The Study of Visual Immersion of Interactive Type of VR Action Contents (VR체감형 액션콘텐츠의 시각적 몰입감)

  • In recent years, the VR-interactive action contents industry, which utilizes five senses of human bodies, has continued to grow through areas such as games, tourism, movies, performances and exhibitions, but it has reached to breaking point by unrealistic visual elements. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of each evaluation factor based on visual immersion of interactive type of VR action contents to overcome the limitations. For this study, firstly, prior research is reviewed. Secondly, the evaluation factors of visual immersion of interactive type of VR action contents and hypothesis are to be derived. Research finding is that there is no difference to recognize proximity, three-dimensionality, visibility and immersion by gender. Also, in order to influence visual immersion, it is important that 3D modeling of characters and objects must be sophisticated to be fit in with their surroundings and lighting. This makes user to be confused where they are actually in.

Developing Interactive Simulator for Predicting Volcanic Ash (실시간 대화형 화산재 확산 예측 시스템 개발)

  • According to the analysis of volcanic observation data around Korean peninsula, the activities of volcano increase continuously. For example, the volcanic eruption of Mt. Sakurajima is an example, and Mt. Baekdu can be another example potentially. In these regards, developing unified system including realtime prediction and 3D visualization of volcano ash are important to prepare the volcanic disaster systematically. In this technical report, an interactive simulator embedding dispersion algorithm and 3D visualization engine is developed. This system can contribute to the realtime prediction of volcanic disaster scientifically.

  • The multimedia visualizational spreadsheet environment is shown to be extremely effective in supporting the organized visualization of multi-dimensional data sets. In this paper, we designed the visualization model that consists of the configurational 2D arrangement of spreadsheet elements at run time and each spreadsheet element has a novel framestack. As the feature, it supports 3D data structure of each element on the proposed model. It enables the visualization spreadsheet 1) to effectively manage, organize, and compactly encapsulate multi-dimensional data sets, 2) to reconfigure cell-structures dynamically according to client request, and 3) to rapidly process interactive user interface. Using several experiments with scientific users, the model has been demonstrated to be a highly interactive visual browsing tool for 2D and 3D graphics and rendering in each frame.

  • As display devices evolve, computer-based work environments are also becoming better suited to actual application tasks. This paper discusses the development of an architectural design system using the virtual table, which is a table-type projection system. It consists of the interactive VR modeler, the hybrid tracker and the architectural interpreter. The interactive VR modeler offers visual and tactile guide such as grid interaction, a tangible transparent prop and reference objects, so that a user can design architectural 3D models more easily and intuitively on the virtual table. The hybrid tracker includes two types of tracking methods for viewpoint according to the user's view and hand interaction: namely, vision-based tracking and magnetic tracking. The architectural interpreter automatically transforms simple 3D masses into a basic construction form that has architectural knowledge. The proposed system has advantage in the sense that it is suitable for collaboration among several users, allowing them to view graphical objects in stereoscopic view with direct 3D manipulation. Thus, it can be effectively used for architectural simulation and user-participated design.

Glasses-free Interactive 3D Display: The Effects of Viewing Distance, Orientation and Manual Interaction on Visual Fatigue (무안경식 Interactive 3D Display: 시청거리, 시청방위, 협응동작이 시각피로에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we investigated visual fatigue in i3D system and basic factors that contribute to visual fatigue in the system. i3D is a type of glasses-free display which supports elementary manual interaction of users with the display. In Experiment 1, we performed open-ended survey of visual fatigue and collected responses from observers which then were used as survey questions for visual fatigue. The questions were validated by factor analysis from which we derived fatigue measurement scale. In Experiment 2, we measured visual fatigue in various conditions using survey questions obtained from Experiment 1. Using manual interaction (present/absent), viewing distance(1/2/4m), and viewing orientation($0/28/56^{\circ}$) as three factors in within-subject design, we measured visual fatigue in each condition. The results indicated that visual fatigue deceases with farther viewing distance, but viewing orientation and manual interaction does not influence visual fatigue. Although fatigue unexpectedly decreased in an extreme viewing condition (e.g., distance 1m, orientation $56^{\circ}$), the results were obtained because of technical limitation of glasses-free 3D display. General discussion provides discussion on limits of the current study and suggestions for future research.

  • In this study, the bending analysis of composite laminates using the classical laminated theory is investigated. A piece-wise linear incremental approach is employed to describe the nonlinear mechanical behavior of the composite laminates, and a 2D strain-based interactive failure theory is employed to predict the ultimate flexural loads. The 3-point bending tests are performed for cross-ply and quasi-isotropic laminates. The analysis results with the failure theory are verified by comparing the analysis findings to the experimental outcome.

  • The purpose of this study is to develope'a digital space design process using user's motion data' through a theoretical and experimental study. In the progress of developing a developing of design process, this study was concentrated on searching a digital method applying user's interactive reflections. As introducing a concept of space form being generated by user's experiences, we proposed'a digital design process using user's motion data'. In the experimental stage, user's motion data were extracted and transferred as digital information by user behavior analysis, optical motion capture system, immersive VR system, 3D softwares com computer programming. As the result of this study, another useful digital design process was embodied by building up a digital form-transforming method using 3D softwares providing internal algorithm. This study would be meaningful in terms of attempting a creative and interactive digital space design method, avoiding dehumanization of existing ones through the theoretical study and the experimental approach.

  • 최근, 다수의 3D 콘텐츠가 개발되고 있으며 이러한 3D 콘텐츠는 스테레오 카메라를 이용하여 촬영되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 3D 콘텐츠는 제작자의 개인적인 경험에 바탕을 두고 제작되고 있어, 일괄적인 기준이 모호한 상황이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 제공된 정보로부터 정확한 3D 정보들을 계산해주는 3D 계산기를 제안한다. 제안된 3D 계산기는 제작자의 선택을 돕고자, 주어진 정보로부터 정확한 기기의 위치, 받침대의 위치, 시차, 카메라와 렌즈의 떨어진 거리등을 계산해준다. 따라서, 제안된 3D 계산기는 촬영 대상 물체가 실제 영화관이나 3D Display 상에서 어떻게 보여지는지를 미리 계산하여 보여줌으로써, 3D 콘텐츠를 제작함에 있어 제작시간을 줄이고 제작자의 의도를 정확하게 반영할 수 있도록 도와준다. 제안된 3D 계산기는 windows OS, iOS, 그리고 android OS 등 다수의 OS에서 사용 가능하도록 다수의 OS상에서 포팅이 되어 있다.

Real-Time Interactive Image 3D Effect Technology (2D 영상의 실시간 인터랙티브 3D효과 구현 기술)

  • 본 논문에서는 종래의 2차원 영상의 3차원 효과 부여 기술인 TIP(Tour Into the Picture)의 결과물이 실시간 인터랙티브 콘텐츠를 생성하지 못하는 결점을 보완하고자 종래의 TIP 모델링 요소를 실시간 리모델링 할 수 있도록 모델링 요소를 변수화 하였다. 따라서, 사용자가 원근정보 및 영상 속 객체의 자유로운 이동을 수행하여 3차원 효과를 생성할 수 있으며, 기존의 그림과는 다른 새로운 영상을 만들 수도 있다. 실시간 인터랙션 기능이 추가된 결과물로서 PTIP를 제안하고 있으며, 제안하는 방법을 사용하면 실시간 인터랙티브 한 3차원 효과 컨텐츠를 제작할 순 있는 장점이 있다.
