Widespread use of wireless networks has drawn attention to ascertain confidential communication and proper authentication of an entity before granting access to services over insecure channels. Recently, Truong et al. proposed a modified dynamic ID-based authentication scheme which they claimed to resist smart-card-theft attack. Nevertheless, we find that their scheme is prone to smart-card-theft attack contrary to the author's claim. Besides, anyone can impersonate the user as well as service provider server and can breach the confidentiality of communication by merely eavesdropping the login request and server's reply message from the network. We also notice that the scheme does not impart user anonymity and forward secrecy. Therefore, we present another authentication scheme keeping apart the threats encountered in the design of Truong et al.'s scheme. We also prove the security of the proposed scheme with the help of widespread BAN (Burrows, Abadi and Needham) Logic.
The Diffle-Hellman Key Exchange scheme can produce a common session key between the two communicators, but its problem is that it makes a man-in-the middle attack possible. To solve problems like these, several protocols have been put forward, and the Simple Authenticated Key Agreement (SAKA) Protocol is among them. This protocol has been suggested by Seo-Sweeney, Tseng, and Ku-Wang, respectively, In this paper, we will put forward a new protocol that has been improved from all the original protocols mentioned above, but is still safe and quick to use, While the existing protocol divides the common session key production stage and the verification stage, the protocol suggested in this paper takes care of both of those stages simultaneously, therefore improving the processing performance.

Establishment of trust is important in wireless sensor networks for security enhancement and successful collaboration. Basically, a node establishes trust with other nodes by estimating a trust value based on monitored behavior of the other nodes. Since a malicious/misbehaving node might launch different attack strategies and might demonstrate random misbehavior, a trust estimation method should be robust against such attacks and misbehavior. Otherwise, the operation of trust establishment will be meaningless, and performance of an application that runs on top of trust establishment will degrade. In this paper, we propose a robust and novel trust estimation method. Unlike traditional trust estimation methods, we consider not only the weight of misbehavior but also the frequency of misbehavior. The frequency-of-misbehavior component explicitly demonstrates how frequently a node misbehaves during a certain observed time period, and it tracks the behavior of nodes more efficiently, which is a main factor in deriving an accurate trust value. In addition, the weight of misbehavior is comprehensively measured to mitigate the effect of an on-off attack. Frequency and weight of misbehavior are comprehensively combined to obtain the trust value. Evaluation results show that the proposed method outperforms other trust estimation methods under different attacks and types of misbehavior.

Black and gray hole attack is one kind of routing disturbing attacks and can bring great damage to the network. As a result, an efficient algorithm to detect black and gray attack is important. This paper demonstrate an adaptive approach to detecting black and gray hole attacks in ad hoc network based on a cross layer design. In network layer, we proposed a path-based method to overhear the next hop's action. This scheme does not send out extra control packets and saves the system resources of the detecting node. In MAC layer, a collision rate reporting system is established to estimate dynamic detecting threshold so as to lower the false positive rate under high network overload. We choose DSR protocol to test our algorithm and ns-2 as our simulation tool. Our experiment result verifies our theory: the average detection rate is above 90% and the false positive rate is below 10%. Moreover, the adaptive threshold strategy contributes to decrease the false positive rate.
Although a variety of preparation methods for DoS attacks and DDoS attacks are presented, it is still being exploited, the vulnerability with networks and protocols. In particular, When was built environment that can be used anywhere in the Internet, Internet of Things is entering era. Thus, the conventional computer, as well as household appliances, etc. DoS attack targets or are likely to do the attacker role is increasing. In this paper, we first find out about the type and characteristics of DoS attacks. Open source operating system, Linux has iptables that packet filtering tool and firewall programs. Using iptables to set the policy ruleset against DoS attacks.

In recent years, image encryption algorithms have been developed rapidly in order to ensure the security of image transmission. With the assistance of our previous work, this paper proposes a novel chaotic image encryption algorithm based on self-adaptive model and feedback mechanism to enhance the security and improve the efficiency. Different from other existing methods where the permutation is performed by the self-adaptive model, the initial values of iteration are generated in a novel way to make the distribution of initial values more uniform. Unlike the other schemes which is on the strength of the feedback mechanism in the stage of diffusion, the piecewise linear chaotic map is first introduced to produce the intermediate values for the sake of resisting the differential attack. The security and efficiency analysis has been performed. We measure our scheme through comprehensive simulations, considering key sensitivity, key space, encryption speed, and resistance to common attacks, especially differential attack.

Most of existing privacy-preserving multi-authorities attribute-based encryption schemes (PP-MA-ABE) only considers the privacy of the user identity (ID). However, in many occasions information leakage is caused by the disclosing of his/her some sensitive attributes. In this paper, we propose a collusion-resisting ciphertext-policy PP-MA-ABE (CRPP-MACP-ABE) scheme with hiding both user's ID and attributes in the cloud storage system. We present a method to depict anonymous users and introduce a managerial role denoted by IDM for the management of user's anonymous identity certificate ($AID_{Cred}$). The scheme uses $AID_{Cred}$ to realize privacy-preserving of the user, namely, by verifying which attribute authorities (AAs) obtain the blinded public attribute keys, pseudonyms involved in the $AID_{Cred}$ and then distributes corresponding private keys for the user. We use different pseudonyms of the user to resist the collusion attack launched by viciousAAs. In addition, we utilize IDM to cooperate with multiple authorities in producing consistent private key for the user to avoid the collusion attack launched by vicious users. The proposed CRPP-MACP-ABE scheme is proved secure. Some computation and communication costs in our scheme are finished in preparation phase (i.e. user registration). Compared with the existing schemes, our scheme is more efficient.

Security administrators of companies and organizations need to come up with proper countermeasures against cyber-attacks considering infrastructures and security policies in their possession. In order to develop and verify such countermeasures, the administrators should be able to reenact both cyber-attacks and defenses. Simulations can be useful for the reenactment by overcoming its limitations including high risk and cost. If the administrators are able to design various scenarios of cyber-attacks and to develop simulation models from their viewpoints, they can simulate desired situations and observe the results more easily. It is challenging to simulate cyber-security issues, because there is lack of theoretical basis for modeling a wide range of the security field as well as pre-defined basic components used to model cyber-attacks. In this paper, we propose a modeling method for cyber-security simulations by developing a basic component and a composite model, called Abstracted Cyber-Security Unit Model (ACSUM) and Abstracted Cyber-security SIMulation model (ACSIM), respectively. The proposed models are based on DEVS(Discrete Event systems Specification) formalism, a modeling theory for discrete event simulations. We develop attack scenarios by sequencing attack behaviors using ACSUMs and then model ACSIMs by combining and abstracting the ACSUMs from a security perspective. The concepts of ACSUM and ACSIM enable the security administrators to simulate numerous cyber-security issues from their viewpoints. As a case study, we model a worm scenario using ACSUM and simulate three types of simulation models based on ACSIM from a different security perspective.

This paper proposes "A Black Hole Detection Protocol Design based on a Mutual Authentication Scheme on VANET." It consists of the Mutual Authentication Scheme (MAS) that processes a Mutual Authentication by transferring messages among a Gateway Node, a Sensor Node, and a User Node and the Black Hole Detection Protocol (BHDP) which detects a Non-Authentication Node by using the Session Key computed in the MAS and a Black Hole by using the Broadcasting Table. Therefore, the MAS can reduce the operation count of hash functions more than the existing scheme and protect a privacy from an eavesdropping attack and an information exposure by hashing a nonce and user's ID and password. In addition, the MAS prevents a replay attack by using the randomly generated nonce and the time stamp. The BHDP improves Packet Delivery ratio and Throughput more than the AODV with Black hole by 4.79% and 38.28Kbps. Also, it improves Packet Delivery ratio and Throughput more than the IDSAODV by 1.53% and 10.45Kbps. Hence it makes VANET more safe and reliable.

Cognitive radio (CR) is regarded as an effective approach to avoid the inefficient use of spectrum. However, CRNs have more special security problems compared with the traditional wireless communication systems due to its open and dynamic characteristics. Primary user emulation attack (PUEA) is a common method which can hinder secondary users (SUs) from accessing the spectrum by transmitting signals who has the similar characteristics of the primary users' (PUs) signals, and then the SUs' quality of service (QoS) cannot be guaranteed. To handle this issue, we first design a multiple-phase energy detection scheme based on the cooperation of multiple SUs to detect the PUEA more precisely. Second, a joint SUs scheduling and power allocation scheme is proposed to maximize the weighted effective capacity of multiple SUs with a constraint of the average interference to the PU. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the effective capacity of the secondary users compared with the traditional overlay scheme which cannot be aware of the existence of PUEA. Also the good delay QoS guarantee for the secondary users is provided.
