Gaze Recognition Interface Development for Smart Wheelchair (지능형 휠체어를 위한 시선 인식 인터페이스 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose a gaze recognition interface for smart wheelchair. The gaze recognition interface is a user interface which recognize the commands using the gaze recognition and avoid the detected obstacles by sensing the distance through range sensors on the way to driving. Smart wheelchair is composed of gaze recognition and tracking module, user interface module, obstacle detector, motor control module, and range sensor module. The interface in this paper uses a camera with built-in infra red filter and 2 LED light sources to see what direction the pupils turn to and can send command codes to control the system, thus it doesn't need any correction process per each person. The results of the experiment showed that the proposed interface can control the system exactly by recognizing user's gaze direction.

Development of an Integrated Packet Voice/Data Terminal (패킷 음성/데이터 집적 단말기의 개발)

  • In this study, a packet voice/data terminal(PVDT) that services both voice and data in the packet-switched network is implemented. The software structure of the PVDT is designed according to the OSI 7 layer architecture. The discrimination of voice and data is made in the link layer. Voice packets have priority over data packets in order to minimize the transmission delay, and are serviced by a simple protocol so that the overhead arising form the retransmission of packets may be minimized. The hardware structure of the PVDT is divided into five modules; a master control module, a speech proessing module, a speech activity detection module, a telephone interface module, and an input/output interface module. In addition to the hardware implementation, the optimal reconstruction delay of voice packets to reduce the influence of delay variance is analyzed.

  • This paper describes a 64 channel signal generator/analyzer module that is useful for verification and testing of digital circuits. It can perform logic analyzer function and signal generator function at the same time. The 64 Channel module is implemented with single FPGA chip for miniaturization, and an USB interface is used to increase portability of the module. Multiple modules can be used in parallel for the verification of large scale circuits. Moreover, since the module is implemented as a PC based system, one can configure convenient GUI(Graphic User Interface) environment.

  • A wire communication module for PLC controller was developed. This system consists of RF module interface part, RS232 serial communication control part, LED display part and control S/W with GUI interface. RF communication frequency is controlled by PLL controlling and communication rate is also controlled as 1200 and 4800 bps. Communication and control status are displayed on LED. As a S/W part, graphic user interface on Window 95 O.S. was developed. To show the validity of the developed system, severial communication and control of PLC system were experemented.

  • This paper presents a dialogue interface using the dialogue management system as a method for controlling home appliances in Home Network Services. In order to realize this type of dialogue interface, we annotated 96,000 utterance pair sized dialogue set and developed an example-based dialogue system. This paper introduces the automatic error correction module for the SMS-styled sentence. With this module we increase the accuracy of NLU(Natural Language Understanding) module. Our NLU module shows an accuracy of 86.2%, which is an improvement of 5.25% over than the baseline. The task completeness of the proposed SMS dialogue interface was 82%.

  • Bluetooth wireless technology is a publicly available specification proposed for Radio Frequency (RF) communication for short-range and point-to-multipoint voice and data transfer. It operates in the 2.4GHz ISM(Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band and offers the potential for low-cost, broadband wireless access for various mobile and portable devices at range of about 10 meters. In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of the bluetooth baseband module we have developed. This module has a UART interface for HCI and a audio codec for voice. The interface between controller and this module supports common control interface. An FPGA implementation of this module is tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

  • In the ACE2000 MPLS system, MPLS Interface Module(MIM) is composed of an ATM Interface Module and a HFMA performing a packet forwarding. In the MIM, the HFMA RSAR receive cells from the Physical layer and reassemble the cells. And the IP Lookup controller perform a packet forwarding after packet classification. Forwarded packet is segmented into cells in the HFMA TSAR and transfer to the ALMA for the transmission to an ATM cell switch. When the MIM make use of an ATM Interface Module, it directly connect the ALMA with a PHY layer using the UTOPIA Level2 interface. Then, an ALMA performs Master Mode. Also, the HFMA TSAR performs the Master Mode in the MIM. Therefore, the UTOPIA-L2 Controller of the Slave Mode require for interfacing between an ALMA and a HFHA TSAR. In this paper, we implement the architecture and cell control mechanism for the UTOPIA-L2 Controller supporting Multi-ports.

  • Bluetooth technology is a publicly available specification proposed for Radio Frequency (RF) communication for short-range :1nd point-to-multipoint voice and data transfer. It operates in the 2.4㎓ ISM(Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band and offers the potential for low-cost, broadband wireless access for various mobile and portable devices at range of about 10 meters. In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of the bluetooth baseband module with direct memory access method we have developed. This module consists of three blocks; link controller, UART interface, and audio CODEC. This module has a bus interface for data communication between this module and main processor and a RF interface for the transmission of bit-stream between this module and RF module. The bus interface includes DMA interface. Compared with the link controller with FIFOs, The module with DMA has a wide difference in size of module and speed of data processing. The small size module supplies lorr cost and various applications. In addition, this supports a firmware upgrade capability through UART. An FPGA and an ASIC implementation of this module, designed as soft If, are tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

Characterization of the Soldering Interface in Power Modules by Peel Strength Measurement (벗김강도 측정법에 의한 파워 모듈의 솔더접합 특성 평가)

  • The strength and characteristics of the soldering interface of the power semiconductor chip in a power module has been firstly surveyed by the peel strength measurement method. A power module is combined with several power chips which generally has 30∼400$\textrm{mm}^2$ chip area to allow several tens or bigger amps in current rating, so that the traditional methods for interface characterization like shear test could not be applied to high power module. In this study power diode modules were fabricated by using lead-tin solder with 10${\times}$10$\textrm{mm}^2$ or 7${\times}$7$\textrm{mm}^2$ soldering interface. The peel strengths of soldered interfaces were measured and then the microscopic investigation on the fractured surfaces were followed. The peel test indicated that the crack propagated either through the bulk of the soft lead-tin solder which has 55-60 kgf/cm peel strength or along the interface between the solder and the plated nickel layer which has much lower 22 kgf/cm strength. This study showed that the peel test would be a useful method to quantify the solderability as well as to recognize which is the worst interface or the softest material in a power module with a large soldering area.

Design and Implementation of Virtual Aquarium

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of virtual aquarium by generating 3D models of fishes that are colored by viewers in an aim to create interaction among viewers and aquarium. The virtual aquarium system is composed of multiple texture extraction modules, a single interface module and a single display module. The texture extraction module recognize the QR code on the canvas to get information of the predefined mapping table and then extract the texture data for the corresponding 3D model. The scanned image is segmented and warp transformed onto the texture image by using the mapping information. The extracted texture is transferred to the interface module to save on the server computer and the interface module sends the fish code and texture information to the display module. The display module generates a fish on the virtual aquarium by using predefined 3D model with the transmitted texture. The fishes on the virtual aquarium have three different swimming methods: self-swimming, autonomous swimming, and leader-following swimming. The three different swimming methods are discussed in this paper. The future study will be the implementation of virtual aquarium based on storytelling to further increase interactions with the viewer.
