사물인터넷 기반 웨어러블 디바이스인 활동량측정기의 특성에 대한 탐색연구 (An Explorative Study on the Features of Activity Trackers as IoT based Wearable Devices)

  • 최근 들어서 정보통신기술 자체뿐만 사물인터넷(IoT)을 활용한 비즈니스가 빠르게 확대되고 있다. 일반적으로 사물인터넷 중에서 웨어러블 디바이스는 고객을 대상으로 활용된 분야 중 가장 선도적인 적용분야로 인식되고 있다. 본 연구는 먼저 웨어러블 디바이스의 대표적 응용분야인 활동량 측정기에 대해서 고객의 니즈를 파악하고, 이를 잘 알려진 마케팅 믹스(제품, 가격, 유통, 촉진)와 연계시킨다. 이를 위해서 대학생들을 대상으로 서베이가 수행되었으며, 활동량 측정기의 현재 및 잠재된 니즈를 밝혔다. 또한 이러한 니즈는 마케팅 믹스에 의해서 분류되었다. 활동량 측정기는 다른 정보통신기기와는 달리 잠재된 욕구가 많았으며, 의료기기적 특성으로 인해 유통채널 등도 온라인, 대리점이 아닌 신뢰성을 보장할 직영점이나 오프라인 매장의 선호도가 크다. 본 연구결과는 일반 사물인터넷으로서 활동량 측정기뿐 아니라 웨어러블 디바이스를 개발하려는 개발자와 경영층에게 디자인요소에 관한 새로운 시사점을 제공할 것이다.

The Impact of Privacy Control on Users' Intention to Use Smart Home Internet of Things (IoT) Services

  • Despite the diverse benefits of smart home Internet of Things (IoT) services, the biggest obstacle to the actual usage of those services is concern about privacy. However, little research has investigated the impact of privacy control on users' intention to use smart home services. Based on communication privacy management theory and privacy calculus theory, this study investigates how privacy control options affect users' perceived benefits and costs and how those perceptions affect individuals' intentions to use smart home services by conducting an experiment. Our results showed that smart home privacy control options decreased perceived benefits and increased perceived costs. The perceived benefits and costs significantly affected the intention to use smart home security services. More intriguingly, the effect of perceived benefit was found to be stronger than that of the expected cost. This research contributes to the field of IoT and smart home research and provides practitioners with notable guidelines.

Case Study on Nest's "Internet of Energy (IoE)" Business Model: Based on Strategic Choices for Connected Product

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Nest Labs (Nest)'s business strategy. The activities based on strategic choices for monetizing connected product are investigated. Nest's capacity and functionality is to offer a seamless integration of devices, platforms, and services and the "Works with Nest" offers an ecosystem fulfilling the needs of different partners. For monetizing customer data, Nest provides a seamless customer experience supported by product incentives. Nest introduces open APIs to connect its connected products to the wider Internet of things (IoT) and open to "If This, Then That." The Nest app controls them from one single place. Nest partners with 32 energy providers as of 2017 and they provide energy from renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Nest also creates a sales channels in direct and indirect route and expands is business model to other industries such as home-rental service, 'AirBnB' to help consumers become more energy-efficient at home.

IoT 서비스 활성화를 위한 IoT 정보공유 오픈 마켓 비즈니스 모델 (The Business Model of IoT Information Sharing Open Market for Promoting IoT Service)

  • IoT (Internet of Things) is a collective term referring to application services that provide information through sensors/devices connected to the internet. The real world application of IoT is expanding fast along with growing number of sensors/devices. However, since IoT application relies on vertical combination of sensors/devices networks, information sharing within IoT services remains unresolved challenge. Consequently, IoT sensors/devices demand high construction and maintenance costs, rendering the creation of new IoT services potentially expensive. One solution is to launch an IoT open market for information sharing similar to that of App Store for smart-phones. Doing so will efficiently allow novel IoT services to emerge across various industries, because developers can purchase licenses to access IoT resources directly via an open market. Sharing IoT resource information through an open market will create an echo-system conducive for easy utilization of resources and communication between IoT service providers, resource owners, and developers. This paper proposes the new business model of IoT open market for information sharing, and the requirements for ensuring security and standardization of open markets.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) has gotten a lot of research attention in recent years. IoT is seen as the internet's future. IoT will play a critical role in the future, transforming our lifestyles, standards, and business methods. In the following years, the use of IoT in various applications is likely to rise. In the world of information technology, cyber security is critical. In today's world, protecting data has become one of the most difficult tasks. Different type of emerging cyber threats such as malicious, network based and abuse of network have been identified in the IoT. These can be done by virus, Phishing, Spam and insider abuse. This paper focuses on emerging threats, various challenges and vulnerabilities which are faced by the cyber security in the field of IoT and its applications. It focuses on the methods, ethics, and trends that are reshaping the cyber security landscape. This paper also focuses on an attempt to classify various types of threats, by analyzing and characterizing the intruders and attacks facing towards the IoT devices and its services.

  • Korea has high quality level of ICT Technologies, however it still have a long way to go before invigoration of ICT in agriculture industry. The government of Korea supply to agriculture ICT systems, however these are the enclosed type and insufficient the level of connectivity, compatibility, and integrity between ICT systems. Farmers can not share crop information and one system can not use with others in combination. Recently, IoT(Internet of Things) become popular to emphasize the vision of a global internet and ICT industry. The IoT is a critical technology that leads future internet generation. We believe that IoT will change status of agriculture industry and appearance of various agriculture business model. Using IoT technology is provided a platform of opportunities to optimize work processes and efficient use of energy, time and labour in farm. It can automatically control temperature, humidity, sunshine system and so on for optimal growth conditions at greenhouse and plant factory. Growth setting can even be controlled and monitored crop condition and disease by a smartphone app or PC. It is possible to improve quality of farming and farm product. We suggest that construction of IoT platform through open API in agriculture industry.

Designing a Crime-Prevention System by Converging Big Data and IoT

  • Recently, converging Big Data and IoT(Internet of Things)has become mainstream, and public sector is no exception. In particular, this combinationis applicable to crime prevention in Korea. Crime prevention has evolved from CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) to ubiquitous crime prevention;however, such a physical engineering method has the limitation, for instance, unexpected exposureby CCTV installed on the street, and doesn't have the function that automatically alarms passengers who pass through a criminal zone.To overcome that, this paper offers a crime prevention method using Big Data from public organizations along with IoT. We expect this work will help construct an intelligent crime-prevention system to protect the weak in our society.

  • With the advancement of the Internet/IT technologies and the increased computation power, massive data can be collected, stored, and processed these days. The availability of large databases has brought forth a new era in which companies are hard pressed to find innovative ways to utilize immense amounts of data at their disposal. Indeed, data has opened a new age of business operations and management. There are already many cases of innovative businesses reaping success thanks to scientific decisions based on data analysis and mathematical algorithms. Big Data is a new paradigm in itself. In this article, Big Data is viewed as a new perspective rather than a new technology. This value centric definition of Big Data provides a new insight and opportunities. Moreover, the Business Analytics, which is the framework of creating tangible results in management, is introduced. Then the Internet of Things (IoT), another innovative concept of data collection and networking, is presented and how this new concept can be interpreted with Big Data in terms of the value centric perspective. The challenges and opportunities with these new concepts are also discussed.

특허 동시분류분석과 텍스트마이닝을 활용한 사물인터넷 기술융합 분석 (Analyzing Technological Convergence for IoT Business Using Patent Co-classification Analysis and Text-mining)

  • 최근 기술융합의 핵심현상으로 사물인터넷이 대두되면서 사물인터넷의 기술트렌드 및 기술융합에 관해 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 그러나 기존 연구들의 대부분이 사물인터넷 기술 동향에 대한 정성적 연구에 그치고 있어 기술융합의 구체적 양상을 파악하기 어려운 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 특허 데이터를 기술의 대용데이터로 간주하고, 동시 분류분석과 텍스트마이닝을 바탕으로 사물인터넷 융합 네트워크를 구축하고 융합의 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 문헌연구를 통해 사물인터넷의 융합을 일으키는 주요 기술군을 디바이스, 네트워크, 플랫폼, 서비스 네 가지로 정의한 후, "Internet of Things" 키워드를 중심으로 미국 특허청에서 수집된 923개 특허의 클래스를 네 가지 기술군에 할당하여 이들 간 관계를 파악하였다. 대부분의 클래스 및 키워드가 디바이스에 관련되어 있으므로, 본 연구에서는 융합 현상을 디바이스 융합과 전체 융합으로 나누어 기술융합 양상을 파악하였다. 디바이스 중심의 사물인터넷 기술을 분석한 결과 센서 디바이스를 비롯한 헬스케어 디바이스, 냉장 및 냉동 장치, 에너지관리 디바이스, 로봇, 임베디드 등이 주요 융합 그룹으로 도출되었다. 전체 기술을 대상으로 분석한 결과 사물인터넷 요소기술을 중심으로 스마트 헬스케어, 스마트 홈, 무인자동차 등 사물인터넷의 다양한 응용영역들이 기술융합을 이루고 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 본 연구 결과는 사물인터넷 기술융합 활성화를 위한 정책 및 전략 수립에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

사물인터넷 신뢰 연구와 시사점: EU FP7을 중심으로 (Researches on Trust in IoT and Implications: Focusing on EU Framework Programme 7 (FP7))

  • IoT (Internet of Things)는 기기, 사람, 이들의 데이터를 연결하여 새로운 비즈니스 기회를 제공할 것으로 예상된다. 그러나 신뢰가 결여된다면 IoT (Internet of Things)가 제안하는 가치는 달성될 수 없다. IoT는 끊임없는 연결을 추구한다는 측면에서 사람, 사물과 같은 연결 대상에 대한 신뢰가 전제되어야 한다. 그러나 현재까지 진행된 IoT 연구의 대부분은 플랫폼과 어플리케이션 개발에 집중되어 있어 신뢰할 수 있는 연결과 상호작용에 대한 논의는 상대적으로 부족하다. uTRUSTit, ABC4Trust, Inter-Trust, COMPOSE, SMARTIE와 같은 유럽의 FP7 ICT 연구 프로그램은 이러한 간극을 해소하고자 하는 연구들이다. 본고에서는 이들 프로젝트의 목적과 연구 방향을 소개하고 논의하였다. 각각의 연구가 취하고 있는 접근은 조금씩 상이하지만 이들 연구의 공통점은 신뢰할 수 있는 연결을 통해 프라이버시와 안전을 모두 담보하고자 하는 것이다. IoT의 기대를 충족시키기 위해서는 국내에서도 연결된 사물들에 대한 신뢰 연구가 필요한 시점임은 분명하다.
