unrealistic assumption for these models is customer demand. Most of previous researches assume that the customer demand is stationary with a known distribution, whereas, in reality, the customer demand is not known a priori and changes over time. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning based adaptive echelon base-stock inventory control policy for a multi-stage, serial supply chain with non-stationary customer demand under the service level constraint. Using various simulation experiments, we prove that the proposed inventory control policy can meet the target service level quite well under various experimental environments.

  • 본 논문은 재구성가능생산시스템 환경에서 e-MarketPlace를 통한 거래상황을 도입한 주기적 검토 재고모형을 연구한다. 의사결정권자는 고객의 확률적 수요를 만족시키기 위해서 생산용량/생산량을 확장/축소하거나 e-Marketplace를 통해 긴급으로 재고를 보충/처리한다. e-MarketPlace로부터의 거래 시 재고의 보충/처리에 걸리는 리드타임은 시스템의 생산리드타임보다 짧지만, 단위거래비용(구매/판매비용)은 생산용량/생산량을 한 단위 확장/축소하는 비용보다 높기 때문에 각 대안들의 비용-리드타임간의 trade-off가 고려된다. 추가적으로 e-MarketPlace로부터 재고를 보충하거나 생산용량을 확장하는 경우 그 수량에 따른 규모의 경제를 고려하기 위해 고정 비용이 포함된다. 우리는 제안되는 모형의 최적 정책형태를 규정하기 위해 동적계획모형과 K-convexity 기법을 적용하고, base stock policy와 (s,S) type policy의 조합으로 구성된 최적 생산-재고관리 정책을 제시한다.

  • As customers' demands for diversified small-quantity products have been increased, there have been great efforts for a firm to respond to customers' demands flexibly and minimize the cost of inventory at the same time. To achieve that goal, in SCM perspective, many firms have tried to control the inventory efficiently. We present an mathematical model to determine the near optimal (s, S) policy of the supply chain, composed of multi suppliers, a warehouse and multi retailers. (s, S) policy is to order the quantity up to target inventory level when inventory level falls below the reorder point. But it is difficult to analyze inventory level because it is varied with stochastic demand of customers. To reflect stochastic demand of customers in our model, we do the analyses in the following order. First, the analysis of inventory in retailers is done at the mathematical model that we present. Then, the analysis of demand pattern in a warehouse is performed as the inventory of a warehouse is much effected by retailers' order. After that, the analysis of inventory in a warehouse is followed. Finally, the integrated mathematical model is presented. It is not easy to get the solution of the mathematical model, because it includes many stochastic factors. Thus, we get the solutions after the stochastic demand is approximated, then they are verified by the simulations.

  • This paper considers a continuous-review two-echelon inventory control problem with one-to-one replenishment policy incorporated and with lost sales allowed where demand arrives In a stationary Poisson process The problem Is formulated using METRIC-approximation in a combined approach of pricing and (S-1.S) Inventory policy, for which an iterative solution algorithm is derived with respect to the corresponding one-warehouse multi-retailor supply chain. Specifically, decisions on retail pricing and warehouse inventory policies are made in integration to maximize total profit in the supply chain. The objective function of the model consists of sub-functions of revenue and cost (holding cost and penalty cost). To test the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm, numerical experiments are performed The computational results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient and derives quite good decisions

An Analysis of Two-stage Manufacturing Systems with Random Processing Times

  • This papaer analyzes a system with consists of two workstations that are separated by finite buffer storage. In this system, we assume that the processing time in each station in a random variable and each station is not vulnerable to failure. To control the in-process inventory in the serial production system we use the (R, r) policy which is similar to the (s, S) policy in the inventory theory. Under the (R, r) policy the preceding station is forced down when the inventory level in the buffer reaches R and starts operation again when the inventory level falls to r. For the model developed, we analyze the system characteristics and the system performances.

  • This paper deals with a supplier-managed inventory(SMI) control for a two-echelon supply chain model with a service facility and a single supplier. The service facility is allocated to customers and provides a service using items of inventory that are purchased from the supplier, Assuming that the supplier knows the information of customer queue length as well as inventory position in the service facility at the time when it makes a replenishment decision, we identify an optimal replenishment policy which minimizes the total supply chain costs by reflecting these information into the replenishment decision. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the SMI strategy can be more cost-effective when the information of both customer queue length and inventory position is shared than when the information of inventory position only is shared.

Determining Items to be Inventoried in a Manufacturing Process

  • In most manufacturing systems, all customers are expected to take deliveries from inventory. However, in some situations, management may keep inventory only for some customers and not keep inventory for the others. The reason is that they would like to make as much benefit as possible from the first group of customers and this may help sell these customers on further products. This paper attempts to determine the cutoff between the group of customers who are given products immediately when their orders come and other customers who will be served but have to wait for the production of their products. The optimum set of customers to be served immediately and the optimum set of customers who have to wait for the production are found using linear programming to optimize perceived manufacturer benefits measured as the product of the benefit factor and the corresponding profit per customer. The results indicate that it is not necessarily wise to keep inventory for all customers.
