  • Purpose: The purpose of the study is to develop and to evaluate a internet-based social support program for the mothers of congenitally abnormal children. The theoretical basis of the study is the moderating effect model of social support theory (Cobb, 1976). Methods: In first phase, an internet support program was developed according to the practical web development stages proposed by Boling and Frick (2002). In the second phase, the internet support program was provided and evaluated to 18 mothers who reared congenitally abnormal children from March to May 2008. Results: In the first stage, demands of the program were collected from interviews of eighteen mothers of congenitally abnormal children of ages one to three. At the same time, literature review and validity of the contents were also examined. In the second stage, the correspondence of the program contents to the social support needed was also examined. In the third and fourth stages, prototype of the social program was prepared in documents and that of computer program was prepared. In the final stage, an internet-based web site was constructed. The social support provided by the web site were composed of informational support, emotional support and appraisal support including bulletin board system and chatting service. After program development, pre-tests and post-test were performed to investigate the effect of the program on maternal confidence and mood. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test. The analysis showed that maternal confidence of post-test was improved than that of pre-test with statistically meaningful figure (Z=-2.54, p<.05). The positive mood of post-test was also improved than that of pre-test and the result was statistically supported (Z=-2.20, p<.05). Conclusion: It is suggestive that the internet based social support programs is accessible and appropriate service to congenitally abnormal children's mother. It is necessary to develop and use the internet based social support programs in public health system.

  • Recently, the importance of user experience (UX) has been rapidly increasing. Its utilization is emphasized for development of systems, products, and services. User experience is widely used across industries including services, products, processes, society, and culture. Therefore, if it is unsatisfactory, it is likely to have a direct negative impact on the corresponding system, product, or service. The failure to analyze user experience causes significant damage to the project, which may lead to its failure or redevelopment; it is hence necessary to prioritize the verification of UX in the earliest stages of development. The requirements development stage, which is a preceding stage, is an appropriate stage for the verification of user experience because the identification of user needs is completed and prototypes can be implemented. In this paper, we proposed a systematic requirements development stage; it adds user experience verification activities to the requirements development stage, using the Honeycomb model, which is a widely used tool for verifying the overall UX. User experience verification was added to the existing requirements development activities, which consisted of three steps: model definition and requirements placement, discussions between external and internal stakeholders, and review by internal stakeholders. By easily validating the user experience through this systematic requirements development stage, we expect to minimize the damage to the project due to the failure of the user experience analysis and increase the possibility of success.

  • There has been a rapid growth in the development of mobile application resulting from its wide usage for online transaction, data storage and exchange of information. However, an important issue that has been overlooked is the lack of emphasis on the security issues at the early stage of the development. In fact, security issues have been kept until the later stage of the implementation of mobile apps. Requirements engineers frequently ignore and incorrectly elicit security related requirements at the early stage of mobile application development. This scenario has led to the failure of developing secure and safe mobile application based on the needs of the users. As such, this paper intends to provide further understanding of the real challenges in extracting security attributes for mobile application faced by novice requirements engineers. For this purpose, two experiments on eliciting security attributes requirements of textual requirements scenario were conducted. The performance related to the correctness and time taken to elicit the security attributes were measured and recorded. It was found that the process of eliciting correct security attributes for mobile application requires effort, knowledge and skills. The findings indicate that an automated tool for correct elicitation security attributes requirement could help to overcome the challenges in eliciting security attributes requirements, especially among novice requirements engineers.

  • Recently, the range of using Internet in business is expanding rapidly. And through Internet, companies are strengthening both their internal efficiency and their external competitive advantage in the market. In recent years, building and managing companies' web sites are becoming unavoidable tasks in business. Such a trend is becoming more imperative in business over the world. There is a great deal of research in progress to study the cases of companies with increasing performance from the use of their Internet web sites. But it is considered that there has not been enough of study in the area of levels of Internet application in business especially in strategic areas and application levels among countries. This research is in the same line of the research that was carried out on such topics in 1999. study in 1999 showed that there are significant differences in the usage levels of Internet in business between countries with long history of using Internet and those who are not. The 1999 study also suggested the model on development stages of Internet usage in business. This study is the continuation of the 1999 research and used two years of data to compare and analyze the trend of the Internet development stages in leading corporations in Korea, U.S.A., and Japan. This study found that there have been significant developments in the ability to use Internet in business in three countries. The differences in Internet usage level in each stage among different countries are compared and analyzed in this study.

  • The Purpose of this study is to Identify and analyze the factors that determine the survival or success of internet-based companies in the start-up phase. The reason why we focus on companies which are in the early stage of development is because internet business is still at its early stage, and statistics indicate that many internet businesses have failed during the start-up phase. Using the model of new product outcomes proposed by Cooper(1979), we have formulated a conceptual model for more successful internet business ventures. On the basis of this model, the relationship between the financial and non-financial performance and various variables in the model is analyzed. For collecting empirical data, a web-based survey questionnaire was designed. A total of 97 usable questionnaires were gathered from internet companies nationwide. The results showed that controllable variables such as the commercial entity and information acquired during the new business process are related to the non-financial performance, while environment variables such as the compatibility of the resource base of the firm with the business, including a few controllable variables, are related to the financial performance. Future research needs to explore more precisely how the success factors are different according to the types of internet businesses and/or the stages of growth of the business.

  • Parametric min-cuts is an object proposal algorithm, which can be used for accurate image segmentation. In parametric min-cuts, foreground seeds generation plays an important role since the number and quality of foreground seeds have great effect on its efficiency and accuracy. To improve the performance of parametric min-cuts, this paper proposes a new framework for foreground seeds generation. First, to increase the odds of finding objects, saliency detection at multiple scales is used to generate a large set of diverse candidate seeds. Second, to further select good-quality seeds, a two-stage cascaded ranking classifier is used to filter and rank the candidates based on their appearance features. Experimental results show that parametric min-cuts using our seeding strategy can obtain a relative small pool of proposals with high accuracy.
