  • Geophysical logging is routinely undertaken as part of most coal mine exploration programs. Currently, the main application for the logs is to determine coal seam depth and to qualitatively estimate coal quality, lithology, and rock strength. However, further information can be obtained, if quantitative log interpretation is made. To assist in the uptake of quantitative interpretation, we discuss log responses in terms of the mineralogy of the clastic sedimentary rocks frequently found in the Australian black coal mining areas of the Sydney and Bowen Basins. We find that the log responses can be tied to the mineralogy with reasonable confidence. Ambiguities in the interpretation will be better resolved if a full suite of logs is run. A method for checking for internal consistency, by comparing calculated and observed velocities, is also described. A key driver for quantitative interpretation is geotechnical characterisation. We propose a classification system for clastic rocks that takes into consideration physical rock properties that can be inferred from geophysical logs.

  • Background : Interpretative reporting is an important aspect of laboratory medicine. The large menu of laboratory tests available today makes it increasingly difficult for the non-specialist to order and interpret all laboratory tests. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of an expert system to interpret laboratory tests and help physicians order the appropriate tests. Materials and Methods : In order to interpret laboratory tests, a rules-based expert system was developed. In this module, if-then rules were used to interpret the given test result patterns (e.g. urinalysis, anemia, hepatitis B virus, hypercholesterolemia, glucose, syphilis, and tumor markers) and select matching text elements. The system was used to evaluate 535 subjects who visited a health-check program. Results : The overall abnormal rate was 50.5% in the expert system; 34% for cholesterol, 9.9% for urinalysis, 8.0% for anemia, 7.7% for thyroid function tests, 4.5% for tumor marker study, 4.7% for hepatitis virus antigen, 4.3% for serum glucose, and 1.1% for syphilis. Conclusion : These results indicate that the application of the expert system for the interpretation of laboratory tests may provide a useful method for the interpretation of reports. However more rules are needed for the application to in-patients.

  • In order to automate the process of mail sorting by delivery sequence, it is necessary to prepare a postal address database and to interpret written addresses on the mail-pieces with the database and OCR technology. The address database is a critical factor of automation and informatization of postal service since it could be used not only in address recognition but also in various mail processing. In this study, we design the schema of postal address database, design the postal address file based on it and explain the method of address interpretation and retrieval using it. We analyze infonnation requirements for transformation of postal address into the standardized format and consider them in the process of design. The postal address file can be used by address matching or retrieval system as well as by Hangul address recognition system for automation of delivery sequence mail-sorting.

  • To estimate the tectonic displacement of the Chugaryeong Fault System (CFS), gravity surveys were conducted along the Dongducheon fault (DF) and the Wangsukcheon fault (WF). A total of 1,100 stations for the DF and WF regions have been added to the current gravity database. The results of the gravity interpretation indicate that (1) the dextral displacement of the DF is about 3,000 m, similar to the tectonic displacement (2,900-3,100 m) shown in the geological map. (2) The dextral displacement of the WF is about 3,200 m. (3) Taken together, the tectonic displacement of the CFS is estimated to be about 3,000 m on average. To investigate more accurate tectonic displacement of the CFS, further gravity surveys is planned for the Pocheon fault, Gyeonggang fault, and Inje fault.

  • We employed a hierarchical document classification method to classify a massive collection of electronic medical records(EMR) written in both Korean and English. Our experimental system has been learned from 5,000 records of EMR text data and predicted a newly given set of EMR text data over 68% correctly. We expect the accuracy rate can be improved greatly provided a dictionary of medical terms or a suitable medical thesaurus. The classification system might play a key role in some clinical decision support systems and various interpretation systems for clinical data.

  • SDIAS (Single Doppler Image Analysis System), which can estimate the vertical wind profiles from single Doppler color displays, is developed here. Various single Doppler velocity signatures are simulated using horizontally uniform wind fields that vary with height. This system is very simple and efficient for interpreting the color displays. So, SDIAS can be used to get some useful informations on wind for understanding the present weather situation and forecast.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristics of the rich and noble interpretation system of 『Japyeongjinjeon』 and 『Jeokcheonsu』. Myungrihak is a study that began with the study of human wealth and nobility There are 『Japyeongjinjeon』 and 『Jeokcheonsu』 as two major classics of Myeongrihak. However, while these representative books are similar to each other in the interpretation system for the interpretation of wealth and nobility, they also have different aspects. Looking at this. In 『Jepyeong Jinjeon』, the success or failure of the Su-Ju is judged first. If it is Seong-Gyeog (成格), it becomes a good Su-ju (吉), and if it is a Pae-Gyeog (敗格), it becomes a bad Sa-Ju (凶). Even when it comes to Seong-Gyeog, among them there are Gui-Gyeong (貴格) and great Gui-Gyeong (大貴格). Representative great Gui-Gyeong include Jaein-Byeongtu (財印並透), Sigsin -Saengjae (食神生財), Sigsin-Hapsal (食神合煞), Sal-yongsigje (煞用食制) and Sanggwan-Yonggwan (傷官用官). In 『Jeokcheonsu』, there is Jaegi-tongmun (財氣通門) as a Su-Ju with wealth and Gwanseong-Ihoe as a Su-Ju with nobility (貴). Hyundai Group Chairman Chung Ju-young, the representative chaebol of Korea, becomes a Seong-Gyeog in the argument of Japyeong Jinjeon』 and is a Sigsin -Saengjae, and Jaegi-tongmun according to the argument of 『Jeokcheonsu』 are met The first, third, and seventh conditions. Samsung Group Chairman Lee Byung-cheol meets the seventh condition clearly in the argument of 『Jeepyeong Jinjeon』, which is Seong-Gyeog and Sal-yongsigje. In this study, we find out what kind of interpretation method there are and how they differ from the two classics through the original text. In addition, the suitability of the theoretical composition is examined by comparing and examining the characteristics of the rich and noble interpretation system through empirical examples of modern representatives. It is hoped that it will be of some help to related research in the future.

  • The goal is to assess the effect of fatigue loading on mechanical properties of Fiberite 934/T300 laminates of pressure vessel using the recent variational mechanics analysis. This analysis has been useful in providing fracture mechanics interpretation of matrix microcracking in cross-ply laminates. This paper describes using the new energy release rate analysis for a fracture mechanics based interpretation of microcrack formation during fatigue loading. The master plot by modified Paris-law gives a complete characterization of a material system's resistance to microcrack formation.

  • Of all the annotations of Rites of Zhou for 2,000 years, there is no single line of history of ore contents related to city building in its current perspective. This is because the definitive evidence of the interpretation of related phrases is regarded as top-level guidelines called "辨方正位(Byeonbang-Jeongwi)", and their specific contents have been discussed in '匠人建國(Jangin-Geonguk)'. The phrases of '匠人營國(Jangin-Yeongguk)', considered to be the key buzzword related to city building, must be reconsidered for these reasons. As such, this paper strives to analyze the system of logic formed by consistent interpretation that flowed for 2,000 years from Han to Qing dynasties, and to discover the principles of city building used in Confucian classics.

  • Subspace-based state space system identification (4SID) methods have been demonstrated to per-form well in a number of applications, but the properties of these have not been fully analyzed or understood yet. For applying the methods, no assumptions on structure of realization are needed and any coordinate transformation is allowed for the estimates. This is one reason why many kinds of properties expected for identification procedures have not been clarified yet. We illustrate, by using Schur complement, an interpretation of the R matrix yielded by the QR factorization in the 4SID procedure. The results in this paper can be useful for analysis of properties of parameters obtained by 4SID methods.
