  • This paper explores and proposes the evaluation criteria of design projects in the entry-level design course. In the entry-level engineering design course the students proceeds various design projects to understand the concept of engineering design process and to develop the creativity. The evaluation criteria of design projects is very important component because the outcome of students in the engineering design course are effected from the evaluation criteria that enforces the students to focus on doing their task. According to this case study the evaluation criteria can be good solution to evaluate the design projects. By the outcome standard of ABEEK on the entry-level engineering design course the evaluation criteria was selected with the results of design projects such as design plan, report, handicrafts, objectives.

  • This study introduce how distributed object technology can be applied effectively to use in a integrated structural design systems environment with the rapid increasement in the use of network technology. The architecture and management models of the developed systems are described by the CORBA(Com mon Object Request Broke Architecture) distribution standard and objects in Java language. The proposed system can be used for communicating with data between remote designers, regardless of the H/W or S/W platforms they use. Introduction of distributed objects methodologies to a Integrated structural design systems provide advanced levels of integration in structural design environment.

  • The introduction of the BIM into the architectural service industry is currently not being conducted smoothly. The purpose of this research is to, considering the current state of the market, establish long-term strategies that will enable the BIM to successfully settle. The survey has been conducted in target of architects in order to understand pending issues. Additionally, the articles regarding BIM have been researched for the purpose of better understanding the current societal demands. Indicated by survey results, the architects agree to a certain extent upon the need of BIM for architectural designs, yet also express concerns that the BIM introduction does not guarantee betterment in efficiency. The problematic aspects of BIM introduction that have already been discussed in some policy-related studies include a multitude of complicated issues that are unable to be resolved within a short period of time: underdeveloped BIM infra, the limit of BIM software itself, political issues regarding licensing and lack of social awareness. Based on the issues mentioned above, three main areas of focus along with their respective practical strategies and tasks have been designated. Finally, this research has analyzed the current situation and its issues along with the political solutions of 12 projects, amongst which include the standard for plan drawings, licensing system improvement, cost standard and BIM introduction support.   • This paper deals with the introduction of capstone design projects based on invention education in Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Korea Maritime University. This course is referred to as Creative Engineering Design for spring semester of 4th-year undergraduates. The course focuses on creative thinking and cooperative mind to students by learning engineering design skills, realizing their idea through design project and recognizing practicality of their systems. To improve creative thinking of students, intellectual property (IP) education is very helpful. If engineering students take training program in IP, it will be very beneficial for CEOs to manage intellectual capital in many industries and to ensure competition power in their business. This study suggested that students take interest in connecting their ideas with inventions through invention education reinforcing an invention and a patent exercise. It is expected that this study may help to develop new curriculum of capstone design project including IP education in many universities.

  • This study presents the applicable possibility of numerical optimization and Genetic Algorithm in the design of truss structures using discrete variables and real constraints. The introduction of Genetic Algorithm in the design of truss structures enables us to do easier formulation and handle discrete variables. To investigate these applicable possibility, the design of 15 - bar truss structures has been studied using GT/STRUDL and Genetic Algorithm and the results of Genetic Algorithm are compared with GT/STRUDL's.

  • IEC 60300 series, the international standards on dependability management system are newly developed and introduced rapidly worldwide. In order to meet this situation, it is necessary to apply them to the Korean industries effectively. This requires for us to prepare in advance for the introduction of the certification system of IEC 60300. It includes the establishment of the infrastructure such as documentation of Korean Standards, introduction of test equipments and test manuals, recognition of the certification body and training of specialists etc. This paper addresses the first step for the Introduction of IEC 60300. It includes the necessity of introduction of the system, general requirements and procedures for the certification of the industries, sampling methods design and establishment of the dependability assurance system of the materials.

  • This paper deals with the introduction of capstone design project by team activities in Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Korea Maritime University. This course is referred to as Creative Engineering Design for spring semester of 4th-year undergraduates. The course focuses on creative thinking and cooperative mind to students by learning engineering design skills, realizing their idea through design project and recognizing practicality of their systems. The intent of the course is to provide a true "capstone" experience, where students can combine their skills to achieve the successful completion of a project. This paper describes class process and evaluation method, and cooperative works with mentees and industrial mentors connected through Hanium network for IT mentoring activities.

  • This paper presents an interactive educational game design procedure using the DGBL (Digital Game-based Learning) methodology that will help developers to design a multipurpose educational game. The DGBL consists of five stages, which are Analysis, Design, Development, Quality Assurance, and Implementation & Evaluation. This paper is focusing only on the specific technologies included in the Analysis and Design stages based on the DGBL. The first Analysis stage consists of gathering requirements, determining game ideation and learning objectives, and the second Design stage consists of defining the game architecture and database scheme. In this paper, we have designed a lecturers introduction game for a new student or freshmen as a case study to apply the Analysis and Design stages based on DGBL, as well as showing the prototype result in the form of a storyboard.
