  • It is necessary to consider the site amplification for estimating SSI (soil structure interaction) and seismic source with more confidence. The horizontal to vertical (H/V) ratio technique in spectral domain is one of several techniques to estimate empirical site transfer function. The technique, originally proposed by Nakamura (1989), is applied to analyze the surface waves in the microtremor records. However, the application of this technique has been widened to the shear wave energy of strong motions for estimating site amplification. The purpose of this paper is to estimate spectral ratio using observed data at the seismic stations distributed within Southern Korean Peninsula from the Fukuoka earthquake including 11 aftershocks. The results show that each station has the its own characteristics of the specific resonance, high-band, and low-band frequency. The characteristics of the resonance frequency is more important because the quality of the seismic records are dependent on the resonance frequency. The result can be used for the study of site classification and removal of the site amplification effects from observed records can give us more reliable seismic source parameters.

  • A new approach for measuring the specific fracture energy of concrete denoted modified disk-shaped compact tension (MDCT) test is presented. The procedure is based on previous ideas regarding the use of compact tension specimens for studying the fracture behavior of concrete but implies significant modifications of the specimen morphology in order to avoid premature failures (such as the breakage of concrete around the pulling load holes). The manufacturing and test performance is improved and simplified, enhancing the reliability of the material characterization. MDCT specimens are particularly suitable when fracture properties of already casted concrete structures are required. To evaluate the applicability of the MDCT test to estimate the size-independent specific fracture energy of concrete ($G_F$),the interaction between the fracture process zone of concrete andthe boundary of theMDCTspecimens at the end of the test is properly analyzed. Further, the experimental results of $G_F$ obtained by MDCT tests for normal- and high-strength self-compacting concrete mixes are compared with those obtained using the well-established three-point bending test. The procedure proposed furnishes promising results, and the $G_F$ values obtained are reliable enough for the specimen size range studied in this work.

  • It is a recent trend to emphasize community services for the rehabilitation of the mentally ill. However, it is also necessary to provide social work services for those living in the institutions, who is the most underprivileged in our society. To deal with interpersonal skill deficits which is one of the main characteristics of the mentally ill, social skills programs are being utilized, usually in the communities, but not in the institutions. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop and evaluate institution-relevant program for the improvement of assertiveness, which is the basic ability among the interpersonal skills, and self-esteem, which is the emotional basis of assertiveness. Because there has been little literature on such a program, a preliminary program had been implemented in order to include the peculiarities of the life in the institutions on the main program. The evaluation of the program effect was done by pretest-post test control group design, and its results are as follows. Firstly, in regard to program effectiveness, the pre and post test showed that self-esteem improved in a statistically meaningful way, but that assertiveness did not so. However, the staff verified the improvement of the group members' assertiveness to some degree in their actual lives. Secondly, in regard to the group process, the group interaction improved in a statistically meaningful way between 2nd and 5th session, and the improvement maintained till the program termination. Also the group members evaluated the program as helpful in their everyday lives. Therefore it can be said that the result of this program is encouraging. In light of this, several suggestions were made: utilizing more dynamic techniques in the program; developing the advanced level of the program; making an effort to change environmental structures as well as individuals; applying this kind of program to another living facilities such as those for the homeless or handicapped.

  • Contemporary fashion design has been made a new attempt to extend restricted expressions through fusion with other genres in art. The recognition of fashion has recently been changed not only product but as a piece of work in specific value, concept and meaning created by fashion designer. It is observed that the contemporary fashion design has a notion to persue formative intentions and manners of Conceptual Art in Post-modern era. This study is to define this region of fashion design represented in cultural phenomena as 'Conceptual Fashion', also analyze the formative feature of this from a point of view in Conceptual art. The results which are analyzed according to outward techniques and forms, meanings and elements immanent in aesthetic contemplation of conceptual fashion lead to four distinctive things in such as anti-form, intervention and appropriation, metaphor and detour, process and series. The intrinsic values in conceptual fashion through aesthetic contemplation are indicated the four significant values in the following: the pluralistic interpretation, the parody and amusement, the pursuit of essence and truth and the participation and interaction. Conceptual fashion design is appeared complex not doing separate through classified formative features previously. And It has been evolved as a indeterminate concept which is able to variable elucidation by a non-player, as a instrument for communication on fashion culture which is aggrandized. The purpose of this study is to present of theoretical foundation about Conceptual fashion design and also to make proper understanding about interrelationship between contemporary fashion and art.

  • Aortic strips were prepared from rabbits, and the tensions were maintained by administration of norepinephrine into the incubation chamber. The application of diol or triol induced relaxation of the aortic strip, as indicated by the decreased aortic tension. Triol, in a concentration of $30\;mg\%\;causes\;approximately\;50\%$ of muscle relaxation, whereas a similar degree of relaxation is induced by $50\;mg\%$ of diol. This indicates that both triol and diol cause relaxation of the aorta, but that triol is about $170\%$ more potent than diol. It is well established that blood-vessel smooth-muscle tone is regulated by the available intracellular $Ca^{++}$ concentration, which in turn is profoundly influenced by interaction of the cellular membrane and sarcoplasmic reticulum in the smooth muscle. Thus, any agent which modifies the smooth-muscle tone is expected to interfere with the $Ca^{++}$ binding or uptake of sarcolemma and sarcoplasmic reticulum. In the following experiments sarcoplasmic reticulum and sarcolemma were prepared from the ventricle of rabbit heart, and the active $Ca^{++}$ uptake by these cellular components was measured employing $Ca^{45}$ in the presence of triol and diol. It was found that the active $Ca^{++}$ uptake in the presence of ATP by sarcoplasmic reticulum was inhibited by both triol and diol. Panaxatriol, in a concentration of $80\;mg\;\%,$ inhibited $Ca^{++}$ uptake by $30\%,$ whereas panaxatriol in the same concentration inhibited uptake by $20\%.$ It is clear that triol is a more potent inhibitor of active $Ca^{++}$ transport in sarcoplasmic reticulum than diol. The $Ca^{++}$ binding of the cellular membrane was also studied employing Ca45 and milipore techniques. It was found that triol in a concentration of $80\;mg\;\%,$ decreased $Ca^{++}$ binding by $29\%.$ Diol in the same concentration decreased the binding by $17\%.$ It is clear that both triol and diol inhibit $Ca^{++}$ binding to the cellular membrane, but triol is approximately $180\%$ more potent than diol.

  • The specialized and diversified synthetic and compounding technologies are used to meet the requirements for the advanced high performance tire tread materials with better balance of fuel economy(rolling resistance), safety(wet traction) and wear resistance. These techniques involve the methodology for the improvement of chemical and physical interaction between filler and the rubber matrix using coupling agents as well as a variety of chemically-modified solution SBRs. The research trends about the high performance functional SBRs and coupling agents which can interact with the surface of fillers and their working mechanism were investigated in the conventional carbon black-filled rubber and silica-filled SBR systems developed recently as "green tire".

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of cervical alignment, pain, and physique to apply proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation(PNF) techniques in patients with forward head posture (FHP). The subjects of this study were 24 patients diagnosed with FHP. They were randomly divided into two groups: a PNF group(n=12) and a control group(n=12). The intervention was performed a total of 24 times, 30 min a day, six times a week for four weeks. Data on cervical alignment(forward head displacement, FHD), pain(visual analog scale, VAS), and physique(height, weight, and body mass index) were obtained pre- and post-intervention. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare the groups and time. For FHD, the VAS, and physique(height and BMI), there was an interaction effect for the groups and time(p<.001, BMI: p<.05) and main effects for time(p<.001, BMI: p<.05). For weight, there were main effects of time(p<.01). For FHD(p<.01) and the VAS(p<.05), there were main effects for the groups. In the PNF group, there were significant improvements in FHD, VAS, and physique. In the control group, there was a significant increase in FHD. The results of this study indicated that PNF intervention using scapular and upper extremity patterns effective in FHP positively. The use of a therapeutic intervention on physique changes may also be effective in improving poor posture and help to better patients' quality of life.

  • A series $[C_3Omim]$[X] of imidazolium cation-based ILs, with ether functional group on the alkyl side-chain have been synthesized and structure of the materials were confirmed by various techniques like $^1H$, $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy, MS-ESI, FTIR spectroscopy and EA. More specifically, the influence of changing the anion with same cation is carried out. The absorption capacity of $CO_2$ for ILs were evaluated at 30 and $50^{\circ}C$ at ambient pressure (0-1.6 bar). Ether functionalized ILs shows significantly high absorption capacity for $CO_2$. In general, the $CO_2$ absorption capacity of ILs increased with a rise in pressure and decreased when temperature was raised. The obtained results showed that absorption capacity reached about 0.9 mol $CO_2$ per mol of IL at $30^{\circ}C$. The most probable mechanism of interaction of $CO_2$ with ILs were investigated using FTIR spectroscopy, $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy and result shows that the absorption of $CO_2$ in ether functionalized ILs is a chemical process. The $CO_2$ absorption results and detailed study indicates the predominance of 1:1 mechanism, where the $CO_2$ reacts with one IL to form a carbamic acid. The $CO_2$ absorption capacity of ILs for different anions follows the trend: $BF_4$ < DCA < $PF_6$ < TfO < $Tf_2N$. Moreover, the as-synthesized ILs is selective, thermally stable, long life operational and can be recycled at a temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ or under vacuum and can be used repeatedly.

  • The structures of 1,n-alkanedithiol (n = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on a Au(111) substrate were investigated by electrochemical measurements and theoretical calculations. The results of the experimental techniques indicated that the dithiols, except n = 2, showed an upright molecular structure in the SAMs, in which alkanedithiols were bound to the Au surface via only one thiol functionality and the other one faced up to the air. The results also suggested that the formed dithiol SAMs were densely packed and highly oriented. Except ethanedithiol, which was thought to form a bilayer, the reductive desorption peak potentials of 1,n-alkanedithiol (n = 4, 6, 8, 10) SAMs were more negative than those of the corresponding monothiol ones in 0.1 M KOH solutions. This illustrates that the dithiol SAMs had higher stability than the corresponding monothiol ones. The major part of the high stability may be attributed to the van der Waals interaction among the sulfur atoms on top of the dithiol SAMs. The molecular modeling calculation showed that the structures of dithiol SAMs were similar to those of the corresponding monothiol SAMs and that all the dithiol SAMs, except ethanedithiol, were more stable than the corresponding monothiol SAMs. The calculated energy differences between dithiol and monothiol SAMs decreased with the increment of alkyl-chain length.

  • Supported catalysts are at the heart of manufacturing essential chemical, agricultural and pharmaceutical products. While the longevity of such systems is critically hinged on the durability of metal nanoparticles, the conventional deposition/dispersion techniques are difficult to enhance the stability of the metal nanoparticles due to the lack of control over the interaction between metal-support. Regarding this matter, ex-solution has begun to be recognized as one of the most promising methodologies to develop thermally and chemically robust nanoparticles. By dissolving desired catalysts as a cation form into a parent oxide, fine and uniformly distributed metal nano-catalysts can be subsequently grown in situ under reductive heat treatment, which is referred to ex-solution. Over the several years, ex-solved analog has resulted in tremendous progress in the chemical-electrochemical applications due to the exceptional robustness coupled with ease synthesis. Herein, we describe the ex-solution process in detail which therein introducing the unique characteristics of ex-solved particles that distinguish them from conventionally dispersed nanoparticles. We then go through the history of science regarding the ex-solution phenomena and summarize several major research achievements which embrace the ex-solved nanoparticles to markedly promote the catalytic performances. In conclusion, we address the remaining challenges and the future perspectives of this rapidly growing field.
