Clinical Survival: Male Nurses Adaptation Process for Female Nurses (임상에서의 생존: 여성간호사에 대한 남성간호사의 적응 과정)

  • The purpose of this study is to find meaning of male nurses's adaptation to female nurses by grsping deeply what the adaption process of male nurses is from male nurses's point of views. What is the adaptation of male nurses to female nurses? With this research subject, we explored the adaptation process of male nurses to female nurses through phenomenological method. The study participants were 12 male nurses with more than 25 months of experience working in hospitals who agreed to the intention and method of the study. The results of this study were derived from 39 meanings of composition, 13 theme bundles, and 4 categories. As for the category, it was revealed that, in the case of maladjustment situation, there was a tendency to assimilate into force, interpersonal relationship, to improve the job ability, and to become a dedicated nurse. The results of this study can be used as basic data to develop effective nursing workforce management measures in the clinical field by understanding the adaptation process to female nurses of male nurses.

Delirium-Related Knowledge, Caregiving Performance, Stress Levels, and Mental Health of Family Caregivers of Terminal Cancer Patients with Delirium in a Hospice Care Unit

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge, caregiving performance, stress levels, and mental health of family caregivers of terminal cancer patients with delirium, insofar as these characteristics are relevant for delirium. Methods: Between May 1, 2019, and June 1, 2020, 96 family caregivers of terminal cancer patients with delirium completed a structured survey, the results of which were analyzed. Results: The average correct answer rate for delirium-related knowledge was 53.2% across all subcategories, which included knowledge of causes (41.5%), symptoms (65.4%), and caregiving (51.7%). The average score for family caregivers' performance of caregiving for delirium was 2.60±0.5, with subcategories including caregiving for patients without delirium (2.16±0.95), caregiving for patients with delirium (2.84±1.01), and stress related to caregiving for delirium (39.88±16.55), as well as categories such as patient-related caregiving (44.32±28.98), duty-related caregiving (44.21±30.15), and interpersonal relationship-related caregiving (22.35±25.03). For mental health, the average score among family caregivers was 1.96±0.70, with the highest score being for the category of additional items (2.28±0.84). Family caregivers of patients with hyperactive delirium as the delirium subtype had higher scores for caregiving performance than caregivers of patients with mixed delirium. Conclusion: Scores for the delirium-related knowledge and caregiving performance of family caregivers were low, while their caregiving stress levels were high due to their lack of knowledge and experience. This indicates the importance of delirium-related education for family members of patients with delirium and the necessity of developing nursing intervention programs to help manage stress and promote mental health among family caregivers.

Influencing Effects of Job Stress, Professional Autonomy, Reciprocity on the Job Embeddedness of Comprehensive Nursing Care Unit Nurses (간호·간병통합서비스 병동 간호사의 직무 스트레스, 전문직 자율성, 호혜성이 직무착근도에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing effects of job stress, professional autonomy, and reciprocity on the job embeddedness among comprehensive nursing care unit nurses. Methods: The participants in this study were 147 nurses who have worked for over 6 months in Comprehensive Nursing Care Unit. Data were collected from January 3 to January 31, 2022 from six general hospitals with more than 300 beds in three cities in G, G and P. Results: As the results of hierarchical regression analysis, job embeddedness was lower when nurses had clinical experiences for 1 to under 5 years (β=-.49, p<.001), 5 to under 10 years (β=-.27, p=.035), 10 to under 20 years (β=-.54, p<.001) compared to those who had clinical experiences for more than 20 years. Also, job embeddedness was higher when there was greater balance within team caregiving of reciprocality (β=.27, p<.001) and intrinsic reward (β=.22, p=.003), and lower role conflict (β =-.27, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of the study showed that job embededness would increase if the role conflict of comprehensive nursing care unit nurses reduces, if there was a culture that the members can make cooperative relationship with other health care professionals and, if there was an appropriate intrinsic reward depending on their work experience.

Video-conference fatigue of college students (MZ세대의 화상회의 피로감)

  • In an acceleration of 'untact' society during the COVID-19 pandemic, video conferencing platforms have been provided to connect the isolated and to overcome the limit of having interpersonal relationships. While these services brought a great deal of benefits, they also increased the number of people who suffer from additional fatigue from video conferencing. This study, thus, aimed to identify the factors of using video conferencing services and further to examine the relationship between the factors and the users' overall fatigue. Through focus-group interviews and survey, four main factors of fatigue (restriction from untact communication, difficulty of use, background set-ups, discomfort from excessive attention) were identified. This study also found the positive relationships of restriction from untact communication and background set-ups on the users' overall fatigue. The results does not only provide implication on defining new fatigue factors from young generations but also help practitioners and service providers to improve the deficits of services that the real users currently experience.

The correlation analysis between fatigue and health promoting life style among a rural college students (일 지역 대학생의 피로와 건강증진 생활양식과의 관계분석)

  • The disease patterns among the Korean was shifted from acute and infectious diseases to chronic diseases. According to the these disease patterns trends, people have concerned about the health promotion and health behaviors. Pender's(1996) revised health promotion model(HPM) is consist of three categories; Individual characteristics and experiences, Behavior-specific cognitions and affect, behavioral outcome. Of these categories, individual characteristics and experiences, this category of variables is considered to be of biological, psychological and socio-cultural personal factors, especially, individual fatigue. Futhermore. these variables constitute a critical core for nursing intervention, as they are subject to modification through nursing actions. But there is no few the research of the relationship between the fatigue and health promotion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between the fatigue and health promoting life style among a rural college students. Additionally, this descriptive correlational study identified the relation of demographic factors and fatigue, health promoting life style. From June 20 to 26, 1998, a convenience sample of 270 college students completed the questionnaire of the fatigue and health promoting life style profile which were developed by the Yoshitake(1978) and Walker, et al.(1987), respectively. The descriptive correlational statistics, mean, t-test, ANONA, Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data gathered with SAS pc+ program. The results were as it follows: 1. The average fatigue score of the subjects was $64.93{\pm}12.89$. Fatigue scores by subcategory were physical symptoms($23.5{\pm}4.87$). psychological symptoms($22.11{\pm}4.66$) and neuro-sensory symptoms($19.32{\pm}5.14$). With the respect to the demographic characteristics of the subjects, there were statistically significant differences between the demographic factors and fatigue, especially, sex(t==3.69 p<0.01), major(t=-2.89 p<0.01). the experience of family illness(t=2.76 p<0.01). 2. The average health promoting life style item score of the subjects was $2.33{\pm}0.33$. In the subcategories, the highest degree of performance was self-actualization(2.94), following interpersonal support(2.81). stress management(2.33), exercise(2.20), nutrition(2.10), and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.73). There were the significant differences on the learning of health education(t=2.00 p<0.01). religion(F=3.01, p<0.05), circle activity(t=2.07, p<0.05), nutrition control(t=5.25, p<0.01) of demographical factors with the health promoting life style. 3. The correlation between the fatigue and health promoting life style made statistically no significance(r=-0.09731, p>0.05). But there was negative significant relationship between health promoting life style and psychological symptom as a fatigue subcategory(r=-0.15721, p<0.05). The self-actualization showed negative significant correlation with all fatigue subcategory. The health responsibility showed significant relationship with total fatigue(r=0.13050. p<0.05). For further research, it suggests to replicate the correlational and causal study between the fatigue and the health promoting life style using the another fatigue scale which is able to measure the subjective and objective fatigue degree. And it needs to develop the nursing intervention program for maintaining and promoting the health behavior as well as for decreasing the college students's fatigue.

Uncertainty, Social Support & Powerlessness in Mothers of Handicapped Children (장애아 어머니의 불확실성, 사회적 지지 및 무력감)

  • The purposes of this study were to measure the degree of perceived uncertainty, social support & powerlessness, to examine the relationship between the perceived uncertainty, social support & powerlessness and then to find the predictors of powerlessness in mother's of handicapped children. The subjects of this study consist of 102 mothers of handicapped children, registered at rehabilitation & handicapped children school. Data was collected from September 1998 to March 1999. The tools used in this study were Mishel's the Parents' Perception of Uncertainty Scale (28 item, 4 likert scale), Miller's Powerlessness measurement Scale(28 itewt 4 likert scale) & Cohen's Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (40 items, 4 likert scale). Data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Duncan comparison, Pearson Correlation coefficient & Stepwise multiple regression Results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Mothers perceived their uncertainty to be slightly high(Mn 2.50). The degree of perceived uncertainty by the four components were followed as : lack of clarity(2.69), unpredictability(2.56), ambiguity(2.56) & lack of information(2.46). The degree of perceived uncertainty of the mothers of handicapped children revealed to be influenced significantly by age of children, admission experience, disability types of children. 2. The degree of mothers' powerlessness was measured to be slightly high(Mn 2.14). The degree of perceived powerlessness of the mothers with handicapped children revealed to be influenced significantly by age of children, duration of illness admission experience,8E marital status of the mothers. 3. Mothers perceived their social support to be slightly high(Mn 2.71). The degree of perceived social support revealed to be influenced significantly by sex of children, married state of mothers. 4. Mothers' uncertainty was related positively to the mothers' powerlessness(r=.33, p=.0008). And also mothers' powerlessness was related inversely to social support(r=-.50, p=.0001). But, mothers' uncertainty was not related to social support significantly. 5. To analyze the variables which affect powerlessness, stepwise regression was implemented. As a result, about 61% of the powerlessness were explained by social support, marital status of the mothers and perceived uncertainty. Based upon these results, it is recommended that the nurses, who are caring handicapped children and their families, provide various support programs for them to overcome their difficulties. Also programs which decrease the uncertainty & powerlessness used social support multidimensionally & individually are recommended to be developed.

A Study on the Grounded Theory on Conflict Experiences of Elderly Participants in a senior Employment Promotion Program : Focused on Creating an Aged-friendly Village (노인일자리 참여 노인의 갈등 경험에 관한 근거이론 연구 : 고령친화마을 만들기를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to categorize conflict resolution by exploring the conflict experiences of the elderly who participate in jobs for the elderly to create an elderly-friendly village. This study applied grounded theory, a qualitative research method, For data collection, a FGI was conducted by sampling 5 elderly job participants in ◯◯-dong, ◯◯-gu, Seoul. The data were analyzed according to the paradigm model of Strauss & Corbin(1998). As a result of the analysis, causal conditions were social, economic, psychological and physical motivations for participation and contextual conditions were economic difficulties, social disconnection, and differences in life experiences influenced the initiation of conflict. The core phenomena were conflict initiated by 'the difference between experience and role' and 'the difference in psychosocial relationship skills', and the intervention condition were the activation of interpersonal relationships through communication to resolve the conflict, social integration through the use of capabilities, It appeared as a regular social activities. The interaction strategy emerged as a strategy for resolving conflict for senior citizen jobs through education, mutual support for building trust, and successful senior-friendly village program operation. The consequences, it was found that job conflicts for the elderly were alleviated by finding one's life, activating community exchanges, increasing a sense of achievement, and growing a sense of community. In conclusion, the conflict resolution types for senior citizens were classified into educational solution type, mutual support solution type, and success experience solution type.

Effects of Social Exclusion on Displaced Aggression: the Mediatingon Effect of Stress and Conditional Direct Effect of Social Support (사회적 배제가 전위된 공격성에 미치는 영향: 스트레스의 매개효과 및 사회적지지의 조건부 직접효과)

  • This study focused on the characteristics of motiveless crimes that mainly originated from interpersonal problems and were acts of revenge against innocent third parties. This study confirmed the relationship between the experience of social exclusion and displaced aggression and examined the relationship between the two variables. We sought to confirm the role of related factors such as stress and social support. For this purpose, we established and tested hypotheses about the mediatingon effect of stress and the moderated mediatingon effect of social support on the effect of social exclusion experience on displaced aggression among 353 adult males aged between 19 and 49 years. The main results are that, first, social exclusion had a positive effect on displaced aggression. Second, stress was found to partially mediate the relationship between social exclusion and displaced aggression. Third, the hypothesis that social support would moderate the mediating effect of stress was not provedvaild, but the conditional direct effect of social support was confirmed in the mediation model. In other words, social support did not affect the indirect effect mediated by stress, but appeared to moderate the direct effect between social exclusion and displaced aggression. Social exclusion's prediction of displaced aggression was significant only in the average social support group (mean) and the high group (M+1SD), and appeared to increase as the group increased. This means that in groups with high social support, displaced aggression is used as a stress control strategy, which is a different result from previous studies that found that social support plays a role in lowerings aggression. People with low levels of social support showed unexpected results in that they used displaced aggression less frequently despite their experiencinge of social exclusion. In the discussion, the social implications of these results were interpreted, and additional research ideas were proposed to specify the relationship between social exclusion and displaced aggression.

The Suggestion of Design Thinking Process and its Feasibility Study for Fostering Group Creativity of Elementary-Secondary School Students in Science Education (과학 교육에서 초·중등학생의 집단 창의성 함양을 위한 디자인적 사고 프로세스의 제안 및 타당성 검토 연구)

  • In this study, we suggested the design thinking process that was possible to be introduced in science education and also examined the validity of the process in terms of group creativity. To do this, the design thinking process applicable to science education was selected from a variety of design thinking processes developed abroad, and then the process was modified and supplemented. We created the education program based on the developed design thinking process and applied it to high school students. The results revealed that we could offer the design thinking process through the five stages: 'understanding knowledge', 'empathy', 'sharing perspective', 'generating idea', and 'prototype'. With the results of the application of the program, we could confirm the relationship building and information seeking attributes in the understanding knowledge stage and the user-orientation, relationship building, and interpersonal understanding attributes in the empathy stage. We could also find the organization of the team attribute in the sharing perspective stage and the analytical strategic thinking attributes in the generating idea stage. Finally, the communication and analytical strategic thinking attributes in the prototype stage were confirmed. All of the key attributes of the group creativity found from skilled professionals were not confirmed from the students. However, we could ascertain the possibilities that the students should experience the process of group creativity and learn the relevant values through the developed design thinking process.

An Exploratory Study of Music in Mood Regulation (음악 사용 기분조절 방략에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between music listening and mood regulation. The effects of personality traits, music education, and sex on music use for mood regulation were also examined. Participants were 529 undergraduate students who completed the Korean Music in Mood Regulation Scale, Interpersonal Personality Item Pool (IPIP), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule, and a questionnaire on their music education. Correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and t tests were conducted to explore the relationship among the measured variables. The results showed that music listening was related to enhancement of positive mood but not improvement of negative mood. Participants who had received extracurricular music education were more likely to use music listening as a strategy to regulate their mood than were participants without music education. Women were more likely to use music for mood regulation than were men. The multiple regression results indicate that individuals who rated themselves highly on Agreeableness and Openness to Experience on the IPIP were more likely to listen to music for mood regulation. These findings stress that music listening can be an effective strategy for mood regulation, which is critical for one's emotional well-being. It also indicates that effective music use as a mood regulation strategy varies depending on one's personal characteristics and history of music education.
