During bolted flange assembly, the contact stiffness of some areas of the joint surface may be low due to the elastic interaction. In order to improve the contact stiffness at the lowest position of bolted flange, the correlation model between the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established in this paper. According to the stress distribution model of a single bolt, an assumption of uniform local contact stiffness of bolted flange is made. Moreover, the joint surface is divided into the compressive stress region and the elastic interaction region. Based on the fractal contact theory, the relationship model of contact stiffness and contact force of the joint surface is proposed. Considering the elastic interaction coefficient method, the correlation model of the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established. This model can be employed to reverse determine the tightening strategy of the bolt group according to working conditions. As a result, this provides a new idea for the digital design of tightening strategy of bolt group for contact stiffness of bolted flange. The tightening strategy of the bolted flange is optimized by using the correlation model of initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange. After optimization, the average contact stiffness of the joint surface increased by 5%, and the minimum contact stiffness increased by 6%.
Here we consider the evaluation of the the dynamic component of the second order force due to wave diffraction by a circular cylinder analytically and numerically. The cylinder is fixed, vertical, surface piercing in water of finite uniform depth. The formulation of the wave-structure interaction is based on the assumption of a homogeneous, ideal, incompressible, and inviscid fluid. The nonlinearity in the wave-structure interaction problem arises from the free surface boundary conditions, namely, dynamic and kinematic free surface boundary conditions. We expand the velocity potential and free surface elevation functions in terms of a small parameter and then consider the second order diffraction problem. After deriving the pressure using Bernoulli's equation, we obtain the analytical expression for the dynamic component of the second order force on the cylinder by integrating the pressure over the wetted surface. The computation of the dynamic force component requires only the first order velocity potential. Numerical results for the dynamic force component are presented.
This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the interaction between buried pipes and surface load using the finite element method of analysis. A series of laboratory model tests were also performed in order to validate the adopted finite element model and to capture essential features of the physical behavior of buried pipes subjected to surface load. In the parametric study, a wide range of boundary conditions were analyzed with emphasis on the response of the buried pipes to surface load. The results of analysis such as contact stress distribution at the soil/pipe interface and axial thrust of the pipe were thoroughly analyzed, and a database on the response of buried pipe under surface load was established for future development of a semi-empirical design/analysis method. The results indicated that the degree of interaction between buried pipes and surface load significantly varies with the vertical and lateral location of pipe with respect to surface load, and that the current design method, which does not consider soil-structure interaction, cannot correctly capture the pipe response to surface loading. Furthermore, based on the results of analysis, a semi-empirical equation was suggested, which estimates the maximum pipe thrust due to surface load for flexible buried pipes.
The interactive display is providing various interaction modes to users through various ubiquitous computing technologies. These methods were studied for their interactions, but the limits that it is provided to only single user and the device usability were generated. In this paper, we propose a new type of spatial multi interaction interface that provide the various spatial touch interactive to multi users in the ambient display environment. Therefore, we generate the interaction surface so that a user can interact through the IR-LEDs Array Bar installed in the ceiling of the ambient display environment. At this time, a user can experience the various interactions through the spatial touch in an interaction surface. Consequently, this system offers the interactive display and interface method that the users can interact through natural hand movement without the portable devices.

In this study, nonlinear wave interaction in the presence of a uniform current is studied using numerical model, named CADMAS-SURF which is based on the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with Volume of Fluid for tracking free surface deformation. The original CADMAS-SURF developed for interaction of wave with structure is modified/extended to simulate nonlinear fluid dynamic motions within wave-current coexisting field. The capability of Numerical Wave-Current Tank (NWCT) in this study is validated by comparing with available existing laboratory experiments for both wave-following and wave-opposing current. The numerical results for interaction between wave and current are shown to be in good agreement with experimental data. Then, this study focused on the dynamic motions of the water velocity, surface elevation and vorticity within combined wave-current field in demonstrating complex nonlinear physical phenomena due to interaction between wave and current. In addition, NWCT is applied to simulate a more complex wave-current-structure field for wave propagating over a submerged breakwater associated with current. Detailed discussion including characteristics of velocity and vorticity fields and the relation between free surface and vorticity are given.

The influence of boundary condition of the bodies with gas flows is one of the most important problems in high-altitude aerodynamics. In this paper presents the results of the calculation of aerodynamic characteristics of aerospace vehicle using Monte-Carlo method based on three different gas-surface interaction models - Maxwell model, Cercignani-Lampis-Lord (CLL) model and Lennard-Jones (LJ) potential. These models are very sensitive for force and moment coefficients of aerospace vehicle in the hypersonic free molecular flow. The models, method and results can be used for new generation aerospace vehicle design.
The influences of chloride-free components of the cement additive: triethanolamine, triisopropanolamine, sodium hyposulfite and calcium gluconate on the 1d, 3d and 28d compressive strength of cement were investigated by response surface methodology. It found the early strength activators, triethanolamine and sodium hyposulfite could enhance the 1d strength of cement effectively but they did not contribute to the 3d strength enhancement, and further their interaction was able to decrease the 28d strength of cement. Calcium gluconate was not that effective for the strength enhancement on 3 and 28 days when it's simply dosed. However the interaction effect of calcium gluconate with triisopropanolamine could strongly favor the strength enhancement of cement after 3 days. Results indicated it was necessary to focus attention on the potential interactions among the chemical components. And for the concern of four chemicals studied in this paper, it was feasible to formulated a kind of chloride-free cement additive that can be effective for the early strength of cement and its the strength after 3 days.

A dynamic interaction analysis of an adjacent surface fecundation on a layered half-space is performed in the frequency domain. A semi-analytical approach is employed to reduce the integration range of the wavenumber in the surface fundamental solution for a layered half-space in boundary element (BE) formulations. The present study then adopts a combined boundary and finite element method to analyze the dynamic behavior of a system of flexible surface foundations on an elastic homogeneous and layered half-space. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the developed method. The examples show the feasibility of an extended application fur the complicated dynamic interaction of foundations on layered media.
This paper describes an implementation of virtual teeth modeling for a haptic dental simulation. The system allows dental students to practice dental procedures with realistic tactual feelings. The system requires fast and stable haptic rendering and volume modeling techniques working on the virtual tooth. In our implementation, a volumetric implicit surface is used for intuitive shape modification without topological constraints and haptic rendering. The volumetric implicit surface is generated from input geometric model by using a closest point transformation algorithm. And for visual rendering, we apply an adaptive polygonization method to convert volumetric teeth model to geometric model. We improve our previous system using new octree design to save memory requirement while increase the performance and visual quality.
Laser Raman spectroscopy has been used to study the interaction of $MoO_3$ with $TiO_2$. The bulk molybdenum oxide appeared to spread on the surface of titania under the submonolayer coverage. The surface polymolybdate was observed to be very stable with respect to the repeated treatment of reduction and subsequent calcination. Owing to the interaction of molybdate and titania, the phase transformation of $TiO_2$ seemed to be strongly retarded. The additives such as Co and Ni reacted readily with $MoO_3$ to form the corresponding molybdate salts. Nevertheless, the polymolybdate species appeared to be more stable on the titania surface than the molybdate salts.
