Chinese Students' Satisfaction Level with the Korean Internet Shopping Mall Purchase Process and Their Repurchase Intention (한국 인터넷쇼핑몰 구매과정에서의 소비자만족도와 재구매의도: 한국 거주 중국 유학생 소비자 중심으로)

  • This study examined Chinese students' satisfaction level regarding their Korean Internet shopping mall experiences and the measured factors were pre-purchase, purchase, delivery, A/S and security, additionally, evaluate the level of repurchase intention on Chinese students living in South Korea. To accomplish these goals, an online questionnaire survey was conducted between October 1 and 10, 2011. A total of 365 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The analysis process involved many statistical methods such as frequency, correlation and regression. The results indicate the following finding: First, Chinese students normally visited and purchased from popular Internet shopping malls and the items that they purchased the most frequently were clothing and shoes, makeup, computer and electronics. Second, the Chinese students' satisfaction level regarding their Internet shopping mall experiences was not high. They were especially worried about security matters regarding their personal or financial information. Third, their satisfaction level with the delivery process has the largest influence on their repurchase intention. Also, their gender, the length of time they had lived in Korea, the length of time they spent on Korean Internet shopping mall websites, the amount of frequency of online shopping in Korea, and their satisfaction with their purchase, the delivery process, the A/S process and security affected their repurchase intention in different degrees. The conclusion provides valuable information for devising a strategic direction for improving the foreigners' satisfaction level regarding and repurchase intention on Korean Internet shopping malls.

A Study on the Determinants of Impulse Purchase of Clothing Products in the Internet Shopping Mall (인터넷 쇼핑몰에서의 의류의 충동 구매에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand impulse buying typology for apparel products in the internet shopping. Also, analysis of influences is conducted to ascertain if a influence exists between factors which are consumer's interior factor & exterior condition, marketing stimulus of internet shopping, and consumer's general behavior in internet shopping and impulse buying typology, after offer fundamental information for internet marketing. As a result of analyzing the relationship between consumers' interior factors and impulse buying, the author found out that consumers' pure impulse buying was much influenced by the timing to buy new clothing, willingness to risk trying new designs and preference for up-to-date designs, and enjoyment derived from the buying itself. As a result of analyzing the relationship between consumers' exterior conditions and impulse buying, the author learned that impulse buying was also influenced by shopping time length, shoppers' mood and sentiments, and budgeting. As a result of analyzing the relationship between marketing stimulus and impulse buying, the author found out that impulse buying was the most influenced by facilitative marketing stimuli. Lastly, as a result of analyzing the relationship between shopping behaviors & socio-demographical variables and impulse buying propensities in Internet shopping malls, the author learned that pure impulse buying, reminder & suggestion impulse buying, and planned impulse buying are influenced by the period and frequency of using Internet shopping malls for clothes, purchase amount, and the time length of the shopping.

Exploring customer delight experiences in online shopping malls (온라인 쇼핑몰에서의 고객 감동경험 고찰)

  • Though customer delight is becoming one of the most important marketing key words, research in a retail setting is limited. With the dramatic growth of online retail shopping, this study explored customer delight experiences in online shopping malls by identifying the delight elements and analyzing the elements by online purchase steps. A total of 124 delight experiences collected from an unstructured questionnaire were content-analyzed. Delight elements in online shopping were categorized into service, product, price, delivery, package, and shopping mall operation in that order. Service related elements including free gifts and letters, recovery efforts for service failure, kind employees, and easy return were most frequently observed. Delights were experienced at the product receiving point, the prior-to-purchase point, the order-to-delivery point, and the post-purchase point in that order. The results revealed that customer delights in online shopping were experienced in various purchase steps by various marketing elements. Based on the results the study provided research propositions exploring the effects of expectation vs surprise, monetary vs non-monetary/emotional benefits/rewards, and core marketing elements vs augmented services on delight experiences.

A Qualitative Research about the CRM Experiences of Apparel Brand Customers (의류브랜드 소비자의 고객관계관리 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 남성복, 여성복, 캐주얼, 스포츠의류 소비자의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study were 1) to analyze customer relationship management(CRM) based on the online customer experiences by product types (i.e., men's, women's, casual, sports wear), 2) to analyze CRM based on the off-line customer experiences by product type, and 3) to examine customer purchase behavior of fashion products and internet usage behavior by product types. Survey and 1:1 interview were conducted from January 13th to May 16th, 2005. Six consumers from each brand (i.e., 3 loyal customers and 3 general customers) in a total of 24 customers were selected from each product type. For the data analysis, content analysis and descriptive statistics (i.e. frequency) were used. Among the key study findings first, as a result of the on-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear preferred receiving customized information through e-mail or SMS service. The customers of sports wear preferred receiving a different level of information and participating in customized product service. Second, as a result of the off-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear need to be encouraged to join a membership at a sales encounter and the customers of women's wear preferred receiving quick information of new products and participating in a design development planning of the merchandising process. Third, the purchasing behavior of the customers of women's wear are influenced mostly by the salesperson and the store atmosphere when they purchase clothes and the customers of men's wear are price-sensitive. The results of this study can be used when fashion brands perform strategic planning and decision making on CRM.

Consumers’Purchasing Process of Fashion Products on the Internet: A Qualitative Approach (인터넷을 통한 패션상품 구매행동의 탐색적 연구)

  • Although interest in the potential and actual usage of the Internet as a transaction medium is increasing, the market for fashion merchandise on the Internet in Korea has yet to take off. As the Internet environment is expected to bring about a transformation of conventional consumer buying behavior, the purpose of this exploratory research is to investigate the buying behavior of fashion products on the Internet to identify relevant concepts and generate hypotheses for further empirical research. The research methods selected for the study were observation and in-depth interview. Twelve subjects who had purchased fashion products on the Internet were selected and interviewed. Those who could not participate in face-to-face in-depth interviews because of the geographic locations were interviewed on-line. The results are as follows: First, subjects went through the stages of shopping motivation stage, site choice behavior stage, in-site behavior stage, and postpurchase behavior stage. Second, a model was extracted for each shopping stage, and a final model was completed based on comparisons with the participants processes. The information content of each phase was discussed. Finally, each participant was classified using their purchasing process, revealing six possible mixed usage patterns of the Internet marketing system and the traditional marketing system.

  • This study investigated the differences in the effects of the perception of the internet fashion shopping mall characteristics on satisfaction and loyalty of internet fashion shopping mall between Korean and American college students. Questionnaires were administered to 251 Korean and 221 American college students. The results were as follows. First, service and product diversity had significant effects on satisfaction of internet fashion shopping mall in both group, while convenience had a significant impact on satisfaction of internet fashion shopping mall in American group. Second, service, product diversity, and promotion had significant influences on repurchase intention of internet fashion shopping mall in Korean consumer group, while service and reliability, product diversity, and convenience had significant effects on repurchase intention of internet fashion shopping mall in American consumer group. Third, service had a significant effect on recommendation intention in Korean group, while service and reliability and product diversity had significant influences on recommendation intention in American group.

  • This study focused on examining methods for the favorable relationship between internet shopping mall and customers from a point of view that it was necessary for internet fashion market getting faced with keen competition to change its marketing focus from securing new customers to customer retention strategies. Measurement instruments were selected to measure these variables and a questionnaire was made. Data was collected in 491 men and women in their twenties residing in Gwangju city using the questionnaire. The analysis results were summarized as follows: First, in the failure to purchase fashion products in internet shopping mall, as consumer's favorable internet shopping attributes, their possibility of complaining and repurchase intentions became higher, and had negative effect on regret and dissatisfaction. Second, attributions of the result of a failure to purchase fashion products in internet shopping mall were found to increase regret and dissatisfaction. Third, customers experiencing regret and dissatisfaction showed a very high possibility of complaining but their possibility of repurchase intentions had negative affect.

Scientific Approach to Fashion Websites Using Eye Trackers

  • This study analyze consumers' unconscious visual attention to color and images of internet shopping malls by using eye-tracking method. Twenty-nine participants, including 15 females and 14 males, participated. The average ages of the male and female participants were 27.3 years and 27.7 years, respectively. Ten images of five layouts (multi-composition images, single-model images, gender-composed images, videos, and moving banner images) of internet shopping malls were shown on an eye-tracker computer screen. Quantitative analyses of the eye-tracking responses were conducted. SPSS was used to analyze the descriptive characteristics and to conduct an independent-sample t-test, along with an ANOVA. The data analysis showed that the image area generally had the shortest time to first fixation (TFF), the longest duration of fixation (DOF), the highest number of fixations (NOF), and the highest numbers of revisits(NOR).Notably, visual attention towards female models was high among various images. The results can be used to improve credibility and design online shopping layout with a scientific evidence that helps consumers through their purchase decisions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze whether perceived utilitarian value and service qualify have an effect on repurchase intention of fashion merchandise in internet shopping. A survey was conducted from June 20 to July 30 in 2003, among married women aged in their 20s and 30s, on their purchase experience of fashion merchandise from internet shopping malls. The survey was conducted over the internet with 306 subjects. The statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. 1. A married women aged in their 20s and 30s were shown to high-purchasing on nightgown, underwear, women's pants, casual wear through internet shopping. Their perceived utilitarian value had an effect on repurchase intention of fashion merchandise in internet shopping. 2. The service quality factors were determined to be site reliability, site reactivity, order assurance, order easy, site organization. Service quality factors of site reactivity, order assurance, order easy, site organization had an effect on repurchase intention of fashion merchandise in internet shopping.

The Effect of Net Generation′s Fashion Value on the Purchase-Decision Important Factors at Internet Shopping Mall and the Preference for Fashion Design (N세대의 패션가치관이 인터넷쇼핑몰 구매결정 중요도와 패션디자인 선호도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to characterize the effect of Net fashion value regarding to the factors of purchase-decision at internet shopping mall and the preference for fashion design. The subjects for this sample survey, were junior high school and university students who had dwelled at pusan and ulsan in south korea. This study had 824 samples of each aged from 13 to 24 who had purchasing ability of fashion apparels at the interned shopping mal1. The sampling data in this survey was analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, T-test, LSD-test, MANOVA and ANOVA of SPSS WIN package. The results of this study was as follows; 1. It was proved that advertising, pursuit of services and products, pursuit of information were considered first from Net generations fashion value. Next things were perception of danger and pursuit of convenience. It was proved that they considered it important A/S, recall, exchange and post management. 2. It was proved that there was difference at the preference for fashion design of according to Net generations fashion value. Color was considered to be the most important one. 3. Men had higher political value than women and 1318 teenagers had higher fashion value than semi-adult. Under high school educational course Net generation had more theoretical value than above university educational course Net generation did. Also, with the factor of average monthly income, political value was considered to be the most important. People whose monthly expenditure on purchase was above 50,000 won had higher social value than people whose expenditure was under 50,000 won but under 50,000 won had higher political value than above 50,000 won did.
